About DragonBox Algebra 5+

DragonBox Algebra 5+ - The game that secretly teaches algebra

DragonBox Algebra 5+ Is perfect for giving young children a head start in mathematics and algebra. Children as young as five can easily begin to grasp the basic processes involved in solving linear equations without even realising that they are learning. The game is intuitive, engaging and fun, allowing anyone to learn the basics of algebra at his or her own pace.

DragonBox Algebra 5+ covers the following algebraic concepts:

* Addition
* Division
* Multiplication

Suitable from age five and up, DragonBox Algebra 5+ gives young learners the opportunity to get familiar with the basics of equation solving.

DragonBox uses a novel pedagogical method based on discovery and experimentation. Players learn how to solve equations in a playful and colorfull game environment where they are encouraged to experiment and be creative. By manipulating cards and trying to isolate the DragonBox on one side of the game board, the player gradually learns the operations required to isolate X on one side of an equation. Little by little, the cards are replaced with numbers and variables, revealing the addition, division and multiplication operators the player has been learning throughout the game.

Playing does not require supervision, although parents can assist them in transferring learned skills into pen and paper equation solving. It is a great game for parents to play with their kids and can even give them an opportunity to freshen up their own math skills.

DragonBox was developed by former math teacher Jean-Baptiste Huynh and has been heralded as a perfect example of game-based learning. As a result, it is currently forming the basis of an extensive research project by the Center For Game Science at the University of Washington.

Evil characters and monsters, girls do not like this, this app is made for boys. It's a very dark application and really takes away from the brilliance of the function of the app. Should have a friendly happy option for girls with happy avatars and grow something happy like a unicorn with accessories that girls want to see. My daughter likes the game play but complains about she doesn't like the monsters so she doesn't want to play. Noticed all good reviews were about their BOY loving the game. I would give 5 stars if it was friendly so she desires to play, isn't that the point?

As a former math teacher and a current homeschool teaching dad of three children, this game is outstanding! For anyone with a solid algebra background, it's easy to see the underlying math concepts from the earliest moments in the game. For everyone else, you just learn to play the game even though you may be unaware that you are balancing an algebraic equation each time. You just need to substitute numbers and variables in for the characters and there you have it. Brilliant! My children ages 8, 9 and 11 love it.

Games App developers need to incorporate much better practices when requiring unreasonable permissions - link with permissions explained one by one is a standard common practice now so why not do that +WeWantToKnow AS? Until I know why Dragon Box requires access to phonecalls I am not updating. Better would be to drop these requirements altogether as what does a game need to know about my phone stuff? #android #paranoid #developers #commonsense

My two boys DEVOURED this game and still continue to play it over and over. I just discovered that there are more Dragon Box games and they are excited to get their hands on them. Great job guys!

Went thru the first 2 worlds and it was pretty dumb. My daughter got bored and she couldn't relate it to math. Maybe you should try to use numbers in the beginning so she could see a point to this. Another reason to use numbers is because it is math and math uses numbers. I know that sounds weird but it is true

Fantastic game for getting kids to understand equations and algebra. My daughter has been using it for a year (she is in first grade) and she has learned alot.

At first I was hesitant to introduce this to my 6 year old daughter, thinking she would get frustrated ave give up on it quickly, but just the opposite happened! The progression of the levels is well designed so she barely even notices the increase in difficulty and wasn't disheartened at all when the monster pictures turned into numbers and variables. She absolutely devoured the app and beat the game, bonus levels and all, with 3 stars on all levels, in 2 days. She's looking forward to getting her next app as a reward. (Any suggestions on which one it should be? ) I'd usually balk at the cost, but I think the app is well worth the price. Thank you!

My son enjoyed it and mastered all 5 levels, but was disappointed that there were no more levels. ☺

Great job guys, I am really impressed.My 6 years old enjoyed it so much and I feel that he learned a lot as well.Very well made and extremely useful.I just discovered the bonus levels,he will be so pleased :-).We will definitely purchase the other games too.Thank you very much.

Was amazed watching my five-year-old son figure out the problems. And while it would be a stretch to say he "knows the basics of algebra," he certainly has a grasp of how numbers interact. Would like to see them add more problems where you are truly solving for X where the answer is an integer, rather than problems that end up with groupings of letters and numbers. Also, if you end up on one side of the equation with something like 5.3, that it comes up 15. Showing the product like it does with addition and subtraction. On to DragonBox Elements...

This helped me learn the basics is algebra and do problems I wouldn't even imagine being able to do without the help of this app. I failed algebra in high school poorly. If I had this app I most certainly kno.w I would have gotten an A. I recommend to anyone with children or any adult who just wants to brush up on their math skills! Only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because if you're stuck in in a level your just stuck. Wish there was a way for help

Dragonbox Algebra is an awesome app for kids! It's fun while giving kids a deep intuition for maths. I've seen 5-year-olds fearlessly tackle problems that we didn't see until high school. I wish I'd learnt maths this way!

The greatest ever. I'd buy stock. You are secretly learning algebra without realizing it's educational.. Just do it. Skip the trial since you'll have to repeat the levels when you buy the real one...and you WILL buy it. It's just that good. Bought it to brush up before my kindergartener gets to algebra, and not only is it reteaching me, it's teaching him too, and it's reframing a subject I've hated and made me become an algebra game addict. Kids week learn to love algebra way before school gets to make him hate it. My only COMPLAINT is that the opposite/night cards don't look opposite enough. They should be more obviously the same thing, just negative. As it is, it took awhile for us to always see the correct opposite card. But the whole series is fab. We just bought the new numbers game, way below algebra, but still cool.

It would be very useful to have suggestions/hints for those puzzles which children cannot solve so they can continue. Is there a reason this is not available?

Truly great app. I installed this for my four and a half year old several months back. He worked his way through it almost compulsively. I think the dragons emerging from eggs is truly something that appeals to this sort of age range (or at least my son). By the end he managed to do an equation that I couldn´t do. And I have a phd in cognitive science? (although haven´t really done any equation solving for years before playing with this). The game itself is brilliantly designed. A classic in introducing complex concepts in simple visual ways. I think that properly this would be better for a slightly older child as it would be good for them to have some school experience to place what they have been learning in context. That said there is enough fun here to just let them fly at it. Well done dragon box. Just considering now when to have a go with elements.
