About IceCream Sandwich-ICS Keyboard

===================================
Porting android 4.0 apps to work with older devices requires quite a bit of time and effort. Please be patient regarding bugs/issues. To support my development efforts on this keyboard, you can buy the ICS Keyboard Skin that I developed. Look under my app list or search for "ICS Keyboard Skin" on the market. Thank you!
===================================

ICS Keyboard - The keyboard from Android 4.0 IceCream Sandwich

This is the keyboard from Android 4.0 (codename ice cream sandwich). I back ported it to work with all android deivces 1.6 and up. Everything is working except Speech Recognition will require android 2.2 or higher.

This essentially the same IceCream Keyboard you will find in Android 4.0 but I made a few minor adjustments to it to make it work a little better. It's also a better version than some other similar IceCream Sandwich Keyboards you will find on the market, such as the port created by johntanmi or NICK ZHANG.

It's even better than the standard IceCream Sandwich keyboard:

- Compatible with most android devices

- Features that are incompatible with older phones were removed to make the keyboard faster

- Bigger Keys!

- Reduced app size by exporting non-English languages as separate downloads

- More user friendly

Enjoy!

The stock 4.0 keyboard is hands down the most accurate keyboard for Android phones. so when I got my HTC One X coming from the galaxy nexus, the sense keyboard was, IMO, the most unusable feature of the phone. it def has to go, no question about it. Went on the Play Store, and I was glad develipers had plenty of options. I tried 2 other ics keyboards before settling on this one. its free and doesn't charge you for all the extra features like themes and user dictionary. Nor does it have any adds.

Just switched from the Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket to Galaxy S4 and the one thing that was different and I did not like was the keyboard. The new operating system doesn't offer the "Android Keyboard" but this is a great substitute. It was easy to install, works just like the old keyboard, and works within all my apps. I'm in love! Thanks for this.

Its not a bad keyboard, it has potential but the keys are way too small. Also perhaps because of the key size autocorrection does not seem to work that good. could be the small keys or the correction (or one leading to the other) I actually have to disagree with the description and say JohnTanmi's version is better

Q70%
by Q####:

All this keyboard needs is an option to put the 4 arrows at the bottom of the screen like the EVO 4G has. Not necessarily because I use them but without them the keyboard is a whole row lower and a bit awkward to hold and type when in portrait. It feels off balance in my hands. Other than that this is absolutely perfect.

Best ported ICS keyboard I've used! If you're stuck with CM7 couple this keyboard with Mobint's Holo Launcher (actually ported from ICS) and Sonny Sekhon's Ice Cream Sandwich Theme (make sure you know which to choose - the HDPI or MDPI version) to get everything else ICS (i.e. status bar). You'll need to activate Sekhon's theme with the Theme Chooser app bundled with CM7. The ICS icons and wallpapers from kovdev's Ice Cream Sandwich theme can top it off!

I'm using this on my new phone I cannot believe this phone is running ice cream sandwich but yet it has a sense input keyboard and not the ice cream sandwich keyboard at all this thank you for posting this app in the android market.... I was looking for a minimal and well-calibrated Android keyboard as a recently-switched iPhone user (around 4 years) and at the point where I thought "OK, I guess I'll have to pay for a good keyboard" I tried ICS Keyboard. The result is amazing! I really don't see any reason to switch for a paid keyboard, it has everything I need, and it's quite minimal visually and in terms of configuration.

The ice cream keyboard is barely okay but only in portrait mode. It lags HORRIBLY in landscape mode and this causes a lot of typos to appear. It also has poor space bar response. Even with the vibration on, it won't always put a space when you tap on it. Try the vllp version of the jelly bean keyboard. It blows this away in response and accuracy.

I have been using this keyboard for literally years. This keyboard is the simplest and easiest to use. I've ran it on Samsung Captivate, S2, S3, S5, and now an LG V20. Why aren't default keyboards this easy to use anymore? I don't have emoji support but at least I have manageable backspace speeds and a quality auto correct.

Q70%
by Q####:

Please pit the comma key on the main keyboard. Long press on period key is frustrating. Otherwise great. Very responsive and good spell correction. One other suggestion: leave unrecognized words underlined and if possible implement touch-to-correct like native ICS keyboard. Thanks!

Using stock Samsung keyboard on the GS3 is oftentimes painful. The dictionary sucks, autocorrect is awful. Can't figure out how to add new words to dictionary. No easy access to the mic to use voice typing. Coming from the galaxy nexus I wanted to go back to the stock ICS keyboard and this is it plus a few additional custom options. Thank you developer for helping me keep my sanity. I was banging my head against the wall trying to write an actual email on the stock keyboard.

When I moved from iPhone to a SGS2 I couldn't believe how bad the input was on the default keyboards and was ready to take my android back. But then I tried a whole load of different keyboards most of which were also crap. This is the only one I found that matches the iPhone. Typing this in portrait with big thumbs and it only made 2 small mistakes.

Tried many keyboards on my tmo sgh-t989 and this one is by far my favorite and runs the best. Always feel like other keyboards keys stick a little and don't get the job done as well as this one. Great job!

The keyboard is wonderful but tends to glitch a bit. For example when you have your text open and lock you phone then open it back up the keyboard will not show up...idk I like it despite the glitches

It's easier to use than the gingerbread one and I don't make much mistakes here... Great job! i just wish you'd have a Filipino language for this one... :) Otherwise great job. ;)

This keyboard is definitely better than my stock keyboard, it has cool ics theme, and cool key tone, which my stock keyboard lacks of. However this keyboard does not have the 'shift enter' key when im typing sms. Im unable to form new sentences in my sms. Xperia Arc S, running on official ICS os (but does not have ics keyboard)

Q70%

One of the best keyboards out there. At least for me, I rarely make a mistake. And auto correction in great. More languages will be even better, like Romanian. Thank you for the great work!

Q70%
by Q####:

Don't bother downloading any other keyboard. Accurate, smooth and simple. A great port of the stock ICS keyboard. The option to use older skins (like froyo an gingerbread) is a perk as well. An easy fit for any launcher

Q70%
by Q####:

Pretty good overall, however the keyboard sometimes forgets to capitalize at the beginning of a sentence, and often doesn't capitalize the "i". The auto correct could also be slight improved. Keep up the good work!

Love it so much all the blue things suggest word auto correction but I'm Thai people and layout doesn't have Thai language can you add it? That's would be a lot of help. Thank you :)

If you were looking for that ice cream sandwich 4.0 experience this is it for you. Even though it does i still deleted it because it is not what my HTC Thunderbolt was given and from the look of things ice cream sandwich on my phone when it comes out will not look like that of the app.

Most functional keyboard I've used so far. No fancy stuff like skins but excellent predictions. Keys are v. small though & wish I could have enter key instead of smiley

U70%

Especially with getting the keyboard to work with so many platforms! It's got all the features of a good keyboard and it performs well on my xperia arc! Can only go better if more themes are added and by including sliding input as an option! Support this and give it good wraps!

Q70%
by Q####:

I downloaded it thinking that it was going to be better than my stock keyboard (2.2), but I find the keys too small and awkward. Also, I'm finding the predictive text to be the worst I have ever had! If you like it great, but it's definitely not for me.

Q70%
by Q####:

This keyboard is quite similar to the HTC keyboard, but I prefer it because of the much larger space bar. I got sick of hitting the period key instead of space. My only gripe is it doesn't auto capitalize the first letter in a text sometimes.

I've had this since my phone was version 2.3 and it was great since my phone upgraded to 4.0 I can't hear the keypress while I'm typing,I have checked the settings and I have it on sound but nothing..any suggestions? Or a fix? I like to have this bc i can change themes

This is a good ICS clone but it uses data as evidenced by usage on my HTC One X. Shame because this is a really good keyboard that works as advertised. Bad for those with data caps....

This is the only keyboard I use. Only bug is it sometimes goes completely black (not showing keys) and I have to minimise it and reopen by tapping on the text field. Other than that, flawless. Excellent auto correct too. HTC Sensation running official ICS

I've been using shapewriter for years now. I'm just bored with it think I'm gonna stick with this is seems faster anyways. Volume for keypress?

This was almost better than the Keyboard my MOTO RAZR MAXX came with. Still lacking IMO. Once you Realize you made a mistake. I should be able to click the mistake and options to pick the correct word should come up.. Will give it an easy 5 after next update.. overall. Very good..

Samsung keyboard is really laggy and has terrible auto correct. This hands down is the best free keyboard on the market.

G70%

Stable, intuitive, and excellent options and user interface. One problem: the all-caps function doesn't work, or does so sporadically.

T70%

I switch to ics from gingerbread due to the massive lag I experienced while typing more than a single line. At first I did not experience any lag with, ics but now I'm experiencing the same lag. I can type at least 2 sentences before the text appears on screen. This is really frustrating :( I'd switch back to the default keyboard if it wasn't terrible :/

You've continuously ignored all the bugs. Following my other issues (crashing when using V2T, making my screen flicker then crash, etc.) Its just horrid. It was good. But Idk. Ill find another.

Not better than Better Keyboard! Whereas Better KEYBOARD has MANY different styles/colors to choose from! Get creative, meanwhile I'll stick with better Keyboard

Y70%

I've tried heaps of other keyboards. Most other good ones decrease in accuracy over time or have bad auto correct. Ics keyboard however has been brilliant throughout. It works like a charm and is the best android keyboard IMHO.

Y70%

Thank you for releasing the best android keyboard out there! Even with big thumbs typing is a breeze and auto-correction is working better than on any other app so far. Well done, sir! Please, include an option to deactivate certain special characters. Writing in German e.a. I need the "ä" key but "à, à, â, ā, å, ã, æ" are not needed. A possibility to hide unwanted keys would make me one VERY happy camper - vastly improving usability IMHO. Crisp sound schemes would be the cherry on top of this app!

I really like the look of this keyboard and the spell correction is very accurate. However, it feels a little slow for fast typers... like myself. Running on Samsung Epic 4G Touch.

I type super fast. The pop up keys are laggy but the keyboard works great and keeps up perfect even though lags...
