About Illinois Wildflowers

This not-for-profit app contains descriptions and photographs of over 1,200 plants that grow in Illinois. A search feature helps you quickly find plants by allowing you to enter plant characteristics such as plant habitat, flower color and time of observation. Select the plants that you see to automatically build a plant list.

The plant descriptions come from Dr. John Hilty's "Illinois Wildflowers" website, at www.illinoiswildflowers. Over the last 15 years Dr. Hilty has compiled excellent plant descriptions. Each plant description includes photographs, a detailed Description, information about Cultivation, Range & Habitat, Faunal Associations, a Distribution Map and Comments.

The plants are divided into three groups. The Wildflower group consists of 894 plants and is further divided into Prairie, Savanna, Woodland, Wetland and Weedy plants. The Tree group includes 169 plants that are trees, shrubs or woody vines. The Plants without Flowers group includes over 200 plants that are ferns, grasses, sedges, rushes and a clubmoss.

Very easy to navigate. I spend some time in the timber and prairies hunting, and I am always trying to identify the various plants and trees. This app makes it simple. My only complaint is it turns a ten minute walk around the pond into a half hour because I'm constantly stopping to look something up.

I like the simple interface which allows selection of location, color, petals leaves and month of the year, but the app stops every time I hit "show" for the results. Tried multiple different searches but all failed to show the flowers. It's a huge app over 200MB. Will uninstall now but come back later to see if the app has been fixed.

Easy to use and helpful. Works even when you have no service and in states other than Illinois (I'm in Mass.)
