iBird United Kingdom Pro for Android
Loved the app, with the only shortcoming that there are few female photos and/or descriptions. Best of all, it's on the SD card, and I can look even though I have no internet coverage.
Unfortunately there is still no Great white egret which are far more common nowadays then other species they've featured - (it appears that their status information is now out of date). But still a fantastic app and well recommended with excellent photos and illustrations. The layout is easy enough to follow along with the illustrations and maps (although some essential angles are missing such as the goshawk from below). Certainly one of the better bird apps available but, now that the new Collins app is now out, unfortunately that means that it has now overtaken this app and is the new the benchmark for bird apps. This also means this app will now sadly lack behind its rival until I see ALL the ESSENTIAL species with angles.
Far exceeded my expectations. This app provides a massive amount of well-organized information on the birds of the British Isles. I'll be birding in the U.K. for the first time this summer, and this app was worth every penny for the amount of preparation I've been able to do using it. I'd like to offer three suggestions that would make it even more awesome. First, it would be wonderful to be able to organize a favorites list in an order other than alphabetical. I've made a favorites list of the birds I'm likely to see in the area I'm visiting and would like to sort them into taxonomic order, but am not given that option. Second, more information and images of females in sexually dimorphic species would be helpful. Third, being able to listen to songs and calls while looking at images or reading text would add so much to the user's experience. Being able to link those sounds with an image or a description of a particular field mark or identifying behavior helps a lot when trying to learn new birds. Thus far, the Merlin app from Cornell is the only birding app I've used that offered this particular feature. Still fantastic overall!
Best android Bird guide so far. Good identification highlights. But strange absence of female pictures, and species coverage is still limited even for UK. More continental European birds would also be good.
After downloading for offline use Flight I.D missing for Sparrowhawk. Have not gone through whole app yet. Overall a good app
Love it I'm new to bird watching so have a lot to learn have used it off line out in the field it's great
As an ex iPhone user, I've been eagerly waiting for this on android. so happy it's here now
A wonderful app which seems to update with more features quite often...Keep it up guy's
Would be good if you could log birds you've spotted on the app.
Good but the birds around you function wouldn't download
Great app, lots of info and also sounds
Splendid - for what I need.
Great App
all good
The reason I installed this app is that the data can be installed on my SD card. The guide needs to be available without internet connection to be useful in the field. The ability to search for birds using colour, wing shape, habitat and many other features came as a pleasant surprise. The pictures and sound clips are good with a useful distribution map and sufficient information for each bird. I am pleased I installed this and regard it as good value.
A brilliant app for a beginner/intermediate birder who needs to check if they got their birds right in the field. After you download the app on your phone it doesn't require a connection to work, therefore you can check your birds anywhere and any time. I would definitely recommend this app!
Would be better if it was more up to date with some of the newer birds that have started breeding in UK for the last 6 years. Also some of the rarer species aren't on here either
Love the illustrations. Also impressed by all the extra facts and info. I agree that more species would be welcome but I certainly think all the realistically viewable spiecies are available. The best bird app I've found on android, it actually has some things better than the Collins bird guide in my opinion.
If you could also use this like warblr it would be perfect BUT really enjoying the app on walks with my family. FAB.
Very Happy with the app. The bird songs are very clear, glad I moved from RSPB app.
Absolutely fantastic. Really useful field app that you can adapt to your own needs.
Exactly what I ve been looking for to build up my forgotten knowledge from my youth while enjoying the great outdoors ????????
Well worth the money and probably the only birding app you'll ever need.
Only app I ever use now. EXCELLENT!
Enjoy it's layout, good illustrations and sounds
Seems good although some notable species missing and also some winter plumage plates for some species seem to be missing. Although usually there are photos of the winter plumage birds.
Overall a fantastic app with excellent photos and illustrations. The layout is fantastic and very easy to use and smooth to operate. This app has been very well put together! So why 4 stars? This is because dispite using illustrations, this app doesn't show all the most likely positions they are seen (classic example is the goshawk- there are no pictures showing the markings of flight underneath which is the mort likely way one is to see them). Also a few regular species are missing, such as the great white egret and the cattle egret which are far more common then night or squacco heron. Sort these issues out and I can rate this 5.
I am a long time user of the North America app, and the authors have translated all those great features into this UK app. I have used many different apps and have found this interface and format to be the easiest and quickest to use for bird identification, and deep-digging on a particular species. Highly recommended.
This is a great birding app if you are going to, or live in the UK or Ireland. It has lots of pictures, as well as drawings, and very good bird sounds, as well as descriptions , range maps and pretty much everything you would want in a bird app. The bird sounds can be a clincher for identifying a bird. This is a Very useful and fun and educational app, I recommend it!
Used this app for a few years on iPhone and I'm so happy it's now on Android. You will not need another birding app. Im sure everyone has diffrrent needs for bird apps but this will tick more boxes than any other app. Happy birder now :)
This is a very good app. Very easy to use, excellent pictures and sound. The distribution maps are particularly good. The best bird watching app I have used!
Leave your pocket guide at home, easy to use with all the info you need.

The best birding app I have found so far. The ability to vary the presentation format and filter searches and browsing anyway you want is very useful. Most importantly, you can download all the content to your ext SD card so you can actually use it outdoors with or without mobile signal. Worth the money.
