Whistle for Android
Great app but I use it alot to track my puppies activity. If he doesn't hit 200 min. we don't get much sleep. The app only refreshes once a day NOT when you view activity. More frequent refreshes would make this perfect.
I feel like I'm always charging it! It will be fully charged and half a day later I get notifications that the battery is low! I'm also not convinced how well the GPS is. I have gotten notifications that my dog has left the whistle zone when he's laying at my feet. Also have gotten the same notification when it's on the dock. We used the tracking feature when he got out and it helped. It was pretty accurate. Great concept but not enjoying the short battery life and the not so accurate updates on location.
The app is not precise enough to locate a unit in your backyard. If you have a active breed it will fall off. Will be looking into AKC link.
I would recommend this to a friend. It has worked really well in the area I live, and I'm surrounded by 62 acres of trees. Customer service is a 10! The only thing I have noticed is that the resting time is not being posted. I've only seen it once. But what's most important to me is when and where he's going. Despite the negative reviews, I purchased it anyway ,and I am very satisfied!! Worth the money.
Location is accurate but app has serious flaw. Takes a good 5-10 minutes to recognize dog is out of home zone and won't allow you to refresh location when it thinks dog is in home zone. My dog can be 1/4 to 1/2 mile away in any direction in that time.
Old satellite picture while tracking dog, At least 5 years. Where is Google sat. Pic.
Quite honestly the app does not work exactly the way I hoped it would... There is definitely a daily disconnect on their activity... But in reality overall it's a good product. I've got three dogs and one of them is an excellent escape artist. He would leave when he is ready but in the meantime I was worried sick. Now I know pretty much where he's at and I pick up the little fella up in a few minutes. Email support has a delay, but very friendly and very helpful people. I would definitely recommend this.
Simple solid answer to losing a pet. I've pushed it to it's limits and it has worked flawlessly. I am seriously considering a second one FOR MY CAR! One change I would like to see is a more secure way to attach to his collar. For some reason he loves the attention when I put it on him. He sits with his chest out and stares straight ahead. When it's on his tail starts up and he's looking for hugs.
The app only refreshes my dog's activity once a day, and even then it doesn't happen until the next day. So good luck checking activity after a trip to the park. Additionally, the "Timeline" bugs out for 5-10 seconds after pulling down for a refresh. And then the app has trouble switching to other days without sending you back to today. I'd love another option, but unfortunately it's not possible.
Would be great if you could add photos to each individual activity rather a general photo post i.e.: Play 10min > add photo for that specific play time entry. Updating activity isn't very reliable, takes quite awhile to refresh. I was an early Whistle user, am surpised Android app hasn't been given the attention it deserves.
I've had the same tracker since the Tagg days and I'm a little surprised the rating now isn't higher. I can set my home area much smaller than I could before, which is great since we are in dense woods. The tracking seems to work better, and the app is almost over attentive to my needs. In fact, I'm deducting a star because of the over-zealous nature of the app. I only need this for tracking purposes, I don't need all the social info or to input my dogs nutritional intake. The app just seems bloated.
I like that I can track my dog but don't like the 3 minute delay on the system how does that help? Go to where my dog was 3 minutes later and then she is long gone to a new location....speaking from experience!. They need to have real time gps no delays!
My baby girl has had it since day one. Since I lost my other Baby girl. Tells me Every time we're out of the zone, when we're back in. Activity everyday. You can see when battery is getting low. Although about once every 2 months it has to be reset I'm fine with that.
Still all these things below but this also needs to be updated for Android N. There are zero notifications out of the app on Android 7.0. This thing is entirely too cluttered. I use the tracker for just that, a tracker. Burying that feature inside the app is irresponsible. People need to be able to open the app and tap track immediately. Horrible material design. The app also needs notification control. Also, please learn to add a change log when you release an app update.
The concept is fantastic, GPS to find your pup if they run away. The down side is the delay in the "dog left whistle zone" notice. Sometimes I'll drive my dog to day care and get a notice that she left the whistle zone 30 minutes after she's dropped off (miles away from the whistle zone). Other times, the minute she leaves the whistle zone, I'll get the update right away. There is a gap in the consistency in when you're notified about your dog leaving the whistle zone.
The Tracker is great. I had a problem with the first one we had and the customer service was great as well. They couldn't fix it over the phone, so they sent me a new one. So far it's working great. I would recommend it to anyone. You could even somehow attach it to a child's belt, backpack or car in case it gets stolen. It would be great for them to create a smaller one and figure a way to attach it to a child so it's not so visible.
Still no option to tell the app that the pet has left the area. It's pretty rare to lose my dog when we are outside of the zone together, and it takes 10 to 15 minutes for whistle to recognize out of zone. No tracking available until dog leaves zone.
Unit will no longer charge. When it did work, the pet had to get about a block from the house before sending an alert. Unless you put this on a turtle, it probably wouldn't be much help in finding a pet on the lam.
App says device is charged but just keeps saying CANNOT LOCATE. When I tried to call I presses 8 for "emergency" service I was kept on hold for 5 full minutes. I redial ed and tried for technical support. Was kept on hold 7 minutes. When I tried to email using their web form, site just kept saying OOPS SOMETHING WENT WRONG.
I've had this tracker for a few weeks now. It gives you an idea of where your dog is, but unless your dog stops running and gets interested in something you're only chasing their fuzzy butt. If it is possible to increase the ping rate the collar puts out while tracking so you can get closer to live updates.
I've had this for a week now and have been wearing the tracker myself before trusting it on my dog, so far the most accurate location has been delayed by an hour. I set up the safe zone, which doesn't go very big at all, and once I leave the safe zone, it takes more then an hour to get a notification that I have left the zone. The activity monitor is also behind constantly by 4 hours. This is not a product worth buying or trusting to find you dog. I also live out in the country, not in a city.
We bought this on sale for while traveling as a "just in case" locator. It has been wonderful for not only traveling but everyday use as well. The app is great and very user friendly. The Whistle staff I'd very thorough too. We had a small issue with it not charging when we first got it and they worked diligently to make sure everything was working properly and that we would have the product the way it should be. I highly suggest this to anyone looking for a GPS tracker.
Only worked for a few months. When it did it was OK. Slightly faster than the Garmin unit that is discontinued. I'm talking about the GPS. That app also sucks because it has all this "pet exercise" crap in it. Its only real function is to tell you where your dog is, yet it is bloated with so much marketing garbage that it will make you nauseous.
I am very pleased with the device and the app but i do have a little issue i encountered. While i was out of state with my dog and her device i left the marked zone on our house so i got updates that she had "left" her whistle zone wich is obviously ok but then i was also getting ones saying she was back in the zone too then out again like 3 times even though we are both out of state. Its not a big deal but i would very much lile to see this fixed other than that im enjoying the product.
I spent allot of money on the data plan, the collar is affordable but all in close to $200. It simply does not work. The agent had a difficult time getting the collar to activate, and it is activated. My son took him on a 30 minute walk and it never alerted me he was out of the yard. Really disappointing so far.
Reading reviews I was worried this would be trash but after talking to customer service to get a better understanding of how Whistle works and being able to test it out several times the past couple weeks I am quite pleased with it. I have a coon hound mix that likes to run around the woods for several hours at a time and this gives me peace of mind being able to make sure he stays close to the house. The app has a lot of features however that I can't imagine ever being truly useful for anyone.
Often tells me it has fallen off my dog when it is on him just fine. Tells me he is gone when he is right next to me at timea. HATE the social and fitness stuff. Just need to be able to find my dog if necessary. New company customer support not as nice as when it was Tagg.
With the GPS subscription we need real time updates or something better than 2 or 4 minutes. If you are trying to locate a moving target current status is vital. Golf GPS works better. It's possible. Please advise when it's up to speed. Otherwise good.
Buggy app. Horrible customer service. +1 star as the product was pretty good when it actually worked. The tracker broke multiple times, each time required dealing with Whistle's customer service. Be prepared to jump through multiple hoops and spend untold hours trying to satisfy their demands. I finally gave up and am going to try a different device.
The product effectiveness has definitely decreased since being taken over from Tagg to Whistle. Some kind of software glitch on their part and I constantly, to the tune of about 20 notifications per day, that collar is detached, dog has left zone, back at zone, when in fact dog is at home. We cannot come to a fix and Im totally frustrated as I have 3 dogs with GPS trackers......
This app has definitely changed my life and my dog's life for the better! He was always running away from me in the woods and I never knew where he was and it was stressful for both of us. Between this and a buzz collar we are getting better at being buddies. I only wish that when you put it on track mode that it would update faster than every 3 minutes. When you're looking for your dog especially during hunting season, 3 minutes seems like an eternity.
My old dog has gone blind but still has an excellent nose which he follows regularly. The Whistle tracker means no more trying to figure out which direction he has gone this time. I love the alerts and activity tracker.
No way to set map as default page, at least ill see my dogs activity stats go up as hes running free while i have to switch my view from nonesense to whats REALLY important!!!!! Continues to get worse. I have two of these devices. One is constantly telling me it's out of the zone even when it's charging in its docking station. Look elsewhere for your tracking needs if you actual care about finding your dog. As I update my comments it says my one dog is out of the zone when they're both sitting with me.
It seems the previous version was better. I'm getting false alerts and the battery is very weak and needs to be charged often. I also emailed customer support twice and received only a generic reply that they have received my inquiry.
Needs to update activity and map location on demand better. Activity only updates a couple times a day or when he leaves his zone. Also map data is old, shows a vacant lot where there have been houses for several years... So needs some improvements although I doubt anyone is working on them. I am returning my whistle after issues with connection, updating, and battery within the thirty day guarantee period.
A good product when it works. Notifications on previous model unreliable: Shelby would get loose and run, I would activate the tracker, would get an email or text message that the tracker had turned off. No such prior notification had been sent. That one finally quit working. Got the new one. Setting the home zone ridiculously difficult. Messed with it for 10 minutes. The smallest home zone I can get is 200 yd diam., not useful.
This device worked fine at first. After I'd had it a few months the battery notifications were incorrect. It would stick on a certain level but the actual charge was far less than what it said. This is dangerous if you are relying on what the app is telling you. I reached out to customer service about this issue in October, again in December. They did a temporary fix and when the problem continued, they refused to replace it claiming I was 3 weeks out of warranty. Nice stalling job!
I live on a large ranch. My two young dogs are explorers and would love visit neighbors. I would spend hours searching for them. Now, when they begin to wander off, I get an alert and call for them before they get too far. Great piece of gear. Thanks.
We love this, and 99% of the time this has worked perfectly. Twice there have been glitches where it thinks our dog is outside the zone, and then a minute later, she's back in. Very user friendly.

I love knowing how active my dog is, what times he is most active, and make plans for his health and fitness based off that. Nothing compares to the peace of mind I have knowing that I can find him again should he go off on an adventure on his own, either. Easy app to use, recommended.
