The App comes with detailed information and pictures of more than 2.600 whiskies (bourbon, rye, malts, single malt, cask strength, blended, vatted etc.) from 273 distilleries in 21 countries including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United States and Wales.
The pre-loaded data for whiskies (Name, Age, Vintage, Bottling year, Alcohol strength, Bottler, Cask Type, Cask Number, Bottle Number, Bottle Size, Chill Filtered) and distilleries (Country, Region, Status, Visitor Center, Classification, Water source, Capacity, Stills, Founded, Owner, Address, Map location, Tel, Email, Web address) can easily be changed, or you can also create new whiskies and distilleries including your own pictures. Clicking on a picture of a distillery or a whisky will maximize the picture size.
You can share your distillery and whisky information with other. Users can create accounts on WhiskyCompanion's network server for **FREE**, and then upload their own distilleries and whiskies. After approval of uploaded material, can uploaded distilleries and whiskies be searched and downloaded by other users.
The app has a **FREE** cloud backup feature that allows users to backup and restore all personal distillery visit notes, whiskies, tasting notes, etc. to WhiskyCompanion's network server.
As more data (content) is published, new countries, distilleries and whiskies can be downloaded to the app's database. These updates will not affect your user data in the database.
Notes from distillery visits can be added to each distillery, and detailed comments and tasting notes (Rating, Colour, Nose, Palate, Body, Finish) may be added to a whisky. All distilleries visited and whiskies tasted will then be available in the “My Whiskies” section, which also includes a wish-list functionality.
Most of the distilleries have map-location for integration with Google Map. When clicking on a distillery location, Map will launch, and this can be switched to Street-View. It is then possible to virtually walk around the distillery.
You can create your own tasting event with picture and key information. Then you can link whiskies to the event and add your tasting notes to those whiskies.
The app also has a zoomable flavour map that shows a high level indication of many distilleries tasting character. The four directions are Light, Rich, Delicate and Smoky.
After installation of the App, the database should be downloaded over a network connection as the database is around 47 MB.

I like the idea of the programme but have lost my database for the second time. On both occasions I reloaded and of course lost all my own data. Most frustrating! Where is the database stored and what is the file name? Can it be backed up so if there is an issue with it, it can be reloaded?

There's a massive database of whiskies and distilleries, but it seems there are far more whiskies than reviews from the community. And even some very popular well distributed whiskies are missing reviews which is quite disappointing. Lots of room to make your own notes, but I was hoping for much more opinion on whiskies

This is my second review. I cannot find the first one. (!?) I purchased Whisky Companion and found that my first two whiskies (Jura Elixir and Bulleit Bourbon) were not in the database. I asked Whisky Companion if refund is possible. I've got the answer that I should read help. After reading help, I learned that my whiskies can be found on the social network, not in database. I asked again about refund. Let me paste the answer from Jan "If you remove your comment and rating on Google Play, I will give you a full refund and the app will be uninstalled by Google." Hope this review is helpful. Google Play, why my original review and replay to it disappeared? After 2 weeks since uninstall no refund, because I have not removed low rated review. Be warned!

I recently purchased this app prior to going on a whisky tasting trip with hopes of electronically logging my tastes. I should have been more weary when it didn't even have some whiskeys readily available at any liquor store. I held out hope that the database would feature more rare or sought after pours; I was very wrong. The interface is easy to use but the database is lacking. Don't waste your money. Great idea, not quite there yet.

What can I say, I love this app! I was looking for something to track my collection so that I would know what to repurchase when I went to the store but this is so much more it is kind of like wanting a tablet to surf with and than finding out all the other things it can do and spending the rest of your life playing with it :) The database alone is incredibly complete and the ability to search by all kinds of types makes mining the database easy and straight forward. You can also add and share your own entries. Entry of info is easy enough but I have a rather extensive collection and found entry via my phone was getting a bit long so I contacted the developer to see if there might be an easier way to incorporate my collection and notes. He was more than helpful and incredibly responsive to my requests. All in all, this is the best app I have :) CHEERS.

Yesterday I decided to compact my database, It crashed and corrupted the database, or at least it reported no database installed or corrupt. I had to download the database again, needless to say, I lost all my whiskies, and notes, as I had not backed them up to the network. Can it be backed up to SD Card? Edit, just found out how to backup to SD Card.

The app provides nice information about some Whiskys, unfortunately by far not for all of them. Also the app does just not look very polished. It's basically a bunch of unsexy lists. I would not say anything if it was free, but I definitely expect more for that price. The flavor map is just an image, you can not even click on the names. There are no visible community comments on Whiskies or distilleries. Looks like the app need a lot of work before I can give it 5 stars.

The punt for the app is compelling but the archiving of ones whiskys is a tedious process when some of the dropdowns dont work and then you cannot save the data so tediously entered. Whizzky at least identifies the whisky for you. Not sure if this app does but 60 bucks has been wasted. Maybe its just the Android platform but I still feel shortchanged...things must work first time when you pay good money for them...end of story.
