About DragonBox Algebra 12+

DragonBox Algebra 12+ is a must-have tool for students so they can earn better grades and gain confidence in algebra and mathematics. It is based on the award winning game DragonBox Algebra 5+ but covers more advanced topics in mathematics and algebra:

* Parentheses
* Positive and Negative signs
* Addition of Fractions (Common Denominators)
* Collection of Like Terms
* Factorization
* Substitution

DragonBox Algebra 12+ gives players a greater understanding of what mathematics is all about: objects and the relationships between objects.

This educational game targets children from the ages of 12 to 17 but children (or adults) of all ages can enjoy it. Playing doesn’t require supervision, although parents can enjoy playing along with their children and maybe even freshen up their own math skills.

DragonBox Algebra 12+ introduces all these elements in a playful and colorful world appealing to all ages.

The player learns at his/her own pace by experimenting with rules that are introduced gradually. Progress is illustrated with the birth and growth of a dragon for each new chapter.

Dr. Patrick Marchal, Ph.D. in cognitive science, and Jean-Baptiste Huynh, a high school teacher, created DragonBox Algebra 12+ as an intuitive, interative and efficient way to learn algebra.

DragonBox Algebra 12+ is based on a novel pedagogical method developed in Norway that focuses on discovery and experimentation. Players receive instant feedback which differs from the traditional classroom setting where students can wait weeks for feedback. DragonBox Algebra 12+ creates an environment for kids where they can learn, enjoy and appreciate math.

Our previous educational game, DragonBox Algebra 5+ has received many distinctions including the Gold Medal of the 2012 Serious Play Award (USA), the Best Serious game at Bilbao´s Fun and Serious Game Festival and the Best Serious Game at the 2013 International Mobile Gaming Awards. It is also recommended by Common Sense Media where it won the Learn ON award.

Features
* 20 progressive chapters (10 learning, 10 training)
* 357 puzzles
* Basic algebraic rules with which the child can experiment
* A focus on minimal instruction encourages creativity and experimentation from the player
* Multiple profiles for easy progress control
* Dedicated graphics and music for each chapter
* Multiple supported languages (English, français, norsk, svenska, dansk, español, 한국어, italiano, português, Deutsch, русский, 简体中文, 繁體中文, suomi, Nederlands, Eesti, Euskara, Türkçe...)

I'm enrolled in computer science after being out of school for 12 years, I bombed my math placement test and was going to need to take developmental courses to get back on track. I wanted to give the placement test another shot and was looking for study aids when I came across this app, there were a lot of good reviews and I figured it was worth a try for a few bucks and I just have to say wow! This app is an amazing learning tool, it helped me understand algebra in a way I never learned in school. I spent an evening with the game, it only took a few hours to get through, I then took a random math test to re-familiarize myself with terminology and non-algebraic stuff. I took the placement test again and this time tested right into the class I need! This is an incredible app and I really can't say enough about it, I wish I had grown up at a time where tools like this were available.

I had fun with this but my 4 year old is obsessed with this game. Of course, he has no idea what he's doing and for the harder levels, he just watched the playback... But he scoffs at the easy ones on Side B now. You've made a great game! We'd love some more worlds to go through.

It's good but think should do characters to start with. Can see what your thought process is introducing people into algebra, but alpha numeric would be good a bit more early on. This app, brilliant idea.

Just a fantastic way to learn algebra. Totally engaging. One note is there's very little reason for the 5+ to exist. The 12+ starts in the same place, it just has more levels.

Wish I had this back in my day - I've learnt more doing this now with my daughter than I learned in school over that 4 or 5 years on how to rearrange equations

Clever use of gaming for learning. I wish more computer based learning could be this innovative. It is a lot of fun, & children love it.

Learning maths can be fun

Q70%
by Q####:

The objective is to isolate the box. I isolate the box and then it says "yuck" about an aspect of how I isolated the box. But it doesn't explain why it's "yuck"? I isolated the box as it said so why do I get a yuck? Should the objective be changed to isolate the box in the best way or something? What's the best way ? The game doesn't explain that. Lost with maths again.

I have worked as an adult educator and with year 9 to 12 maths students. This is an exceptional app for teaching and learning transposition. The free version can be used as the best homework ever. Graphical and clever, it makes the learning fun. A puzzle with carefully introduced tools. More importantly it teaches algebra how students learn algebra, building on their basic understanding of shapes and objects, and how they relate to formulas student's intuitively use (rather than the annoying context teaching). Pros: Beautiful Progressive with simple steps Free Cons: Can't see any

V70%
by V####:

The game is broken. It prompts you for feedback after each level, even if you already answered. And then the feedback prompt leaves behind artifacts in the game. This is a paid app, and not cheap one. It shouldn't have annoying popups.

My nine year old put down his DS to play this game. He is entranced.

Love the game, it makes learning algebra super easy and fun for kids. I'm not giving 5 stars though because after each world I beat a pop up asks if I want to leave feedback and no matter how I answer the pop up doesn't go away and blocks me from being able to see the game as I play unless I exit completely and then go back in.

O70%
by O####:

Love everything about the game. But I hate writing reviews. So since it is making me do this, so I am giving it 3 stars.

Fantastic app but they lost a point for being overly insistent that I rate the app. Jeeze, lemme just use what I paid for a little while then bug me.

i am 42 but didn't do algebra. so i completed all levels of 12+ dragon box. i still don't know what i was doing 90% of the time and have no idea how to apply it to an algebra sum on paper. :-/ great fun and i would still recommend it for kids who might be learning algebra at same time so may make more sense.

N70%

By far one of the best games/learning tools of our era...Getting into the game is easy for anyone of any ages; if you think you're above using dragons and crickets to gain a firm understanding of algebra....go back to crushing jelly beans and candy wrappers I guess...This games simple, yet elegant abstraction of algebra quickly leaves you doing real equations in under 2-3 sittings with ease. The game also challenges you to make the fewest moves possible; encouraging good practices for verbosity. Get this!
