About BMX Gear Ratio Calculator

Fine tune your BMX gearing, and experiment with different chainring and sprocket combinations for optimum performance.

This handy and easy to use app enables you to calculate the gear ratio, in standard gear inches, for any given chainring, rear sprocket, and rear wheel and tyre size combinations. It also lets you see which other chainring and sprocket size combinations come closest for all the different chainring sizes listed (20T to 49T), making comparisons of different set ups a piece of cake and giving you valuable insight into the impact of different configurations.

Every other gear ratio chart reads one thing while the app reads another. For instance : on the app a 20" x 1 3/8" tire = 46.82. However, every other chart you read = 52.5? I tried the math myself a got even more confused.

while the alternative gearing is a huge step forward, the lack of specific wheel size entry wont allow me to use it effectively. NOTE TO PROGRAMER! NOT all tires of the same size are the same diameter. Take for instance this, the tire I am working with is a 20x1/18" Tioga PowerBlock, this tire is not even close to the diameter in the program. This tire works out to dia 20.11 and when I do the math manually on a 40x15 gear it works out to: 53.63 but this gearCalc punts out 48.49 best forget it...
