KMLZ to Earth Pro for Android
You made my day!
I can download and open kmz files on my iPad and Gingerbread Android phone, but they will not open on my Jelly Bean Nexus 7. I haven't had the time to investigate the reason, but with this app provided a quick and effective solution. I can now open the kmz files on the Nexus 7. I am not sure that I needed the pro version, but it's the least that I can do since this solved my problem so quickly and easily.
The program loads KMZ & KML and allows you to view them. But it's ability to place your position on the map is way off and it won't track you live. You have to go to the menu and pick 'locate me' and then it puts you somewhere within a mile of the map. Also, you can't create new maps. Not what i was looking for.
Works fine.
You made my day!
I just installed this software and it will not read/display KMZ or KML files. Don't waste your money until some of the bugs are eliminated.
I needed to be able to create a path in Google Earth on my Windows computer, drop it into a KML file, and display it in Google Earth for Android, on my tablet, for use in the field. Google Earth for Android states that it can open KML files, but in practice I couldn't get it to work – it dutifully tried to open the path, then it had this behavior where it simply closed itself. Frustrating. Out of ideas, I purchased KMLZ, and immediately all of my problems went away – everything is working great now. The little app has other features I'm sure I'll use later. But for now, I give them five stars for simply doing the job without a hitch, and allowing me to move forward to other things.
This was running amazingly well. But now I seem to be getting a layer of brown mud(?) over the imagery. This could be due to Earth updating to ver 7.0.0.7386. Wondering if it is possible to revert to an earlier version of Earth?
I strongly recommend this app for anyone aiming to leverage GE on Android without writing their own web server. The solution is as elegant as it is effective. Regarding the review from "Jim" that describes "brown mud" in the GE view: I experienced this same problem but was able to resolve it by carefully checking/revising my source KML and KMZ files. In my experience, the problem wasn't with the KMLZ application. Suspect the problems are caused by GE/Android's truncation of KML source files or possibly because my file referenced KML elements not yet supported by GE/Android. In all cases, the errors I found did not manifest in the "desktop" version of GE, only on Android devices. So, I've learned to ensure that all my KML/KMZ files conform to Google's standard for GE/Android. Again, this wasn't a problem with the KMLZ application.

Thanks Just need to be able to use 2-4 files at a time. Perfect tool for land/construction surveyors.
