NoTelURL Free App

About NoTelURL

This little App will help you to protect against the USSD vulnerability detected on many devices.

Just install it and if you reach a Website with malicious code inside there will be a popup asking you wich app to launch. Just select "use as standard" an choose NoTel:URL as app and you will be fine.

Starting with Version 1.1 of the App, malicious USSD Codes are shown within a popup Window. To gain best protection there is no way to execute USSD codes. If you klick on a valid phone number within a webpage or received by barcode you are able to execute the request if your Android OS Version is >= Ice Cream Sandwich.
Below this Version there is no way to directly rout the number to the dialer, so you need to do this manually by typing the number in the dialer.

There is no need to start the App manually. If you do so, there will be an explaining Popop now.
Everything will went automatically if the app is just installed.

Detailed Information can be found on my Website:

Here you will also find urls and barcode for testing

Unknowingly my phone was infected with the ussd vulnerability. Dialed a number one day and all of a sudden my screen froze and a pop up stated, 'ussd code running', thought fast and pulled the battery to stop all the numbers that were running their course inside the pop up, if those numbers reached the end of their cycle my phone would have forced itself to do a complete factory reset. What a pain that is. Did my research found,' NoTelURL' and installed. Now all is fine for over a year. Works as stated.

It works. It's sad, though, that the community has to fix things because Samsung (and others) are incompetent.

Seeing as I've waited four months for the home key fix I've probably got a year to wait until I get this update. But that's why I love android as the community is second to none. The app works and doesn't interfere with the phone. This should be on the homepage

Danke.

Kudos to Joerg for coming up with an App for a backdoor affected OEMs have yet to address. I first learned of the bug through AndroidPIT and thankfully Joerg being a member there pointed me to his fix. Good to see no permissions are needed and I have tested the app on the test website. I can browse with peace of mind once again.

it doesn't show which code has been blocked. it just tells you some malicious code has been detected. --- on my sony ericsson mini pro (android 4.0 by sony), this issue doesn't hurt me at all. sony wisely shows the phone app and waits for me to press the call button and shows which humber will be called. i

N wen an app requires no permission it is something cool!

But other apps (like NoUSSD) are better!

Considered that this started just a "quick & dirty" workaround it works as advertised. It's better than no protection at all - and it's now the manufacturers job to get their Android versions secured - at least by NOT automatically dialing a number, but displaying it and asking for confirmation, so we don't need such workarounds and can use the convenience to use tel:-URLs for real phone calls.
