Splatoons 2 has reinvented the image of a run shooter. It offers a Splatoon experience that you can't get from any other shooter. If you don't already know, in Splatoon 2, you play as an inkling shooters, a human star that can turn into a squid at any given time. Instead of shooting bullets, you weapons shoot ink. In order to run and reload, you must turn into a squid and swim in your own ink. Swimming in the ink also provides a second way to move around the Splatoons map.

Instead of having weapons to shoot as many players on the other team as possible, in Splatoons shooter, you're given an objective such as trying to ink as much of the map as possible or standing on a tower and moving it to the other team's spawn. Because of this, you don't necessarily need to be good at shooters to be able to support your team in Splatoon but good aim and movement to play a large role in each game. By hitting a player with enough ink, you will "splat" them and they will have to respawn. This gives your team time to advance whether it's spreading your turf or moving your tower.
In addition to the new aesthetic of Splatoon 2 (which looks A LOT nicer than Splatoons 1), the largest addition to Splatoon 2 was Salmon Run. It's incredibly fun. Joining up with friends and fighting off waves of salmon and bosses is very intense. The first half hour or so is pretty boring and very easy but as you progress, the difficulty increases. It gets very challenging very quickly and that makes it very fun. However, the greater the challenge, the greater the reward. This makes salmon run such a thrilling mode to play. you might have a heart attack fighting so many salmon.

The selection of Splatoons weapons is very large (over 60) and unique to other shooters. Instead of getting a run weapon, you'll be going to get weapons such as paint rollers, brushes, umbrellas, paintball guns, and plenty more. Though this may seem childish, the amount of strategy that goes into using these Splatoon weapons is probably greater than you'll expect. There are also plenty of sub-weapons and specials which take time to master.
