I've had this app for a while andon previous reviews rated it one star. because ofthe difficulty of downloading the database over again. However ,now they have made the database update optional and added "birds near me" feature. I must say it's hard to imagine it being a better app. Nice job folks

A new update that requires a new download of the database. Did all that and nothing works. This version doesn't work offline or online. All I get is a white screen. This developer seems to screw everything up with each update, then scrambles for the next week or so trying to figure out what they screwed up. New version is also extremely slow an unresponsive. Freezes every time I try to use it. Uninstall/reinstall and re-download database doesn't help any of the problems. And they want more money for the new "features." Hint: Since you don't seem to know what you're doing then leave the app alone.

Ibird pro wasn't the first bird app I tried. After using the free version I stepped up to the Pro version and downloaded over 900 species. Before this I never went on a vacation without taking along a bird book.... or two or three. Now I rely totally on I bird pro and it never lets me down. I carry binoculars in my car at all times... and when waiting to meet people... or when just stuck with some down time... I'll break out my smartphone... fire up the app and start searching around for any birds present. The photos are excellent and my favorite is the Sounds feature. The search function is an incredible tool in identifying new species that you are not familiar with. I love this app... and look forward to "Birds around me"

This is, without a doubt, the BEST birding app, especially for the field. The pictures and drawings are superb. The sound recordings are the most extensive anywhere, almost too confusing because of the number and variety of different vocalizations per species. You can use it offline, in the middle of nowhere, with no cell reception. Btw, I use it on my Samsung Galaxy S6 and now S8. I have had no problems with it. I uninstalled the old version and installed the new app and database onto my phone with no problems. I have been birding for 47 years, and this has revolutionized birding! It really helps with identification. I am so happy I found this!!

Can't get offline database to work, despite multiple tries. And now it runs super super slow, making it basically useless UPDATE: Thanks! I should have contacted you first, I apologize. It works now, and it's great. I updated my star rating, love the app.

Still breaking my database link on updates forcing me to reload it. Went birding in a forest reserve in Hawaii and no iBird app to use. The best bird app when it works but it's a good idea to have another back up bird app when you are out and about.

I like this app very much. The last update was a problem. It downloaded over a Gigabyte of data but failed to work. Would not work in airplane mode and only a white screen when airplane mode was turned off. I uninstalled and redownloaded 3 times with the same results. My phone is a Nexus 6P. Now here's the good part. I decided to reboot the phone and everything works great. Very responsive. Hope this helps others with the same experience that I had.

I love this app, I wish there was an option to only download the pieces you need. I have no expandable memory and I can't get it to open.

S70%
by S####:

Of the few serious birding apps, this used to be the best, the quickest most nimble. But as features were added it now constantly stops and must be restarted each time. Reinstalling does not fix which forces me to use other birding apps. Updated: with each update this app continues to become less useful in the field. In their attempt to tie the app to the internet they make it worse. No matter how many times the app is uninstalled/reinstalled and data AGAIN downloaded the app malfunctions. Too bad the developers couldn't quit while they were ahead.

We've tried most Birding field guide type apps. This is by far the best. We carry this on our phones now, rather than drag heavy bulky paper guides to the field. Photos, illustrations, sounds all good.

Re to dev: it's not just me, you seem to have a number of 1 stars for this update. I am a developer, there are better and less intrusive ways to protect downloads. The new data download is poorly designed and does not work. Having to login with Google to download is stupid and unnecessary. The touch event registration in the search feature is slow, it takes at least 3 seconds to check an item that you touch. You use to be able to fast scroll through the list of birds by running your finger over the letters on the right side, this functionality seems to have been removed. The old design may have been dated, but the new design is ugly. The data at the core of the app is still good if you can get it to download.

I love the birdsong feature. I've used iBird for quite a while. The pictures are great, the search feature helpful, and it's so portable. I download the database so I can use it wherever. But since birdsong is so challenging for me, I especially love the songs.

New update sucks!!! Off-line database is broken! I was finally able to make the last update version work. It was a true trial of my patience. First I will chronicle some of my failures. After the update I downloaded the DB as soon as I was notified I needed to do so. The download reported that it succeeded. But When I tried to access the data for any bird the program would hang forever with a busy indicator. I tried to download again but was presented only a "delete data" option that came back again and again after I accepted it. To succeed: I uninstalled iBird, re-installed it, and downloaded the DB again. But this time I made sure that iBird was not running when the download completed. I doubt that this was necessary but that is what I did. After that I went to the "More" menu and mounted the DB - (even though I have no option for an SD card in my Nexus 5X) Now iBird works as expected when in Airplane mode with WiFi turned off. I want to be clear that I love the iBird application. But I stand by the assessment that this update sucks. I have been downloading the offline DB since it was first necessary. While inconvenient, it worked without a hitch. But not this time.

Ibird has the most beautiful illustrations hands down. Also love the "Facts" section. With the inclusion of BAM you are the best birding app for Android.

This was a great App before they went to a cloud based system. No w it is TOTALLY non functional on my Pixel phone. I he'd to buy another app to use and I feel they should refund my purchase price.

This app is nothing short of amazing. This is the best app on our phones and tablet-hands down. We reach for our phones before we consult any of the well-respected field guides we have. Thank you for thi see app. Keep it up!

Update doesn't work. Will not download. Don't pay for this BS.

U70%

Android support has been very, very slow. The developer is an apple fan. Their describing it as "including Birds Around Me" is misleading. It does not. It ALLOWS you to PURCHASE that, at extra cost. Android users should not hold their breath for features long a part of the apple version of this product, nor hope for the same features to be eventually included without an extra charge. Finally being given the option of downloading database to SD card is good. It has lots of bells and whistles, but I'll see if this app has yet improved enough for me to find it useful. Recently having the offline database vanish due to a program bug wasn't a good thing. Due to usability problems with it, I've been exclusively using the excellent Sibley Birds of North America app. To Dev: It's good you edited your response from, "Your (sic) so wrong", since you STILL have in your product description, "Now includes Birds Around Me." WITHOUT MENTIONING THAT IT IS NOT INCLUDED, BUT INSTEAD AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AT EXTRA COST.. The disappearing database was indeed a problem. Slow support for Android has been the case. Those three points in my review are not "so wrong." I don't rate based others' ratings.

Top notch bird app. Best one available. Only one improvement could be made. It would be fantastic if the bird calls could be used as ringtones, etc.
