After searching for a payphone to try this on, I finally found one (outside a martial arts studio, oddly). Needless to say, although the phone's automatic coin detector didn't work, the operator was instantly fooled! But then Sensei Doug, the store owner, started giving me snake eyes and I had to cut my call short, sadly.
