Digital Compass for Android
It's a shame that samsung never had any native compass app as standard. This app is close to the accuracy. I cannot blame the app for lag as the interoperability of the app and phone sensors should be tested rigorously. I hope the app developers give more waight on testing it hard and making it accurate rather than releasing too many versions and non of them gives the perfection.
Much like iphone compass. My grandpa and I were outside with my science project and we needed his phone compass... Worked great! But when i had to leave I downloaded this compass app which looks and works like the iphone compass this is so great... Can't say the same for how my project is going tho, but the compass makes it a bit easier. Thank you!
So why does it work for some people and not others? Second compass app to be downloaded, both give different readings, if they didn't have a serious purpose it would be humerous. Align both apps with manual compass and there's a variance of 100 to 70 degrees, what use is that for a hill walker? Is the problem the magnetic fastenings of the phone case?
Took a while to get an accurate reading on my galaxy mini. After exploring the app and figuring out the magnetometer I got it to work. My sensor status readings were medium and good respectively so the app is only as good as the hardware allows it to be. I find that I get the most accurate reading holding the phone at chest height. The compass spins wildly out of control if I set my phone down on almost any surface. Again I blame the phones sensor capabilities more than the app.
...I'm wondering how they calibrate these compass apps. I've downloaded two and both are wrong and give different bearings sitting still in the same place so I know it's not my phone. Plus there IS NO CALIBRATION OPTION to select, rather it pops up at random, and has no effect.
Used this seriously for the first time and also used a Geocaching program with a compass on the same Samsung G5 phone. There was at least a 60 degree error in this app. The geocache program compass was correct as aligned with a physical compass in the other hand. There is no provision to align the app so as it stands, is totally useless to me.
Utterly USELESS. Had it a few days and tried, believe me I tried, to get this app to work. My Casio Pathfinder watch is pretty damned good and I have a regular compass too. The watch and compass are virtually identical in readings. This app however was never closer than 45° and regularly 80-90° out. Will uninstall as soon as I have finished this review.
Most reliable simple gadget. If you want NASA quality stuff, don't get this. If you want a knife to cut and a fork to bring food to your mouth, this is it. If these guys keep making a simple thing not better but with more 'WOW' moment improvements, they have a big one.
I like the layout and simplicity of this compass. I was having trouble with accuracy, and after reading several reviews I clearly wasn't the only one. Everytime I'd reopen it or return from the settings menu it would open back up with a wildly different direction identified as north. After a few times it showed an infinity looking symbol which I pressed, and that was for calibration. It works fine after calibrating. Samsung Galaxy S5.
Most compasses don't work very well when I try to use them. As a child my magnetic compasses never worked. They did for my brother but not me for some reason. I've had compass apps also and none of them worked well enough for me to feel like I could rely upon them. This one is different!! It works!!!!!
Make more good stuff to keep people from dying pointlessly yeah? Welp, that's all I got, not much but keep doing what makes you happy blah blah, importan, blah blah never work a day in your life, which is a paradox because if you're not working you're not living. Peace kiddo <3
I really liked this compass app -- it worked well and was easy to use. But, my virus check program, ESET, reported the program has some sort of malware attached and deleted it from my phone, so there it is! I wish now I hadn't paid for the "pro" version.
Pointed directly into the setting sun in the northern hemisphere and this compass reads due east. Need i say more? Last time i checked the sun sets in the west. Readings swing wildly at one point read north while facing south, north when facing west and also when facing east! Settings say the sensors are all 'good'. Installed a different compass app and the readings from that app are as close to perfect as you could expect.
Minimal adverts make this a nice free app to use which does what's necessary in a nice UI. The clickable location is a cool little feature, and while I don't understand it, it's interesting to see the magnetic strength indicated (I think that's what it is) Ads are a necessary evil for free apps but these don't intrude in the horrible way so many do. Some similar apps also have a spirit level and altitude indicator though I don't think it's necessary.
When I got got it I loved the idea that it gave you the street name you were on but when I trusted it it was inaccurate. After a few days of trying it still wasn't working properly. If you can fix that this app would be awesome!!!
North points all over the place. If you hold it about waist high pointing North it will slowly spin completely 360°. North points south east more often than north. It worked great for about 15 minutes one aftermoon while my son and I went hiking. But since then it has been disappointing. This app badly needs a calibration setting.
I have used this app for several years. Works fine. You do need to calibrate once in a while by holding the phone flat and moving it in a figure 8 pattern several times. It will read off a few degrees. In Utah that is about21 degrees.
I downloaded the app and it calculate where it is I then tossed it up in the air wildly held it level and it recalculate to the right spot. If I remember to update this post and if I actually care to find out what direction I am looking for. If it works when I need it. I will be thanking God.
I used it to orient my digital antenna. I was able to find online the exact direction the digital broadcast sites were from my property, then use the compass to align the antenna. The compass saved a whole lot of trial and error work on my part.
Accurate so far, no adds and no additional pop up's from what I can see because I just downloaded it! But I will let you know of any change.
I downloaded and tried six compass apps and of the three that actually displayed accurate readings this one is the best. It worked right away without requiring calibration and the ads are non intrusive. My thanks to the developer!
I like to hike in the mountains and just this week a storm came in and I had white out conditions. Pulled out phone , shot my azimuth. walked out. Would have gave it a five star but it has to be recalibrated often.
A great app! Very simple and accurate. It's spot on. If it becomes uncalibrated (sometimes by getting it too close to a magnetic force), the "infinity" or figure 8 symbol will appear To recalibrate, just hold your device in front of you while standing and rapidly make the infinity symbol in the air several times while holding your phone. This will recalibrate the mechanism on your phone to the compass. The app also has a level and a location feature that shows your exact position on Earth within a few feet ( or meters) using Google Maps. This is very similar to the iPhone compass. The adds are minimal at most and non intrusive. The Pro version eliminates the small add presence if it bothers you. All in all a very well made app that you can't beat for the price of free. I'm very satisfied with it and have cross checked it with several other compass and digital location devices and it's always spot on. Just remember to recalibrate when the infinity symbol appears. Congratulations and thank you to the creators of the compass app!
Tried it out on my last backpacking trip, compass just kept slowly rotating in a circle, unreliable to use. Good thing I had my actual compass with me.
Great app but the flashing ad at the bottom of the screen is a little distracting. That's the only reason I didn't give it a 5. That said, it well worth installing.
Great app. I have a pebble watch with another compass app. I usually think it's unreliable but this app, I usually trust. It's implementation and unique design makes the app look original and looks like the standard compass that came with the phone. Excellent app
Tells me I'm facing South when I am physically facing north, and other apps on my phone show north. App looks great, but doesn't work at all.
Sometimes Google maps gets confused when navigating by foot (in Japan). This app is definitive about directions, even showing magnetic field strength for confidence. Very reassuring.
i have compared accuracy with another app in same device, a gps watch and an analog compass. 5 degrees deviation happened. either other three are wrong, or this one. :)
Haven't used this app for a while, but it has lost its mojo or North. It knows where it is on a map but doesn't point in the right direction sadly
I go into woods to hunt for mushrooms and it is really easy to get turned around in a forest and get lost not with this it works great.
It works grate and I love how it tels me info about my tec and for the people that say it's not working it could easily be you have a hold device or the magnetic field strength is not good the app tels you that is y it is so good
Hopefully you never actually need a compass, because this app couldn't give a straight reading at all.
I like this Compass because it's very accurate when compared with my physical compas. Sometimes I don't have the other one with me and I just need to check a location and I can depend on this one's accuracy.
The compass often gives extremely incorrect indications of North. Have checked my hardware and it tests ok. Other applications are accurate.
I primarily use the digital compass when geocaching, but also when hunting and hiking. I always have my cell phone with me, so that's one less piece of equipment I have to carry. It's also handy when motoring at night, when the sun isn't available as a directional guide. It works very smoothly on my LG G4, although it's fairly jerky on my friend's LG G Stylo, and we haven't figured out why. Nice app!
Pros: clean UI; there is a pro (i.e. ad-free) version, Cons: has ads (but thankfully they seem to only be displayed when accessing the menus); the display could be bigger. I just changed my rating from five stars to one star because a flashing ad was displayed (under the menu). My evaluation of this app ends here ... there will be no pro version in my future. I can't tolerate flashing ads due to a seuzure condition,)

This app is great .very accurate and up-to-date. No need to calibrate it. Smooth graphics

I'm not usually into rating apps but this one deserves it. I used this app and a few others while on a walk with my kids that zig zaged through our town which was 2.5 miles give or take an few yards, I know this by preplaned route. This app I think was as accurate as my old compass and also has a built in map which is nice. I played around with a few other compass apps and this one is good I didn't have any bugs or issues otherwise, it has a nice feature of having a mapp accsessible in app. I'm not sure what the point of the magnetic field thing is used for. Over all it's a good app and I don't see anything to complain about, like I said appears to be good useful and accurate.
