About Wiki Pal™ (voice browser)

.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS APP WAS INITIALLY RELEASED IN MAY 2012 AS PROOF-OF-CONCEPT TO PROVIDE A GLIMPSE INTO YIZRI'S VISION OF NAVIGATING THE WEB AND ANY WEBSITE HANDS-FREE & EYES-FREE, BACKED BY 3 PATENTS (USPTO 8423365, 8918323, 9196251). SINCE THEN, GOOGLE APPEARS TO HAVE CHANGED ITS SPEECH RECOGNITION SERVICE IN A WAY THAT INTERFERES WITH THE ORIGINAL IMPLEMENTATION. WE ARE WORKING ON A NEW DESIGN & MUCH MORE. UNTIL THEN, PLEASE CONSIDER THIS APP EXPERIMENTAL. THANK YOU.

.
Utilizing the latest state of the art text-to-speech and speech recognition technologies, VoiceSee™ Wiki Pal is the world's first hands-free *and* eyes-free Wikipedia web browser for your Android mobile phone or tablet.
.
Turn downtime to fun time by listening to VoiceSee™ Wiki Pal in your walk, exercise, commute, or any other activity that requires your visual attention.

Stuck in traffic and you still need to check a piece of information before that meeting in the big city?

Or... trying to read in the outdoors on a beautiful sunny day?

Use your voice to tell Wikipedia which Wikipedia entry to search for. Speak to navigate through the overview, key highlights and entry section via voice only – no need to use your eyes (!) because Sadie (the voice of VoiceSee) will be reading you, the entry's content. All you have to do is listen.

Enjoy the "Dick Tracy" access to Wikipedia - ANYWHERE, ANYTIME. This is unlike anything you have seen before: Siri doesn't read you websites. VoiceSee does! Screen readers don't listen. VoiceSee does!

As an added bonus, you can say: “Search via Google” and you will hear Wiki Pal prompting you for the search term. You can visit any website using Wiki Pal.

Tips:

There are also usage FAQs at:
+ http://www.yizri.com/how-it-works/wiki-pal-faq/

1. When prompted to speak, always wait one or two seconds after the low tone double-beep.
2. Sometimes, you may need to repeat the answer in order to be heard.
3. To interrupt Sadie in the middle of a paragraph, touch the Search button.
4. To interrupt Sadie at the end of paragraphs, talk as soon as you hear the double-beep: "stop!" or "pause!"
5. To continue from the next paragraph, say: "continue!".
6. To disable scrolling & link opening via touch, say: "Disable Touch!". To re-enable, say: "Enable Touch!"
7. To make Sadie speak faster (or slower) say: "Speak faster!" (or "Speak more slowly!").
8. To reset to default speech rate say: "Speak normal!"
9. To accurately spell a search term or phrase, enter SPELL mode by saying: "Let me spell it for you!" (or just "Let me spell!"). Then, spell each letter only after Sadie has acknowledged the recognition of the previous letter.
10. To exit SPELL mode, say: "finish spelling", "end spelling" or "spelling complete".
11. To skip 1-9 paragraphs when reading the overview or a section, just say the number (e.g. "one!", "three!", etc.)
12. Shake your phone to wake up listening if stuck (acknowledged by Sadie saying "Ouch!"13. If you're unsure what to say, just say: “Help!”

To use a headset with PAUSE/PLAY, NEXT & PREV buttons, press:
1. PAUSE/PLAY (middle) to pause. Press it again to continue.
2. NEXT (bottom) to immediately skip to the next item in the list.
3. PREV (top) to immediately go back to the previous item in the list.
*Pressing headset buttons while NOT reading an item or an article may produce erratic results. Use this feature only when Sadie reads an item from a list.

This app has great potential, people want to Google while driving / getting dirty. This app is trying to meet that need. It took me to Google easily, and I was impressed, but it then let me down, lacking in the ability to enter text into Google's search box. Instead, it gets caught in a loop, telling you there's a text box, but never giving the option to use it. Uninstalled because of that, but if it improves I'll try again. It was good.

Did not like this app at all! Just like others said it would not shut up! And I tried the headset! It kept repeating "you" and would not pause! Sorry for the negative feedback and I hope you can fix it. Good luck!

Voice command are not working at all.. When it asks me to say YES and I do it says it back and also says it is not a command.. When it suggests to say help and I do it says "HELP" isn't a command or a shortcut in this mode.. So it doesn't accept anything.. So I can browse wikipedia manually but the voice functionality is only there to annoy me at the moment because it doesn't accept anything... I am sure it is a very good app as others say but it is completely useless on my Samsung Galaxy S2... Thanks

Just won't shut up! I don't need or want to hear starting to read. Too much info is not always a good thing. It does not go to a place on the page without a fight. Mostly just does not cooperate. Thanks for the effort.

This is the best web reader I have found so far. The Google search results works very well allowing you to actually go through the results and read a webpage There should be an option to trim down some of the voice prompts to speed up the way the program works once you are familiar with it, but as far as helping you get into the program and get familiar with it they work well. I spent some time to get good with this program because I do a lot of driving and I like to have Google search results read to me and then have the page read to me so it works. This is the best app I have found yet for actually having the web read to me.

Great potential, however there are a few issues in my experience: a) I would prefer it if Sadie would slow down and talk less frantically, b) three seconds would be nice, c) Google search is "not yet available", d) in menu for reviewing commands the app would not obey any commands so I had to terminate manually.

When I first downloaded and tried this app it did not work. I received an error message telling me there was a problem with my text to speech. I emailed the developer and he quickly responded letting me know that he would work on it and come up with a quick fix and then a permanent one in the future. True to his word he did that the next day and this app is awesome. The developer is very professional and courteous and the potential this app has is great. I was looking for something like this thank you.
