أبو الوليد محمد بن أحمد بن محمد بن أحمد بن أحمد بن رشد (520 هـ- 595 هـ) يسميه الإفرنج Averroes واشتهر باسم ابن رشد الحفيد (مواليد 14 إبريل 1126م، قرطبة - توفي 10 ديسمبر 1198م، مراكش) هو فيلسوف و طبيب و فقيه و قاضي و فلكي و فيزيائي أندلسي. نشأ في أسرة من أكثر الأسر وجاهة في الأندلس والتي عرفت بالمذهب المالكي، حفظ موطأ مالك، وديوان المتمبي .
ودرس الفقه على المذهب المالكي والعقيدة على المذهب الأشعري. يعد ابن رشد من أهم فلاسفة الإسلام. دافع عن الفلسفة وصحح للعلماء وفلاسفة سابقين له كابن سينا والفارابي فهم بعض نظريات أفلاطون وأرسطو. قدمه ابن طفيل لأبي يعقوب خليفة الموحدين فعينه طبيباً له ثم قاضياً في قرطبة.. تولّى ابن رشد منصب القضاء في أشبيلية، وأقبل على تفسير آثار أرسطو، تلبية لرغبة الخليفة الموحدي أبي يعقوب يوسف، تعرض ابن رشد في آخر حياته لمحنة حيث اتهمه علماء الأندلس والمعارضون له بالكفر و الإلحاد ثم أبعده أبو يوسف يعقوب إلى مراكش وتوفي فيها (1198 م) Abu al-Walid Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Ahmad ibn Rushd (520 e 595 e) calls Franks Averroes was known as Ibn Rushd grandson (born April 14, 1126 m, Cordoba - died December 10, 1198 m, Marrakech) is a philosopher and a doctor and jurist and judge and astronomer and physicist Andalusian.
