About Yubico Authenticator

Yubico Authenticator allows you to use a YubiKey NEO to store OATH credentials (TOTP and HOTP supported, as used by Google, Microsoft, Dropbox, Amazon and many more) used for 2-factor authentication.

Storing the credentials on a YubiKey NEO ensures that your credentials are safe, even if your phone is compromised.
It also makes it easy to move between multiple Android devices.

What are users saying about Yubico Authenticator

by C####:

Been having a problem for a while where when tapping my key the tone plays but no codes are displayed. I have to kill this app and launch again to make it display codes again.

S70%
by S####:

For some reason it won't work unless I force close the app and reopen it. Phone will make the NFC sound, but the display never changes.

N70%
by N####:

Perfect. Makes TOTP as convenient as possible. I use this with most services, as few support U2F yet. Love Yubico Neo (NFC for my phone) and Yubikey 4 Nano (4096 bit RSA keys, keep plugged into laptop)! <3

F70%
by F####:

I dunno if it's the latest update or what, but this works flawlessly now. (used to take a few tries and up to a few minutes to get my key to register)

N70%
by N####:

Does not work with me Nexus 6P. The Yubikey NEO and this app do nothing on my Nexus 6P. I have NFC enabled yet nothing happens when I put the key up to the back of my phone, like any other NFC device.

P70%
by P####:

Great app, would be nice if you could organize the layout of your linked 2FA accounts instead of having it in alphabetical order. Would like to arrange them to have the ones I use most at the top. UI update would be nice also.

N70%
by N####:

Works. Invaluable tool, but annoying to have to close and reopen the app between each use (when the first "code set" has expired after 30 seconds).

F70%
by F####:

Often requires to kill an app to work again. Sometimes it doesn't read the key until device reboot.

X70%
by X####:

They don't care about changelog in Google Play store so I can only give 3/5.

N70%
by N####:

Works well! Put the authentication math magic seeds onto two keys months ago. Used them to authenticate a login today successfully, because phone was wiped and lost the authentication seed.

S70%
by S####:

Took me a while to figure out how to position the neo for nfc detection to work, and still have ocassional hiccups with reading, but happy with it so far.

N70%
by N####:

Horribly unreliable. Originally I thought it was my Nexus 5. Then got a 5x same thing. Then I thought it was my yubikey neo, got another one. No, this app just sucks. Strange as the clip ap works fine. This one gives me communication errors more often then codes.

N70%
by N####:

Drives me a little crazy. For some reason, it loses primary association with the NFC regularly (i.e., the web browser pops up uselessly to the yubico web page when you try to use the yubikey). To get it to stop doing that, I have to uninstall this app and reinstall and it seems to reassert it self. Super annoying.

N70%
by N####:

Hardly ever detects the Yubikey Neo, takes multiple attempts on my Galaxy S6 which makes 2FA frustrating. There is a great idea here delivered with a poor app.

N70%
by N####:

App has always been difficult to use. It only detects the nfc Yubikey token (neo) about 1/3 of the time (I use it on 3 phones. All have the same problem.). Today it stopped generating codes completely on all three phones. It generated the tone when I got it to recognize the yubikey but it did not display any authentication key on any phone. Clearing cache and app data did not help. So I tried to re-setup the google authentication on google web site. The app crashed after reading the QR code. Every time. I tried multiple times on each phone. The app is now worthless. I don't know if there is another use for the Yubikey token or not. Installed authy. While not tied to the Yubikey it at least works.

N70%
by N####:

an intesting idea. instead of the app generating the codes like other authenticator apps, this uses the yubico neo to "generate" the codes so that there's a supposed less chance of someone getting the codes. probably not for most people. I think most people will like just using a normal authenticator app instead of this extra layer of security. but it seems to work fine at the moment

N70%
by N####:

Unfortunately the app does not yet support U2F via NFC, which means that you still need to have the Google Authenticator app installed as well to use it.

J70%
by J####:

Does what it's supposed to. Better than Google authenticator because you can easily switch phones. Internal qr reader and better ui would be cool.

N70%
by N####:

The only thing missing is a built in or external barcode scanner plugin

N70%
by N####:

Used for years. Dependable. Works.

X70%
by X####:

Even move secure than the app offered by Google. Thanks for listening to our feedback. There's still one issue. The app doesn't reload, so when the timer stops you have to exit the app and reopen it again

X70%
by X####:

The only thing missing is a built in or external barcode scanner

Z70%
by Z####:

How about a UI refresh? This app looks horrible and should be updated to the material design standards. Bugs: After I tap my NEO on the back of the phone and my passwords are displayed, if I rotate the screen, the app refreshes and the passwords disappear. Also, you should point out that this requires zxing Barcode scanner to add tags. While the app works, it's cumbersome to use.

X70%
by X####:

The list of OTP code does not refresh so you have to exit and restart the app. Does not like landscape mode either, if you rotate the phone the list resets and it won't scan QR codes whilst rotated. These are basics that you should have resolved before you released your app which makes me worried about how secure the app/key are if basics like this go unnoticed during testing.

X70%
by X####:

The Nexus 6P NFC antenna is along the top of the device in the black bar. Smaller sweet spot than I am use to, but works. Unfortunately the developer email address is unmonitored.

X70%
by X####:

Intermittent communication errors when saving credentials but it eventually works after several retries.

X70%
by X####:

Amazing and useful. Timers could be fixed.

Y70%
by Y####:

Great except bar code reader crashes the app. I'm using a Moto X.

X70%
by X####:

Really need to fix this so that rotation doesn't clear the codes. Would make it much easier to read the codes without having to remove key from pocket. I do also wish it could read from a bit further away. The ability to use nexus imprint as a backup might be nice. Imprint plus a password as an option would be even better! Great start with a fairly utilitarian UI that would be nicer if prettier but meh its not like I spend much time looking at it. Gets the job done and gets out of the way. Nexus 6p.

X70%
by X####:

Takes a few tries, throws a lot of java.lang.NullPointerException: Attempt to invoke interface method 'void nordpol.IsoCard.connect()' on a null object reference exceptions which results in force closes. When it does work though it's pretty good.

U70%
by U####:

While my Note 3 can read the YubiKey NEO just fine, I'm unable to save/write to it. I just keep getting a communication error when trying to save a new credential. As such, Im forced to use somebody else's device to write to it and then I can read from it on my device. This makes it somewhat cumbersome and unusable for me. __ EDIT__ Now, for the most part, this app is just giving a communication error. It's only reading the NEO intermittently. However, I've no issue reading/writing any other NFC tags.

X70%
by X####:

Not bad, gets the job done. A material design UI refresh would be good together with a nexus imprint support. Also when the screen is rotated it loses the OTP codes which I think is a bug

X70%
by X####:

Great gadget for learning about encryption. NFC is kludge and implementation support is mininal.

I70%
by I####:

Ever since the update to 1.03, I receive the error in yubikey communication. I cannot remove or add new two-factor authenticator. Now will have to use another app.

R70%
by R####:

Haven't had any problems in the several months I have been using it. Completely replaced Google Authenticator with no issues.

X70%
by X####:

Nice alternative to migrate from Authy. Would be good with a UI refresh. A better indicator of code timeout than the thin line which at first glance doesn't mean anything to a user

X70%
by X####:

Latest update 17.11 broke it for me. When I try to scan the yubikey, it only returns "error in yubikey communication" . Stock Samsung galaxy s6, Android 5.1.1

X70%
by X####:

Actually works wonderfully on the S5 now. Thank you!

X70%
by X####:

Support for a second Yubikey would be very useful (copy credentials to a backup key). However a very good and useful app!

X70%
by X####:

App doesn't work on my oneplusone. Update - didn't have barcode scanner installed
