About Colorado Peak ID (Beta)

Have you ever been on top of a Colorado mountain and wondered what that other interesting looking mountain across the valley was called?

Now you can just point your phone at the mountain and see what it's called and how tall it is using the augmented reality display in the Colorado Peak ID app!

This app is designed to help you identify all of the 13ers and 14ers in Colorado. You can set the range (up to 50 miles) of peaks you'd like to see and also filter out peaks you're not interested in -- so if you're only interested in centennial thirteeners, you can deselect the fourteeners so that they won't clutter the display.

Like all augmented reality apps, this app is only as good as the compass and GPS on your phone, so please read the help instructions for calibrating this so that you can ensure that you get the best results possible. Some phones may not be able to place the identification marker exactly on the summit of the peak, but most phones should get close enough to be helpful.

Happy climbing!

Overall a neat idea but a little cumbersome. Halos specifying peaks aren't terribly accurate. One suggestion: move the range selector to the viewscreen so it's easier to adjust on the fly, not in a buried menu.

The mountains are almost never lined up right, so I can only identify peaks if I already know at least one. Also I think the distance is a problem, I can see pretty far off mountains, and those are the ones I wonder about. Also the windows that cover the screen should be swipe-able, or easier to hide, they often block what I'm trying to see.

Doesn't seem to work properly with my Droid Maxx with Android 4.4. Can't get menu to display or labels to show.

Tried it on top of quandary for the first time last week. Works pretty well. Displayed peaks very high on the screen, but could have been my fault for not calibrating first. Would be amazing if you could snap a picture within the app that saves the pic with the peak info displayed! Maybe on a future update?

The peak identifying part of the app works perfectly fine, but only if I'm within the default 5-mile range. There is no menu button, so I can't change the distance or the types of mountains displayed.

Tested and can locate nearby Peak 9 and 10. Now to test in the field!
