YNAB—Budget, Personal Finance for Android
This is a great product and a game changer if you're looking to manage your finances more efficiently than ever before. You can get a free trial of the service but will then need to purchase a yearly membership. It's worth every cent!
I have been using Ynab for a long time. It offers a well structured and user friendly experience to managing expenses and budgets. I would like to have the possibility to snap a photo when attaching memo to a transaction. Also, bank import is not available yet in Europe. I hope that with new open banking regulations of EU, this will be enabled for Europe users as well
It took me a few months to really "get" how YNAB would work with my finances, but once I did, it was a game-changer. Thankfully they know this, and they provide a generous free trial period. Plenty of community help and documentation to be found.
This is a great mobile app that is a perfect accompaniment to fantastic software, and even better budgeting philosophy. If you aren't using YNAB, you may as well be setting your money on fire. This mobile app syncs seamlessly with the web version of the application, and with other persons using the same budget. I've tried other budgeting tools. This one leaves them all in the dust.
I'm still on the trial period but I've already developed an addiction to budgeting through this app! Such an awesome way to go about putting your money in specific places. The learning curve can be off-putting but trust in the process and you'll be happy. I've found that it works better when inputting transactions manually and not importing for those having issues with double posting (also you have a better idea of where your money moves). I'd like a widget for this app. I like to see things at a glance. Although a bit pricy, I can totally see myself paying for the subscription.
I'd rate this app much higher if it did 2 things differently: 1)made it possible to enter splits and 2)didn't force you to enter the amount before you can enter the payee. The value of this app, to me, is the CONVENIENCE of entering transactions at the point of purchase. Both of these issues detract from that significantly and make this app much less worthwhile.
This app works best as the daily quick-view version of the desktop version. If you found this app directly in the play store, I highly recommend checking out their website for a better understanding of the entire philosophy behind YNAB. It's brilliantly thought-out, flexible and life-impacting. Thanks for saving me from bankruptcy, YNAB.
I just need something where I can put the cost of my monthly bills all in one place so I can do my own budgeting. I don't want to hook this up to my bank account cuz that's sketchy, and I don't want a surprise fee from this app in 34 days. If the app is free, it's free. If you're going to charge for use after 34 days, IT'S NOT FREE. ???? AND WHY THE HELL WOULD I NEED TO LOG ON ON A COMPUTER TO DELETE MY ACCOUNT?!! That's just stupid! If I'm downloading an app, I WANT AN APP!
This app is wonderful for tracking on the go. I just wish I could add and subtract amounts from the budgeted numbers from the app without having to do the math. In its current state, it's hard to roll with the punches without a fully functional calculator.
I really wish that I could justify the cost of this app. I love being able to both use a website and my phone. Although the app does allow one to pull their transaction info from their bank, this feature is not available for me due to outside circumstances unrelated to YNAB. So, I simply cannot find it in me to pay $83.99 a year for an app where I will be typing in every single transaction myself. Sorry guys, but there really needs to be different tier levels for those of us who will not be connecting to our individual financial institutions.
App is good. But a bit confusing in some aspects. I did some adjustments and now it says I'm $2000 over budget? Basically saying that I don't have any money in the accounts, but I do? Can't figure out what went wrong. I've used better apps for finances in the past. Not worth nearly $100 a year in my opinion.
Great mobile companion app for the YNAB web app. You can do pretty much everything you can from a desktop browser. The one thing this app lacks, and the reason I docked a star, is security. A passcode or imprint login would be ideal.
I love YNAB for desktop, but this app doesn't get it done. It wouldn't be bad, except that it's never up to date and constantly causes me to double enter transactions as a result. I can't rely on it for accurate balance information.
You could really make transaction entering more intelligent. If there is any logic by which the app guesses the payee and account I want, I can't understand it. You should either suggest the most recently used payee, or even suggest a payee based on location and time of previous transactions. Also, if transactions are added in quick succession, keep the date the same, don't revert to the current date. It make retrospective adding of transactions a real pain. Thanks
Great until it couldn't support my bank. Could be my bank's fault, who knows. Just don't track your savings too, it seems to think you have more total money than you do, ie your spending money & savings are just combined. Gets confusing, since you don't want to spend your savings, obviously.
YNAB is by far the best budgeting system I've used, and there is a whole arsenal of subreddits, youtube videos, and reading material related to it, as well as a dedicated community of beginners and advanced users. This app is perfect for on-the-go use, and I think it's crucial to use the browser version in conjunction for more hands-on use. Also, syncs between the two happen almost instantly, so it's very helpful bouncing back and forth. I never look at my bank account app for my available balance anymore, and no more transferring funds back and forth between checking and savings - this is the only money app I check before spending!
The app is great and has helped tremendously with sticking to a budget. My only complaint is that it frequently takes 2-3 days to see purchases appear in the app so they can be categorized. If the purchases would appear within 24 hours then it would get 5 stars from me.
I don't usually write reviews BUT this time I have to - I am seriously in love with YNAB! I've been struggling with money management all my life, living from paycheck to paycheck, always had debts, depressions, living in anxiety continuosly. I tried all the budgeting apps on the market, haven't been able to keep on track. YNAB is a life changer. Been using it for half a year now, it's implemented in my life already and can't imagine living without it anymore. Thank you people from YNAB for saving my life, seriously.
Has great potential to be 5 ☆. I think my 2 biggest complaints it there's no way to do a forecasted budget without putting yourself in the red so have to do this else where. Also would love to be able to add photos to savings goals for that visual encouragement.
Better on ios than Android. Input new transaction always auto fill mostly used transactions field, very troublesome when you have more than 1 budget accounts. Must carefully check where the transaction went.
I sorta had given up on every being able to stick to a budget but this app makes it so easy I sticking with my budget. I love YNAB got a lot of reasons so I won't go into all the details but I will say this. I have tried many different budget apps before this one and not one them was as easy to use as this one.
Works great but I'd add 3 things: 1) Same "Cover this overspending with this category" prompt as on the web app since 2) I find the current way of editing the category allocations a bit cumbersome. 3) Reconsiling the accounts.
YNAB is the best. I've used it for years, who needs Cleo, who needs Monzo, Starling or anything else when you can just manage it yourself here. I highly recommend YNAB. it's epic stuff. I couldn't live without it, I honestly don't know how people do.
I like the app because it shows me the total of what I have to my name. What I don't like about it is the app doesn't update when I log in. I want to assume it follows my transactions and I understand it gets booted but once I clear that, I want the auto update.
There was a minor problem with currency display formats. Now fixed, so I am changing this review. *Support replied to me and helped*. This is a very good sign :-) I'll update again when I have time to check all the features.
Initially I didn't like the YNAB app. I didn't think it complemented the online website well and was frustrating to use but the company continues to improve it and it has been more practical to use when I am on the go. I still wish it had the complete functionality of the website. However it is still really great to use and helps me stay on track.
Thank you for fixing a bug where the app crashes on selecting a category! I suggest a more thorough testing and QA process to prevent bugs from going to production again.
The app works quite well! Of course, manual importing is a bit of a hassle (especially if your bank uses dated csv document types which might need adjusting before import every time) but that's on European banks; it's not the YNAB team's fault that they refuse to cooperate to enable direct connect. Beside that, the functionality of both this app and the full suite are easy to use and very neatly organized. Using this app and following a few simple rules will allow you to wrest control of your budget in record time. The (very low) subscription fee pays for itself faster than you can say 'why did I spend 50$ on avocados last month'
Pain in the butt to use! Every time I try to use it I end up clicking around on stufd goping that I can get it to do what I want for aboit 20 minutes, with no success. Yes, I paid my February house payment on January 31. Let me count it as being part of February! Accounts won't sync for days. Nice idea but I'll just stick to pen and paper.
I've tried really hard to like this app but it's just not user friendly. Managing payees was incredible frustrating. I am done with it.
I love it now that it is fully functional. I don't have to get on the computer to access everything and the kinks have been worked out. Works beautifully with my Note 8 dual screen function and I can always count on it working for me!
I guess I'm an idiot because everyone else loves this app but I find it to be completely useless. What's the point of entering bills when it doesn't let you add when the bill is due and it just automatically puts your budget in the red as past due? I don't see how a budget app that doesn't let you put due dates on the bills is helpful to anyone, and if you in fact CAN do so, they've made it so non obvious that I can't figure out how. Also see nothing about assigning dollars jobs and no explanation of what that is or how to do it. They keep recommending I take some course to learn how to use this app, which is also irritating...if your app requires a freaking class to understand how to use, your app is too complicated!
There's a bit of a learning curve if you've not used a budgeting app before. It would be great however to be able to scan the barcode of a receipt/bill and my transaction goes into the budget. Also to track purchases via Apple Pay or Android Pay.
I really expected it to be a little more intuitive. I installed the app, clicked on the "to be budgeted" button, and it wouldn't allow me to add the amount to be budgeted. Then I did some googling, and was still stumped, then uninstalled it.
I love it! It's a lot more work to CREATE a budget than on the website, but managing every day expenses is super easy with the app. One thing I would love though is some added security to the app itself. For instance the option to use a PIN or fingerprint to open the app!
YNAB makes it super easy to budget as obsessively as I want, while feeling in total control of where each dollar will be going. Awesome app that comes out of a true and practical Philosophy of Budgeting.
The app is fine, but I decided I want to cancel. They make it very difficult to do that. Because of this, it deserves a 1 star!
My husband and I recently started using YNAB. I prefer the website for budgeting, but this app works great for budgeting on the go! I'm looking forward to more report support in the app, but I can enter transactions immediately after I make them and move money if needed. I definitely recommend it!
Excellent app. But please make payee search case-insensitive. It's hard to search for abbreviations.

With the new YNAB, I always seem to have trouble when I reconcile. I'd like to request the ability to show running balance. As well as making it more like the classic. Old post. Love the new update! It was a game changer that I'm returning to YNAB. Thank you for the option to allocate thr budget on the phone! You guys really do listen to your users.
