About Thai <> English Dictionary

Whether you're on a short trip to Thailand, working with Thais, or studying the Thai language in-depth, this is the one dictionary you can really use. 195,000+ entries (250,000+ translations), plus a built-in phrasebook with 300+ categories and 12,000+ words and full-text searchable, ready-to-use customizable phrases. Clear native sound recordings for every Thai word—even offline. Favorites screen lets you organize words/phrases in multiple folders. Includes both pronunciation guides (12 different systems) and Thai Script with the Thai and English text as big as you want. Includes a guide to speaking and writing Thai and other mind-blowing features for exploring the Thai language—nothing else even comes close!

== Listen to Any Thai Word

Touch any Thai word/phrase in any of our 195,000+ entries to hear a high-quality sound recording of a native speaker, not a toneless gravelly robot as found in other software—more than 29 hours of studio-recorded sound included. Long-press to hear 2x/4x slow playback with no change in pitch.

== No Connection Required and No Data Charges

Works even when you're in a taxi or a countryside street market and not connected to the internet: all entries and sounds are stored right on your Android phone or tablet, and you will incur no data charges when you use the app.

== Big Text and Clear, Clean Layout

Make the Thai and English text as big as you want—no more reading glasses! Easily scroll through multiple, full definitions on the screen at once. Customize layout. Choose standard OR big-key Thai keyboard.

== A Dictionary Crafted for Those Learning Thai

Unlike typical dictionaries based on low-quality, free internet data meant for Thai natives, our superb dictionary entries are hand-crafted by Paiboon Publishing with your needs in mind: if you're not familiar with the Thai alphabet, you can even look up Thai words by their sound using an easy-to-read pronunciation guide system (12 popular systems are supported). Hear somebody say "sa nuk?" Type "sa nuk" to find out what it means. All Thai words in every section are written using both Thai Script and your chosen pronunciation guide system(s).

Unlike dictionaries meant for Thais, we clarify critical shades of Thai word meaning and formality using English explanations, we list crucial Thai classifiers for more than 60,000 noun entries, and we even notate syllable stress.

== Built-In Phrasebook

Beginner or advanced, communicate in Thai easily! 12,000+ phrasebook entries in 300+ categories like “Language Difficulties,” “Hotel,” “Renting a Place,” “Food/Drink,” “Price Haggling,” “Transportation,” “Health,” “Shopping,” “Sightseeing,” “Love/Romance/Sex” and even “Swearing/Insults.” Two-way conversational format helps both of you communicate.

== Introduction to Thai Included

More than just a dictionary, our software includes a comprehensive introduction to the Thai language, including a "Speaking and Understanding" section with clickable sounds and detailed grammar coverage, and a "Reading and Writing" section with all the consonants and vowels in multiple, real-world fonts.

== Unique Thai Learning Tools

This app is loaded with amazing, industry-first Thai learning tools. You can touch any word to find out which component Thai words it's made from: a great way to learn new words quickly. You can see any Thai word written in multiple real-word fonts you are likely to see on signs and menus. You can touch any Thai word to see a detailed interactive breakdown of how to pronounce each syllable (with clickable sounds that let you compare nearby sounds) or see a detailed visual explanation of its Thai spelling—indispensable for learning how to read and write Thai. Our website has more details and pictures.

Nothing like this has ever appeared in any dictionary software on any platform.

Amazing dictionary and phrases app, two apps in one. The app is so versatile that it accommodates every wish in the way to use it. It's a must for everyone not fluent in Thai. Very clear sound. Also the only dictionary that shows the proper classifiers for the nouns. Have been using the previous version since the start. Once you have spend some time setting up your preferences for how/what to see and what not, this version is really awesome!

This is THEEE dictionary! Rich database, intuitive handling, very accurate translation and perfect audio samples. It serves the need of a tourist with no, little and advanced knowledge of thai and native speakers too. Whatever you might expect from a dictionary - it is there. I like the intuitive word suggestions and clusters.

Amazing App, amazing guy who writes it. As I was in search for some English Thai translation app I ran into this. As they were doing some extensive beta testing, I joined the group. So all you now see is part of really thoughtful tests and test plans performed. I got some real insights into the process. For the preparation phase from my view 10 points :) The App itself is very well structured, has tons of examples, explanations even for the basics of Thai written or spoken language. You can adapt the GUI including keyboards, fontsizes, etc. The categories tree gives a structured overview and deep dive into many topics. You can combine phrases as so-called super phrases, have lots of options to jump to linked materials, can show or hide tips anytime. The GUI is well structured and clean. There are so much positive details to describe that it don't fits here. There is constant development and the next version will have more new adaptions from ideas collected. This App will continue and be supported for a long time. Overall one of the best Apps I have even seen in the store. Compliments for the good and hard work to accomplish this.

WTF? New version is JUNK! Dumbed down interface, creeping featurism, non standard keyboards. Trying to be everything for everyone. Simple good. Complicated bad. How about just be a dictionary? And leave out the 8000+ names of Thailand's chungwat, amphoe and tambons? Cluttered. Yuck.

I have used this product since the beginning and I wouldn't be without it. Although I speak some Thai and I live in Thailand I use this app every single day. The speaking part of this app is amazingly good and I can communicate with any Thai person even if my pronunciation isn't what it could be - I just can't recommend this product highly enough - everyone I have recommended it to, from complete beginners to fluent non native speakers of Thai have loved it. The most useful app I have ever purchased

Wow! I've used this app for years, and I love the new version. I am still struggling a bit to get Thai speech to text to work, as it re-selects the English keyboard as soon as I finish speaking (entering "chompoo" for instance when I try to speak the Thai rose apple) it could just be my lousy pronunciation, however. I completely rely on this app when in Thailand or with my Thai graduate students in the US. It is the most expensive app I've ever bought, but when I switched from iOS to Android, I didn't hesitate to purchase it again. Now If these folks could just port Khmer into the same model, I would happily pay.

V2 strengthens this app's position as a useful dictionary / language tool for beginning students of the Thai language with the introduction of a phrasebook and new functionalities. Intermediate and advanced users will be disappointed to see that the dictionary's main shortcoming (the lack of example sentences to illustrate idiom) has hardly been addressed.

Absolutely the Very Best! I've been using Paiboon's Thai <> English Dictionary since 2012 and Version 2 is WAY better! If you're seriously interested in the Thai language, skip a meal if you must but BUY THIS APP! You will not be disappointed. It works flawlessly on my Nexus 6P, my old Samsung Galaxy 3 tablet and even works as an Andorid app on my Acer ChromeBook R13 (beta). I use it every day and wouldn't be without it!

Great work guys! I was big fan of your dictionary. Then I bought this app a few years ago. I became a fan of this one. But still I were not able to use it on my Xiomi MIUI. And then, this update came, and holla it works great on all of my devices. It has become a true value for money for every Thai enthusiast.

I've been using this app for years, I've paid for it twice once when I had an IPhone and again since using a Samsung. I'm now living in Thailand and I am so disappointed with this "upgrade" I much preferred the old GUI the new one I think is terrible. I've changed settings according to a reply to another review but would still like to go back to the old version please.

Outstanding Thai dictionary. Yes, it costs, but it is far and away the BEST dictionary for learners of Thai that I have downloaded (and I have four on my tablet). Worth every cent. Too many great features to list here but, if you are trying to learn Thai, this is the only dictionary you will ever need. Being able to hear the tones changed the way I was learning my Thai. Update: I've just downloaded the newest version and they've made a great app even better. The 'favourites' section is something I was hoping they would include in the update. Took a few minutes to learn the new interface, but now blazing away. ดีมาก!

High quality dictionary. Includes explanations of writing and pronounciation. Easy to switch between audio, Thai script and phonetic script of your choice. Also phrases and word groups for basic study.

I love this app, and have been using it for over a year on my phone and tablet. I recently installed it on my Chromebook Flip which runs Android apps (the future of all Chromebooks) and it works perfectly, in full-screen mode no less. I should note that, as an existing user I was invited to beta test this version. Like no other app developer Chris answered all of my questions and concerns promptly and I saw evidence of my contributions along the way.

***Updated 3 Feb 2017 I'll be a bit more specific with the issues in the new release. First. If you use the Thai in-app keyboard you are presented with a nonstandard key layout that will slow down input from all users of Thai keyboards except for users of this layout. They provide no way to switch to a standard layout using the built-in keyboard. Second. If you use the app on your smartphone as l do, the three tabs at the top of the keyboard take up a significant amount of space on your screen. This is true even on the large screen of my Note 4. Even when you use an alternative keyboard like I do (SwiftKey) the tabs stay at the top of the keyboard and as far as I can tell there is no way to hide them. This is especially annoying since the become nonfunctional when you are using an alternative keyboard. Three. Despite the publisher's reply to my initial post, there is no way to set the layout back to the one in various. 1.7. It has some similarly to it but it is not the same. I've been a user of the app on an almost daily basis for a few years and have recommended it to a number of people living here in Thailand. Until the issues are resolved, I'll be telling people to hold off on getting the app. Finally, as to the publisher's statement that Google does not offer an option to revert to the previous version, that is partially true. However, there is a way to reach the same result. Set up a separate offering that allows people to download the prior version. I know that it is possible because one of the other apps I use has done so in the past. No excuse for not providing it here. *** How can I go back to the prior version? While the new features are nice, the redesigned user interface is terrible. I use a phone with a large screen (Note 4) and the layout of the search page makes it much more difficult to use. Hopefully there is a way to revert back to the prior version.

Used daily. Great way to communicate with Thai speakers. Since I purchased this dictionary, I have found many everyday words are not included. For the benefit of others I will send a list to Paiboon. Don't forget this dictionary is American English to Thai. For COLOUR you need to enter COLOR. Maybe look up words of British English to get the translation first,, although Paiboon could incorporate this in the word search. Google Translate lists all versions and all the words that Paiboon leave out.

This is a top notch app - I use it at least twenty times a day. The fact that every Thai word in the dictionary has a voice component makes it a superb learning tool. What's more, you can even change the font of the Thai, which can be helpful if you are trying to learn a new one. Perhaps in the future, the developers can add more common phrases and collocations. Great work!

Installed this app on my Samsung Galaxy and sync'ed at home. Was working fine on December 9 without an internet connection (it's obviously a pretty nice application, WHEN IT WORKS). Arrived in Thailand December 12th - received error message about needing to log into Google (which I did, with no resolution). Traveling the Golden Triangle region via motorcycle - reliable internet connections were hard to come by (think dial-up or less) - which is why I purchased this expensive app in the first place - as it is supposed to work without internet connection. Left Thailand Dec. 22 without ever having been able to use it (better things to do on vacation than debug beta software issues). Out the 24.99. Caveat emptor. BTW, using your CALCULATOR on the phone to help translate Thai pricing to decimal numbers instead of Thai language covered 90% of translation needs.

Y70%
by Y####:

I would give this app 5 stars if it was not for the super annoying randomly timed license check. If it decides to check when you are not online it locks down the app until it can get online. I have had it lock up in Thai class more times than I can count as the wifi signal in the classroom is weak. Making sure to open the app while connected does not fix the problem.
