bird alert PRO for Android
I am impressed with this app and the news one gets. Subscription is over priced for alerts, you do get an excellent app service though (if you can afford it). The customer care isn't as helpful though, and the information and service is the same as birdguides. The app itself is almost flawless as its easy to set up. The news filters took a while to appear which Id thought the app lacked, I wasn't given any help from the team about this before hand and they didnt give me accurate info either from day 1.
Regularly crashes when viewing gallery
Ok well.. I took the time to download the app and create an account and submit the report .. all on a mobile phone and my 1st report of a quite uncommon and attractive bird gets snubbed that its not interesting enough. It seems to me that people cant post about what they are interested in. A bird with only 6-800 breeding pairs isnt interesting enough. Uninstalling. Closing account.
Reading all the rants and moans on here is laughable. The best rant was the guy un installing because RBA wouldn't post a sighting of his favourite common bird. There's a clue in the name of this app which is great, I use it daily and have never had a single issue with it in 3 years. The news is generally out quicker than anyone else as well.
Used to find it working fine but last week tried it and notifications were all black so couldn't be read and details wouldn't load up even when mobile Internet was working fine. Emailed Rba to inform them of the problem and have received no reply a week later. Won't be using it again
Does not work 100% on new HTC phones
I just wanted some way of getting bird alerts. Turns out you have to create an account with more fields to fill in than a bank requires and then you only get a free trial. uninstalled.
Used it for years.
RBA
Thought I would get the same presentation as I do normally, but not.
Needs an update
Gave this three stars last year - see below. After a year with Birdguides I decided to give RBA another chance - BIG MISTAKE!!! Despite numerous emails and telephone conversations about the Apps shortcomings and suggestions for improvements and having been given promises of "updates in the pipeline" I find that 12 months on NOTHING HAS CHANGED. My comments below all still apply. So down to 1 star. Seems all they want is your money! I can only say that those who have given this App 4 and 5 stars must be easily pleased! --------------LAST YEARS REVIEW ------------- I have used the product for the last year, but have had issues that have caused me to switch to Birdguides - reasons as follows. 1- Slow to update - frequently hangs. Not much point being first with the news 94% of the time if it takes an hour or more to download to your phone! 2 - Fiddly interface - not really designed with the user in mind - e.g. doesn't use your GPS position to give you a "nearby" list. - main reason I switched. 3 - Didn't give me any reminder that my subscription was nearing it's end - just switched me off in the middle of a day out birding!

The technology has been there a while so suprised it's taken so long for a decent App system to become available to birders. Just really glad it's with RBA and not that other bunch. A little bit buggy at the moment but it is a very comprehensive App that is a delight to use. Well done RBA.
If you want to know where all the notable birds in the UK and Ireland are being reported, this is the app you need. The team behind this app are long established in getting reliable news to birders. Choose different levels of rarity to view (or all news), view the gallery of recently added images plus images of all species on the British List. With the right subscription you can set push notifications for the news you want. The sightings map is great to use - touch a pin and news from that site is displayed. The map can be used to highlight where different species are turning up or where the different types of rarity are. Lots of good information regarding previous sightings. I'll knock a star off as the user interface is a bit dull to look at colour wise, but overall this app is certainly worth having.
Very good app for all birders
Marvellous!
The best bird news service there is. DON'T EVER GO WITH THE DUDE GUIDES APP!!! I haven't found any faults with the RBA app and its worth every penny I think :)
Best UK birding and bird news app
Buggy, crashes too often to be reliable

Bird Alert Pro Marvellous!

For someone who cannot and does not twitch at a moment's notice any more, this is probably even more user friendly than the pager for me as each county and level of report is customisable so I'm only hearing about what I want rather than trawling thru Caspian Gull reports from the whole of the UK!
