NOAA Hi-Def Radar for Android
Radar had large gaps in it. Radar images would go away when the loop was paused. It was actively storming on me and the radar showed the only rain was several miles south of my location. Stick with Radar Express or the Weather Underground app. Would get a refund if I could. This is on a brand new Google Pixel even.
Have relied on this app for weather info for 3 years. Still labeled "No risk" by Norton, something few well-rated apps can claim now. Includes NWS analysis through the Area Weather Discussion. A layer showing current weather systems would be better than no barometric info at all.
Obviously NOAA are paying for reviews. This app is worthless and is inaccurate most of the time. Temps do not load. You can only see weather in the America's. There have been NO updates and the functionality is bland. I prefer to use the free version of weather bug.
Broke down and decided to pay for a radar app, saw this one had lightning strikes which is what I was looking for. App crashed constantly and there is such a gap in the radar images the loop jumps almost 40 min at a time. Wasted $3, it's past the refund time period. I've tried uninstalling, clearing cache and data And it still randomly crashes when trying to load the radar, I have a motor z force maybe it works better with other phones. Would not recommend to moto/Lenovo users
Extremely disappointed. For weather, it's a great app but I mainly purchased it because it is supposed to show locations where there are wild fires. I'm currently in a part of Montana where we have several large wild fires burning with local, state and federal fire crews and numerous helicopters flying back and forth with water buckets suspended but there is no indication of fires on the map. I have all the right "layers" selected. What gives?
The first sentence of this app reads "real time" radar. So I downloaded it. Several sentences later, it reads "near real time". Up to 8 minutes on the radar in my area. Not really much better than any other radar app, just meh. I'd rather have my money back.
I installed this app believing it would be as good as the iOS version. The same features such as storm track & fire reports are advertised. This version is poor. The radar images are blocky, & the advertised featured do not work. It was a total waste of money.
This thing is on point, the radar detects rain as green, snow as blue, has a legend, and can view weather everywhere across American territories, and everwhere that directly concerns the western hemisphere. Now I think it actually pulls up weather all over sphere so double check this. As far as installation, quick, also does not continue to run in background if stopped from settings to free up memory. It will stay active in background if needed. Case and point, it's live, and accurate in detail.
I am an avid weather person...storm spotter and chaser. This is one of the no nonsense radar apps there is. I love it. Gives you fast radar with lightning and warning boxes. I have a lot of radar/wx apps...some I've paid over $10.00 for and this one is probably my favorite now. Only thing lacking is it does not offer an option to display watch boxes and edit warning box colors.
Cryptic button labels, lack of instructions, and non- instantaneous support resulted in several hours to get this thing going, and it's still not set up very well. It looks like it might be pretty good. UPDATE: After becoming more familiar with this app I like it a lot.
I have an android phone and the app has some good features, however they dont always work. Usually have to close the app and try several times otherwise you're just going to see a map. Not even worth being a free app in my opinion.
I use this with other apps. I love how it shows warning and watches. We had a lot of tornadoes recently and this app along with the smartphone features when you need to take cover was helpful. We could monitor which way the tornadoes were going and when to take cover. By using this we could tell by zooming out to view more states if we were in for bad weather the next day or so. Absolutely a must for living in tornadoe alley.
I miss the feature where, when clicking on an arrow, it not only gives me the direction of the storm but also where the storm is in relation to me. Add that and I'll add a fifth star. Otherwise a very good app and user friendly radar.
No updates in over 2 years. No response from support team. Are they defunct? Regarding app - Misses light precip shown by other radars, jerky animation and storm tracks don't look directionaly accurate. Also support questions go unanswered. It is however a fast responding radar and lightning data seems spot on which is a real great feature .
Won't go to my location on opening How do I correct this? I paid for this app, can anyone tell me why when I open this app it goes to Africa, and how do I correctly cure this? I do not live in Africa. So far I am dissatisfied! When in the hell is someone going to help me?!!
I rely on the radar during work because I travel long distances, back and forth, all day. Would be AWESOME if it paired up with Ford SYNC so I didn't have to fiddle with it while driving (not a good idea anyway).
When it shows radar in motion, the increments aren't equal. The time between frames starts large but gets smaller, instead of being consistent. So, there are huge changes in the first couple of frames, then they get tiny. Other radar apps (free) are much smoother and have regular intervals between frames.
If you live in Tropical Hell (like me), or Hurricane or Tornado Alleys - this app is an almost inexhaustible (and indispensable) source of information and amusement. All the data you need to keep track of storm-cells, high rainfall and lightning areas, cloud-cover, barometric pressure, etc. NHC updates, geeky meteorological stuff - all there (save for the all-important ocean temperature readings [could just be my own ineptness]). Superb. Why this thing doesn't have downloads in the millions is beyond me.
The last several times I have opened this app, there have been large squares of blank area which never fill in. Also the sensitivity is too high on storm fronts and too low during periods of light sprinkles/drizzle. It would make you think a tornado was coming due to the dark red when it isn't that bad. When its sprinkling this radar shows nothing. Atlanta, Ga area. Going to go back to myradar.
But this Android version is too glitchy. More than half the time I have to exit the app before the radar will show. The settings change back EVERY time I start the app. I absolutely LOVED this on my Apple products. It was DEFINITELY the best weather app. But this version does not compare to the original. Hope they fix it soon.
After having this app on my iPhone, I wanted it for this phone. I have had this app for over 4 months now & I am disappointed with it. I have to repeatedly save my location, & when I do, it tries to set it in a completely different location than where I am, it does not tell you what to expect throughout the day (like the website & iPhone app), & it doesn't alert me to when there are alerts, warnings, or watches for my area like it's supposed to (& yes, I have it set to do that). Other than that, its good.
What a rip-off! I paid $2.99 for the app and it wants another $1.99 to remove the ads! I don't trust anything sold in such a deceptive manner... but I don't see how to return it within the 2 hour window it said I have. R I P - O F F
There are 2 features I would really enjoy. A map with graphics of ETA and path of projected storm path of cities that will be impacted. Also would love be able to save animated radar as a GIF and share with social media. Your Thoughts please
This is the exact same data most every TV and Radio station use to bring you the weather on your nightly news broadcast. The problem is, the TV and Radio stations massage the data to add their little spin to the raw data to sensationalize their broadcasts. If you would rather see the raw data and decide for yourself what the weather will be doing, get this app. It's great!
This is my go-to radar. Its fast, light, and accurate. For those looking for a detailed forecast, you may want to read the name of the app again. Sure, there is some very basic forecast data but that's not where it shines. But if you want to see local radar, warnings and storm tracks I highly recommend you give it a try.
Great app, would make it 5 stars if it had some widget options. *update - they tell me that there is a way to have a widget (I have not been able to figure it out as the instructions to do so seem impossible or wrong) don't know why you can't add a widget just like every other app, from the widget menu. Down to 3 stars until proper widget is added. Other than that good
This is the real deal NOAA app not some local yokel TV station. Gives up to the second Doppler radar anywhere, other apps just take NOAA images and post it on their site. This is direct from the source from the government weather gurus
What a totally useless app. It can be pouring rain here and the radar image shows no rain for hundreds of miles. Very difficult to update. I've had the same forecast for one set of days for weeks. This app will not update the forecast without having to shut the phone off. There has to be a better app
I bought this app thinking it was going to have the best animation loop, but it was totally the opposite. The transitions are not smoth, actually the animation loop is displayed in three frames only, so visually looks like the rain disappear from one area and then it is shown in another place on the map. You dont get the sense of movement. Please fix that and it will be the best weather app.
This app has a hard time finding my home area and will not open anywhere near that area. I do like the weather warning info.
I've had NOAA Hi-Def Radar for both Apple and Android, and it is my absolute go-to weather app. I blows all the others away...pun intended. It provides conditions as recent as 2 minutes and being in Kansas, the storm info feature is invaluable. I don't want all the fancy features of other apps. All I want is the info NOAA provides. This is indispensable to me.
Downloaded during major thunderstorms. Doesn't show lighting yet on mine. I do like the app though...better than most weather apps.
Great app. It would be nice if the lightning layer had the options for how far back you could see strikes. I think you can only see strikes as recent as 8 minutes ago. Up to twelve hours ago would be great!
Have requested help from support. Some features do not work correctly.
We use it at home and when traveling to avoid storms and foul weather. Even dodged around Tornado once last year. Greatful to have it to use.
No matter what I try, I can't get it to open up at my home location. Nothing shows up on the map. I want a refund!
The bad *Missing the ability to see a text format of Nws current weather conditions, special weather statements, watches, and warnings. The app also places my home location as the geographic center of the state, which is 175 miles from my home. Also it only shows about 1/4 of the lighting strikes that the iOS app does in a side by side comparison. The good *The radar itself works great, show timely accurate visuals and storm tracks. Displays up to date watches, and warnings. 5 star with minor improvements.
Forget about all of the weather reports in TV, which are wrong half of the time. If you want to see what lies ahead for the days weather just look at this radar screen. It is very accurate.
I live in the foothills of Montana's Elkhorn Mountains with five peaks near or over 9,000 feet. Higher than the nearby Continental Divide, the range generates its own unique weather patterns. Being able to actually see the radar returns is huge as the mountains prevent us viewing the extent of a given weather front. Having current information on the status of nearby wildfires can literally make the difference between life and death. This was the first app installed when I purchased this phone.
