Null Keyboard for Android
When switching from a virtual keyboard to Null Keyboard, it leaves a grey rectangle where the virtual keyboard was, taking up half the screen and not working properly until I quit and restart the app. Could use this fix, which would make this free app perfect!
For samsung tablets (owner of galaxy 10 inch) you must activate the null keyboard in the language and input settings. Once this is complete go into a text field. When the keyboard pops up hold down the keyboard icon in the task tray (bottom of the tablet screen) a small menu will pop up... select null keyboard. Note that the thumb keyboard may have to be selected prior to nulling from the task bar to prevent a obtrusive black screen cut-off.
I recently purchased a bluetooth keyboard for my Note 10.1 and it was behaving strangely. I could not press the number keys, it would only press the symbols linked to those numbers, like the "@" linked with the "2". After I installed this, everything is working like a charm!!
When I used Shift 2 and Shift 3 on the Toshiba Wireless Keyboard with the Samsung Galaxy Tab Tablet it printed " and the English pound signs respectively. On using the Null Keyboard these shift keys returned the correct signs of @ and # respectivly. Great stuff.
This problem was driving me insane but thanks to you I have recovered my insanity and can live a normal life – cheers. Does what it says on the tin and works a treat.
It's a shame that devs have to make stuff like this, instead of Google or the individual manufactorers realizing that it's a problem and fixing it themselves. Either way, thanks for thinking of this and doing it! Others in the future will hate me for saying this, but I would've paid $1 or something for this...
I currently use Phoenix OS on my Surface Pro 3 and was getting annoyed by the on-screen keyboard constantly displaying while typing on my Type Cover 4 physical dock keyboard. This app solved the problem - no more on-screen keyboard! Many thanks to the developer!
I can't understand why we have to download an app (albeit free) to dismiss the virtual keyboard & keep it dismissed. When I put my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (v4.0.4) into the Samsung keyboard dock, it should auto-disable the virtual KB until I remove it. Not rocket science here! Kudos to NULL KEYBOARD.
Easy to install and it works fine. Just one tiny thing. It only has English language keyboard which makes it useless if you use any other language keyboard than English. Luckily, after updating the software on my Samsung tablet, it is now also possible to turn off the on screen keyboard on the tablet itself. So this app has now become redundant. Still a great app though.
An excellent app. I can now use the Scribble program on my HTC Flyer without the annoying virtual keyboard popping up every few seconds. Thanks.
I don't use it with an external kb. Only want to prevent that big block keep popping up and down again and again when I'm switching between screens with text input boxes in them.
I loved this app with my win mobile phone. I always use my Think Outside stowaway keyboard and hate the default keyboard popping up. Thanks for making this for the Android!!!
This application provides the necessary workaround for an annoying issue which seems like short sighted problem on Android's part. However it would be nice if it's possible to use diffrent layouts.
This app is very good for when connecting to an external keyboard. It gives you greater screen real estatae, which is always nice. It does what is says, and does it well (not that I could think of any thing to make it better or worse:-)
Works if i consistently turn it on..my on screen will turn back on after a few minutes if my external keynoard is idle for a minute. What's worse, however, is that it ruins my Samsung keyboard when my external is not in use. My word guess and continuous input (swype) will not function even though turned on unless i restart my tablet every time i turn null keyboard off or...unfortunately uninstall the app! I need my swype! -Galaxy Note 10.1
Unsure about using this app now, because when I went to select it, a window pops up saying "it will collect all the text you type, including personal info and credit card numbers." Yeah, I don't think so.
Had a problem with the on screen keyboard, on my android TV device. I have an external remote/keyboard, and the on screen keyboard just took up the whole screen. This app worked perfectly to get rid of it.
I usb host a keyboard and mouse combo on my tablet and this app solves so many problems i have with my other on screen keyboards when i'm using my usb keyboard. The only thing that could make this app any better is if it auto detects usb/bluetooth keyboards so it can enable/disable itself
the app records unrelated info from your typing. intrusive and not neccessary for th e function ... not good business pratices
Well it works, using it for my CX-919 ii, typed this comment without the annoying on screen keybord with a usb keyboard, Thnx! Solved all my problems
When I boot, sometimes my physical keyboard works and sometimes it doesn't. The RCA User Manual for the 11 Mavan Pro says that once the keyboard is attached to the tablet, the tablet will sense the connection and make the physical keyboard the default. WRONG! I have no idea why it doesn't sense the 4 or 5 pins that slide inside the female adapters. It should work like a USB port and at least ask if you want to use the virtual or the physical keyboard, but it is what it is..... or should I say it was what it was. Now, when I see that stupid virtual keyboard pop up and hide almost the entire page, I just go to the app icon (that I put on my homescreen from one of the widget drawers) and when I click on it, I'm given a choice of keyboards. If my tablet is connected to my keyboard but still forces me to use virtual keyboard, I go back to the homescreen and select the icon and then select "Null Keyboard". I'm not sure how it works, but it works every time! Thanks so much for creating this app in a way that gives the user a choice, not just at the beginnning of a sesson, but anytime during the session. The only time I would turn it off is if I want the added security of virtual
So often the software keyboard is triggered even when I am not entering text, or I can't get it to minimize when I'm done entering text. This app, in conjunction with floating keyboard picker, easily solves that problem. It's such a relief! Thanks!
Does it remove the on-screen keyboard when you use an external keyboard? Yes. It leaves a white box where the on-screen KB was. Sometimes I can get the box to disapear, sometimes.
It doesn't seem to work correctly on my Android 5.0 device! It still raises windows and panels to be only half the screen high, for some reason.
For the guy below me, EVERY third-party Keyboards you enable will have that warning. >>>>> EVERY <<<<<<
It's unclear why I need one over the other. Waiting for dev to email me back, then I'll revise this review.
Even after setting up a bluetooth keyboard and this app, if the keyboard times out, the Samsung device defaults to an onscreen keyboard so it's quite annoying. TIP: If you don't want the black box on the bottom, change your keyboard through Settings rather than the keyboard icon on the bottom. Wish device was smart enough to detect bluetooth connection is a keyboard so onscreen doesn't pop up. Not the fault of the developers, just so you know what to expect on the Galaxy Note 10.1
Very useful. Should be baked into the OS of Android Mini PCs. Thanks!
great way to remove the software keyboard. also, it's free.
I am using Samsung tab 3, which doesn't support otg cable and so I can not add any keyboard. I need to add ,so I installed it. Will it work with bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Please help me. And which company bluetooth keyboards would be best. Thanks.
Using keyboard manager I set my keyboard to autmatically toggle to this null keyboard when a bluetooth keyboard is detected...solved the on screen problem! although using a privacy app i was also warned during install that the null keyboard is collecting identification info from users during installation... no reason for that, why on earth does this developer need to know who I am? I blocked identification access and it still works fine.
This does exactly what I need to do when I have a physical keyboard connected to my tablet. The message about the possibilty of collecting info like passwords and credit card numbers is part of the OS, and this app can't do that because it doesn't have permission to access the Internet.
Since I always use my DROID 3's keyboard, this app helps me reduce consumed resources and annoyances.
My only issue (on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 running Android 3.2) is that some of the special keys on my Zagg keyboard (such as paste) don't work in some apps (such as Dolphin).
All I'm asking for is a keyboard that does nothing and guess what? This does nothing. I see some complaints from other users that this isn't working so well and leaves a black bar. I don't know if they fixed this, but I am running 4.1.1 jb on my tablet and there are no issues. Thank you developers for making nothing a reality.
Gets rid of touch screen keyboard when I attach my usb or bluetooth keyboard. ...good job... it works.
Since Jellybean update Null keyboard keeps being disabled as default by Samsung. When I switch back to Null as default, the area on the screen becomes blacked out. Worked great before the software upgrade, please fix.
Works great. I use Tasker to activate this whenever my Logitech BT keyboard is connected. That way the screen isn't eaten up by a keyboard. This is especially annoying in landscape mode. Thanks for a good usable, no frills app.
I need to constantly switch between two languages for typing. With all other keyboards it was + . In this one, it doesn't work. Is there a way to switch using keyboard commands?
