Army posts provide Soldiers with all of the perks of civilian life. You'll find post offices, movie theaters, hospitals and medical clinics, recreation centers, schools, parks, museums, shopping centers and more. As you'll discover, the Army takes great pride in making sure Soldiers and their families are happy and comfortable.
In this tour, we’ll show you three aspects of Army Life: Housing, Community and Recreation. Come along and see what life in the Army is really about!
HOUSING: The United States Army provides modern housing for Soldiers and their families. Single Soldiers may live in an apartment, complete with up-to-date appliances, a full-kitchen and separate bedroom. Single soldiers may also live in a dorm-style barrack with modern amenities, including washrooms, spacious closets, and common areas with entertainment centers and other forms of recreation.
Soldiers with families typically live in 3-4 bedroom houses with a driveway, patio and yard. Soldiers may also have the option to live off-post. Your housing situation may depend on your marital status, the size of your family and your rank. Ask your recruiter for more details.
COMMUNITY: Need to pick up some groceries, or mail a letter? Want to go to the mall or hit the gym?
All of your needs are covered on an Army post. You will have access to name-brand apparel and groceries at the Post Exchange (PX) and Commissary, but at discounted prices. You will also have access to many community services, including:
- Schools
- Fire stations
- Chapels
- Hospitals and clinics
- Post offices
- Automotive repair centers
- Daycare centers
RECREATION: Wind down after a long day by hitting the links, going bowling or hanging out at the rec center with your buddies.
You’ll have plenty of opportunities to blow off steam. Army posts provide hundreds of recreational amenities, including an 18-hole golf course, movie theaters, ice-skating rinks, bowling alleys and outdoor fun.
