Tree ID - British trees for Android
Absolutely love this app! It works so well! The only thing I can think to add would be the ability to change the Google maps layer in the add location dialogue. This would then sometimes allow the exact pinpointing of the tree you want to log. Thanks for making such a great app!
Pictures of trees, the most vital element of the result, are distorted and way too small on my tablet, a samsung 10 inch, which i have to turn into portrait mode anyhow and tho it is just about useable, why is most of the screen filled with text not pictures with which to confirm the resjlt, non distorted pictures! Good price, tho.
Very simple to use. Does not show every tree (too many) but the descriptions are full, well illustrated and very useful. Becoming a bit of an anorak because of it. It is helping develop my long standing interest in trees. Thank you Woodland Trust.
Photos good. - points: Found i am making lots of mistakes with selecting leaf shapes and sometimes at the end it doesn't give enough options but as i'm poring over the app some other bits n pieces are falling into place. ++ points: like to record what i've seen using the app.
I dont usually write reviews for apps but this is brilliant, just what I've been looking for. Definitely needs more species added though hopefully they will update it with time.
Should work but it doesn't. Everything comes out as buckthawn or elder. Depends on ability to interpret near-identical leaf shapes. Suspect it is missing many trees but also there are multiple interpretations of same features.
I trialled this app on some trees I definitely knew and others I really wished to identify. Even where I knew the tree and followed the id questions carefully it failed to include the correct answer in the possibles list. It could be good, but us actually completely useless I'm afraid.
I am an estate manager been managing woods for a a long time still found lots of interesting information in the app and it's propelled me into doing something I have meant to do for a long time, to catalogue good examples of interesting trees. What would make it better? 1 greater range of trees 2 ability to add more than one photo per tree type. However I know professionals and amateurs who find this app valuable.
Ok for just looking at to waste time. Bad for identifying anything, so far this app has identified 0 trees for me based on the questions it asks.
I walk through a park everyday and I've often wondered what the trees were, now I cam find out. Rather the examples were illustrated than photos, but that's a miner gripe.
Runs well but hasn't identified our Rowan tree, it thinks the leaflets are staggered but they are not on a Rowan. Even the pictures in the A-Z showed what the leaves are like, so how did the app get it wrong?
For a person who spends a lot of time in nature and loves trees but doesn't know what he's looking at. This app is great im well on my way to identifying my sycamores from my english oaks ect but for those of you who are more advanced this app probably wont be that helpful
Good, but you don't always get the correct species on your first attempt. User error?
Really easy to use and identify trees. Could probably do with some more types added and some more pictures to identify slight variances. I now know more trees!
This should have been one of the first apps I installed.Didn't know it could be so intuitive. Great.
As others have said it doesn't include many non native species that you'll often find in parks and gardens, maybe this will come in future updates?? A nice feature of this app I the ability to add your own sightings with photos and locations for future reference, overall for a free app there isn't much to complain about ????
There is a bit of needing to learn what each of the descriptions mean...my scaly is different to their scaly...but really love it otherwise
Could maybe add a feature where you can view other users tree locations... Maybe if a small area on the map receives more than 5 pins for the same species (added by 5 different users rather than allowing one pin-happy person to fill up maps with nonsense!); that species could then be visable to all, at that location on the map? I would just find it interesting to see what trees populate various woodland and forests without having to stop off at every woodland and investigate! :)
I have used this a few times now and it has helped me identify each tree without any problems. Easy to use by a process of elimination, but easier if a twig is brought home to check leaf structure and opposite or alternate leaves. Recommended.
This app is a dream come true. Love trees, but oh so ignorant about various species etc. Thanks a million for it. John
How do you log out of it/turn it off without hitting the back button all the way to where you started??
Has a good system to narrow down searches by leaf type, fruit etc but the photos of each tree are distant so no way to confirm which of the options left is the correct one. Needs close up photos of leaves, fruit and nuts associated with each tree.
A great Tree ID app but manually adding a species to my saved trees that is in a remote location it always automatically enters nearest town, village or road. It would be useful if it would accept location you enter or grid reference.
I absolutely love this app. I am an arboriculuralist working for a local authority and find the extra cultural information fascinating. It is full of interesting snippets to share with colleagues, friends and the general public. Well done. I will recommend this to many
The identity trees by feature isn't all that but the rest is bloody good
Just tried it on my tablet, but the photos appear stretched sideways. It doesn't seem to adapt to different aspect ratio screens.
Didn't realise that you needed to swipe right to choose different options. Otherwise think it's a great app
Great little app to keep handy when out and about. Like the wizard which helps to narrow down each tree depending on the features of the tree. I love it thanks.
Great reminder of what trees surround us! Easy to use detailed app giving a greater understanding & appreciation of the things we need most and take for granted...
It works well as a good introduction to tree identity and botany. I hope the developers can keep extending this app, with more leaf illustrations and other features. Good work!
As a newbie walker, I found this really rather useful during walks in the local countryside. I'd really recommend for town people just beginning to explore woodland areas. Brilliant :)
Not good. Apparently the same 5 trees have both double serated leaves and single serated....
Very informative, many ways to identify trees from good quality photos ,lots of other interesting facts & figures very good free app also seems to be ad free too !
Without a doubt this is the best app I've ever downloaded (and consequently the first I've reviewed!). The only issue is saving the location of trees in remote locations without signal, even if your phone can locate itself. Download it, go for a walk, and learn about the world around you :-)
Only has 70 or so trees. OK some of the trees we looked up arent native, but there are loads of non native trees. Couldnt find the first (most important) tree we looked for. Needs expanding in its coverage. Otherwise very good. It operates in a sensible way.
Good for identifying common British trees, but does not cover many common non-indigenous species. The 'My Saved Trees' is just annoying, especially if you don't allow location use, it also appears impossible to delete saved trees. Would far prefer the app not to have internet and location permissions.
Works great and a good bit of fun. Especially useful for identifying pines and conifers. Unlike some other tree ID apps, it doesn't require WiFi or data-roaming to function - so is suitable to use in all the remote corners of Britain!
Tried to identify two trees which have been bugging me for ages but can't seem to find a match. A good app but either the options it gives you don't quite add up or they need to add more species
Lots of good information and pictures. Saving the location is a bit fiddly, because it defaults to Grantham Could do with a name Search on the A-Z listing so you don't have to scroll through the whole list.

Far too difficult to view your saved trees. You have to open a map and the zoom all the way in and try to find the pinpoint which is where the tree is. Bizarre really. I just want to go and read about the trees I saved in a list. Secondly it seems the list of trees is quite small and often it's not got your tree, but overall it works well.
