About Wirtland
Wirtland was founded on 2008 as a public initiative to be the world's first internet-based sovereign nation. Wirtland is an experiment into legitimacy and self-sustainability of a country without its own soil.
Wirtland aims to become economically self-sustaining. Wirtland builds communities, which will offer political and economic benefits, generate employment opportunities, provide new sources of artistic creativity and independent opinion-sharing. In 2009 Wirtland issued "Wirtland Crane", the world's first gold coin produced by internet-based country, followed by "Silver Crane".
Everyone over 18 years of age can apply for citizenship. A letter to web@wirtland.com with self-introduction is required to issue residence permit or identity card. Wirtland offers equal democratic rights and does not discriminate on the basis of national origin, age, religion, race, gender.
