Send Directions

Extremely easy to use tool for sending driving directions to your current location, or any other location you choose. Just launch the app and it locates you on the map and shows your current address. Or browse the map and and set the destination manually.

Send driving directions to your friends in just a few clicks. If the recipient has Send Directions installed, he/she can see both your and his/her own location on the same map. The recipient also sees the route to destination (by walking or driving) on the map and can quickly report back his/her own location. And don't worry, if the recipient does not have Send Directions, the link opens up in Google maps and he/she can still see the driving directions to your address.

Notes:

• Personal information stored in preferences (name, email address, phone number) are used only in making replying to your message faster and easier. They are not sent in clear text, not stored anywhere outside the application, not used for any kind of marketing purposes and not delivered to any third parties.

• Google terms of service do not allow real time navigation. That is why the route does not update automatically even if "Auto-update marker" is set.

Known issues:

• The application is sometimes unable to retrieve street addresses. In that case you don't see the street address above the marker and the address search does not work. This is because of the device's geocoder service, which does not always respond as it should. Rebooting the device seems to solve the problem in most of the cases, but not always. You can still center the map to your current location or browse other locations manually and share the address normally.

• With some programs (e.g. Facebook messenger and WhatsApp) you can share the address, but you cannot edit the message before sending it. In fact, you cannot even see the message, just blank message pop-up. Those programs have a non-standard implementation of ACTION_SEND intent. The message is there and it will get sent if you press send, but seeing or editing the message before sending… Nope.

• Sometimes the device's gps service returns the last location even if the gps service is disabled. In that case you may be shown some address that is not your current location. In that case you have to enable gps manually and then press my location button on top right corner of the map to get the marker to the current address.
