MusicCast CONTROLLER for Android
I just installed a new Yamaha RX-1070 receiver and I continue to receive Connection Failed Error (-20305) when trying to connect it via this app. I was able to manually add the receiver to AV controller but there isn't an option for manual add in MusicCast. I spent 45 minutes with Yamaha's chat help today with no resolution. Do not purchase a Yamaha product with hopes of using this app.
A disgrace. All I want is to be able to play a folder on my nas in the correct track order. Who wants to hear an album in alpabetical order for heaven's sake? i have only had my wxad 10 for an hour and already reget it becausr it uses the worst app ever.
Really convenient. I love that it streams to the reciever over wifi, so you dont get any interference like with bluetooth. However, this app could have a tad better UX and it has a few annoying bugs with volume control and connectivity. It looks like they update once in a while though.
The App is nice but there are still two things to improve. First the delay by streaming YouTube and listen to it on the Cast. The lips are moving um synchronize. Second a fade out function so the cast device will getting quieter and then get completely off.
Would be great...if it actually worked consistently. Spent an hour trying to re-connect this morning, only for it to lose connection again a couple of hours later. I spend more time trying (and failing) to connect to my stereo than I do listening to music.
0-stars. Dear Yamaha and App Developer: F**k you for such a lame and feature incomplete 1990s app that you boast about in the sales marketing of your A/V products. This absolutely sucks!
To change the volume I need to unlock my phone, go in to the app, navigate through to the 'now playing' page, select volume and then finally adjust it. The app needs to offer volume control from my phone's physical volume buttons (galaxy s5). also spotify interaction is glitchy.
One of the main reasons for me to buy WXC 50 for which this app is intended (among others) is the support for Dezeer, however, it's best feature the Flow, does not work - it just keeps repearing the same 4, 5 songs over and over again. This is really disappointing, and if I knew this before, I would not have opted for this device. Everything else is ok, nothing special and a bit slow, but working.
I frequently get a 201 error: previously connected devices not detected, even though they are turned on and next to my WiFi router. Very poor for an app that should allow me to turn the device on from stand-by. Needs a search function for USB, but most importantly, needs to simply work and find my connected devices!
I own three Yamaha units with MusicCast support and four Sonos units. This app is kind of ok as a simple remote replacement, not as a multi room controller for streaming media. MusicCast lacks search functionality. This means its almost impossible to find songs on a nas with 60k tunes... No real integration with Spotify. Very low WAF...
Used with a CRX N470 (which is great by the way). As others say this apps getting there, it's good for simply selecting sources, playing net radio, setting volume etc. Why on earth doesn't it save the FM or DAB station name within favourites ? Storing "DAB 206" etc really doesn't give me a clue what the station is, I would even be happy i could edit the favourite labels. I wish the FM radio view would always or optionally display the RDS data instead of needing to look for it in a menu?. I mainly use Neutron music player (VERY impressive & best audio player app ) to index and play 1000s of mp3 files from a USB flash in the rear of a bt home hub 4 (smb) and route tablets audio via Bluetooth to the n470 - flawless and great. However! the n470 can't see or connect to this smb nas storage, why?? . Generally pleased but fixing some niggles would make me whoop.
Bluetooth didn't work. It was big pain for me. Android 6 & lenovo yoga tab3 plus & ysp 1600. Finally i found the solution. Turn off this app and use the remote. Ploblem has gone. You 'd beter fix the bluetooth malfunction.
DSD decoding does'nt work consistently. App freeze from time to time. New seek option doesnt work at all. I'm having better sound with plastic corean IAMM 83 player. Dissapointed with player and app.
It just works. The 'Network Server' function is especially nice if you want to play music from your NAS or hard drive. Little minus: the names of the preset FM & DAB stations are not listed in the app. I have a CRX-N470D receiver, sometimes it loses its Musiccast connection over wifi. I then must interrupt the mains connector of the receiver in order to get it working again. This problem is not related to the app however; my Yamaha AV-receiver RX-S601D does not have this problem. You can link multiple Musiccast devices through the app. For example, I use my AV-receiver as master with the CRX-N470D receiver linked as secondary.
Great app in combination with my Yamaha CRX-N470D. The link between the app and device is great, it feels like it responds instantly when pressing the buttons in the app, also when multiple people use the app at the same time it synchronizes nicely between the two app users and the device. I like the visual interface and the way it resembles the Spotify app.
App slowly developing. Now with Tidal although without gapless playback (very disappointing). Still unable to skip to the middle of the track.
I use it with RX-A3070 receiver. Tidal is slow, it takes too long to see my playlists on the screen. Other than that it's acceptable.
Great app but desperately needs the ability to search the files held on a server. Having to scroll through all the artists every time when you have a large library is crazy. Take a look at squeeze commander, this kit needs the same functionality!
The worst! If I could do it all over I would have just gone with Sonos. The app is finicky at best and never can just work. Beware changing out your modem, phone, whatever. This app isn't smart enough to handle. Buyer beware.
Recently added YSP-2700 to my system. Found out that I can't set sleep timer for my soundbar but works for my mini hifi.
When it works it works well. When there are issues it's a right royal pain. Spent the day yesterday trying the app on a number of devices after it failed unexpectedly. Turns out the amp somehow reconfigured it's network settings (default gateway)...yet still worked happily with the av controller app making me think the issue was software based. The few useless error messages this app did produce didn't help identify the problem. It's working again so happy days, but I'm hoping it doesn't mess up again, but in a diffent way (as this time was hard enough to diagnose)
Still confused....what is the difference between that app and regular AV controller.... Really... Can anyone tell me please!? Don't unique...and you will get your 5 stars Yamaha.
Now I know why this app has such bad ratings... It's a disaster... does nothing!! Get the regular AV controller app and forget about this rubbish!!
This app is really great! There are many features. I do have a few suggestions though: music on 'this phone’should have a better UI and navigation. A search function here would be good. The addition of a notification to access the controls of the speakers by swipping down- like the widget. Sometimes there is no connection between the app and the speakers even though they are on the same network.
Samsung S6 Edge WX-030 - app and speaker unresponsive when switching between apps on phone. Have to force restart.
A perfect app, one functionality is missing - to transfer audio from another Android app to a Yamaha receiver via WiFi (a video player, a drum app, web browser, game music player or a game.) Works fine when I am at home, but when I am anywhere else where WiFi is available, why cannot I play online radio through the internal speaker of the Android device?
Lacks two important features: track fast forward and track progress bar. If it had these, my rating would have been a straight 5. I am using the app on Yamaha AS710 - WXC50 - Samsung A5 2017 combination.
Great app! Would like to be able to page, (i.e. one way intercom) to select/ combination of zones from my phone to call the kids/ family to supper... (basically, temporarily pause what's playing on the zone(s) and speak to them using the phone's microphone)
Stopped working on my S7 and my wife's iPhone 7. Keep getting a failure to connect message. I have 4 yamaha musiccast speakers all useless without this. Go fir Sonos.
It is a nice app but sometimes the receiver does not connect to my samsung galaxy s6 and it would be better if you can hear music with youtube but I am not sure if it is possible with this app.
Great start to the app, and hopefully Yamaha will continue to develop the app. It would be great to have more room presets or musiccast play lists though. 4 room presets is no-where near enough, especially if you have several audio devices.
Does the job. Would like to see the option of folder/filename-based sorting when playing files from phone though, instead of the app being slave to tags and in some cases the 'last modified' timestamp (?).
Horrible, have to go through the re connection procedure almost every time i use it
Spent longer than I should have trying to connect to brand new Yamaha TSR-5830. Fails every time (-20315). Waste of time.
Upgraded from 2 to 4* for fixing a lot of the connection and stability issues. Still sort it out before releasing the product!
Brilliant app, does all that I need and much more. Can control my Yamaha WXAD 10 from all my devices, both android and iOS.
Locks up too much
Doesn't work with 2070
Have the WXC 50, lie it and the app is great but I cannot gett AIFF files to play via te Network or on the USB stick. Anybody know why? All other formats play ie: Flac, Wav, Apple lossless. Cannot find any answers!!??

Nice, but with room to grow... I run it with a WXC-50 device. *This app needs to have a track end time on the UI and the ability to scroll through the track on DLNA and USB, not just a smartphone. Other players have it, why not this...?? *How about recognising M3U playlists.... Not a big ask for Yamaha... *Seems to have issues reading a hard drive too, as in, only reads so many files on a USB Drive (WHY?????), which is disappointing if you have a decent collection of albums. ***I would expect a Yamaha device to have ALL the capabilities of a cheap DLNA App - at least. Yamaha Australia says it's a work in progress, but it needs to progress faster, but it is all up to Japan.... Hello Japan, do better please...!
