My Pilot buds came in today. The buds themselves are very good quality, one button for on, pair, answer calls ect. The charger is a nice touch and stores plenty of battery to recharge the buds many times. I had 5 stared this app but now its a 2 star, not because of the buds but because Waverly Labs never once told us we need a second phone to talk, i can pair with mine and the other bud starts up but when i go to conversion it requires a second phone that you then need to install the app, pair the second bud with and then there app can scan your apps QR code, after all that is done you can then talk and translate. So if they change the app so both can pair to one phone, or the main bud pairs to the phone and the second buds pairs to the main bud so there is only 1 phone needed then i will start to use them. But in my line of work have my customers do this is almost to a point rude. Now if you dont mind this issue then the buds are definitely going to impress you. So into the kitchen drawer the buds go intill such a time i only need one phone. I got my jopes up when i seen the firmware update, but nope you still need 2 phones.

NOT AN OLDER VERSION. LOOK AT THE REVIEW DATE. WHAT WAVERLY LABS DOESN'T TELL YOU IN THE ADVERTISING In order for the earpieces to translate a language, both parties must have a mobile phone and have the Pilot Translator app loaded on their phones. You then have to persuade the other party, who by the way speaks a different language to download the app, then they have to scan a code from your phone. You can't simply turn on the earpieces and begin hearing the other person in your chosen language. Had I known this, I wouldn't have wasted my money on the ear pieces. The app by itself (Which is free to download) works fine.

Dropping another star because of no response from developer and no fix to wrong language in phone. Please fix... ........... This rating is for the app only (ear buds not arrived yet). App works well. Perhaps it understands natural speech a little better than Google. Please fix the "English (Great Britain)" voices, they have American accents!!!

Google translate works better and didn't cost me hundreds of dollars. The ear buds needing 2 phones is ridiculous. Many places you travel people have no smart phone and certainly don't want to download an app. Very bad. They need to fix this.

Agree with most of the reviews that are complaining about the earbuds and the need for 2 phones. I tried this with a Mandarin speaking friend and it was ridiculously cumbersome to get setup. Having to use 2 phones is a deal breaker. You don't need that with Google Translate! After working with this for 20 minutes or so, it still would play through the phones more than the ear pieces. And only the right ear piece - we could never get the left one working even though it was fully charged and paired with the other phone. Volume control was an issue as well. She also said the Mandarin translations were pretty poor compared to Google. I have been so excited waiting so long for this - MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT.

Super bummed they never said you need to use 2 phones really? How ridiculous I was backer 7 I have travis it works way better. Tryed these with my wife and we found ourselves starring at our phones more than just listening. I like it does here around me. So please make these work for just listening for when I'm just shopping .without a second phone connected. All my wife did is complain to me to send them back for a refund please fix this Waverly please

The app it's self is good. However, the buds with the app needs some work. Have been testing my buds and you need to talk really loud in order for the buds to pick up your voice. Also, it will pick up random noice or words and translate it. I also dislike the fact you need the other person to have the app installed. You would think it would just go off of one phone. I know it is still being tested and figured out so hopefully they make some good changes

HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! I was one of the early supporters. I bought in a year or more ago. I was excited and eagerly awaiting this device's release. I was willing/hoping to pay a couple hundred dollars for a device that would actually be able to translate things being said to me or said near me in another language by "hearing" that other language and actually teanslating it so that I hear it in my own language. But what actually I paid a couple hundred dollars for turns out to only function as a mediocre sound quality wireless Bluetooth earpiece. A GOOD sound quality Bluetooth earpiece can be acquired for about $15. It does not seem to be able translate anything so far. It can allow me to hear youtube videos being played on my phone in Spanish with mediocre sound quality. But I don't speak Spanish. I want it to be able to translate the audio of the audio of a video to English as well as translate other languages spoken to me into English.

Very disappointed. Cannot use these buds as advertised. Why can't the app run on my phone only? Group conversation doesn't work at all. Tells me I'm not connected to the internet (both on Wi-Fi and 4G). Bogus.

I give it 3 Stars for 2 Reasons: 1. Overall the UI is great, it's simple and pretty easy to setup with the earbuds. However there's no settings to change certain preferences. For example when I have someone speak in a different language and when it speaks the translation into the earbud the first word is usually really quiet and it can be hard to hear depending on the ambiance. It is quiet because they have a fade in when the translator speaks. Hopefully it can be through a settings option in the near future. 2. The other let down which is kind of mentioned from other reviews is that if you want to have a 1 to 1 conversation the person that you want to speak with has to download the app. The problem that I have encountered is people scanning the code on an iOS from my Android and their app crashes.

They need to work hard to find out a way to only need one phone for translation. Most people don't like installing an app if they don't have to. My fiancee was excited to use them at her work (she has several Spanish speaking customers). Once I told her that they would also have to download the app, she was like "well that's stupid!" I agreed. You need to be able to just set them both up on one phone and hand someone and ear piece and start talking. When you have to tell someone... ok, download this app... ok now open you Bluetooth, ok now pair your Bluetooth to this ear piece, ok, now scan this barcode... all when you speak different languages.

I was never informed that I would need a second phone to have conversations. I was hopeing to be able to talk with my korean aunts and uncles that are all older and dont have smart phones.

Honestly great concept and I applaud the idea. Right now I know they are hopefully trying to upgrade languages because as far as the Spanish goes it doesn't translate hardly at all. My girlfriend and her family speak Spanish, while I speak english. Girlfriend and her sisters speak English while her mother speaks only Spanish (Mexico Spanish). My complaint is that the ear piece takes too long to translate and can't keep up with conversation, the person talking has to talk with a 1 second pause in between each word and talk very loudly(not many people speak that way). Also I hate the fact that both people have to download the app. Just make it on one app and make less distractions because from my understanding when I bought the ear piece was that this device was a hands free translating device so you didn't have to have a phone in your face. I HOPE WAVERLY LABS takes these comments into consideration.

Extremely disappointed in this product so far. Unless they change the app and hardware so that it can able to use just one phone this is wasted money.

Spent good money. Demo video he just hands the earpiece over. No second phone. No pairing. Revise app to control right and left. Right Lang 1 to Lang 2,. Left. Lang 2 to Lang 1. Or even set to just translate , I could wear this on my trip to Mexico and at least no what is being said around me

its the stupidest idea to have a second phone for the translation. If i go travel to other country, should i ask a person on the street install the app first as well? if so, please mention it beforehand.

This needs to work off of one cell phone. The cell phone who bought the pilot ear piece...anyone heard from Waverly Labs on them fixing this?

unacceptable that your conversation partner also needs to download an app.

Trash! They won't respond to an email request for a refund. We were backers and they Never advised that you needed two phones to make the ear buds work. A complete waste of money! I have sent several, several, emails and they only responded to the first one saying please confirm I would like to return. Nothing since. Again, complete trash of a company

Mic works random... but the app works well when the mic gets activated. lots of room for improvement yet a great voice recognition. Waiting it to speak German, Japanese, Russian, Chinese, surprised it supports Italian and French and not DE! Mic must pick sound until user chooses, autodetection end in the app speaking over the original voice while not picking up anymore sound. On premises version with no talk back required for many corporate environments. Privacy policy is a mess but basically recordings are saved shared etc Sadly for this superb project it seems google is giganting it's way in this market, but I wish this project to become awesome and profit from hardware sales or other decent system: this changes a lot

Good for what it is, I've tested it a little bit with English-Italian, and tried a few swear words, but there is a filter and it won't show or speak them, well most of them anyway, It gives you the first letter and stars every other letter out and only speaks that single letter. Now I know I'm being picky about this but it's like someone else commented, what use is it if you can't tell someone how you feel and vice versa? Even if you are just doing it for a laugh, swearing is part of Every countrys everyday life.

Guys ! You did not read the news ? They have here only Spanish, French, Italian and English, other languages still working on and come out later thats why you can't hear other languages.

Why is it when I am using English to Chinese translation, it only translates to text? My wife is Chinese and I would like to speak to her without her having to read what I am saying??

Needs a better way to easily copy and paste translations, but hands down better than Google translate for vocal recognition.
