Note: Notification is mandatory for this app because without it Android will stop the service too often for too long. There's no use in auto brightness if it doesn't work half the time. So before you give a one star review, consider this fact and my assurance that I'm trying to find a more user-friendly way. I will no longer respond to "it has an ugly notification" type of ratings.

Velis auto brightness aims to provide the best possible brightness experience by using your devices sensors to determine the environment you're in. You have complete control over how much brightness will be applied for any given light condition, from selecting the sensors used to fully customizable brightness graph. This is a replacement for system provided auto-brightness functionality usually found in Settings / Display / Brightness

Features:

- Initial configuration wizard for an easy start
- User-selectable sensors: light, proximity, cameras
- Supports custom sensors on phones such as Sony Xperia, SGS 2
- Brightness presets for every taste and screen
- Profiles (save the brightness graph under your own name)
- Fully customizable brightness graph to fit your needs or cover your sensor’s faults
- Extensive sensitivity adjustments (light change threshold, smoothing times up / down, boost threshold)
- Superdimming to make those shades really dark
- Excluded apps (will disable Velis Auto Brightness when they are in use)
- Launcher widget with on/off button, profile select button and a brightness graph
- Tasker / Locale support for many sensor readings and app settings
- Convenient in-app store for premium content (some tasker and widget functionality) and developer support
- Custom app language
- Additional brightness when charging
- Only uses sensors when screen is on conserving battery

Tasker plug-in / Locale plug-in: Provides conditions for screen on, calculated light reading, proximity sensor reading, calculated brightness. Exposes many settings to locale / tasker for detailed adjustment from these managers. Some of this functionality is premium content available through in-app purchase.

Activating multiple auto-brightness applications will not produce expected results so make sure only Velis auto brightness is active while you test it. This file is provided AS IS - without any warranty. The autor will not be liable for any (un)imaginable inconveniences, including, but not limited to your phone frying or your screen starting to shoot launcher widgets at you. :)

the manual graph editor is ugly compared with the brilliant functionalities of your app.. anyway, great help! thx!

N70%
by N####:

Great first impression, but for me a brightness change when charging doesn't occur immediately on charger plug, but only after brightness update. I'll need some more time to test this app, but It seems to be better than Lux

N70%
by N####:

Excellent performance, tried all other apps this one is the best, just a minor bug - sometimes flash activates for front camera on samsung galaxy j5 2016.

N70%
by N####:

I used to love this app, but since I updated to Marshmallow, it doesn't seem to be working anymore... What to do?!

N70%
by N####:

On several phones this app caused media permissions on other apps to fail until I turned off permission for Velis to draw over other apps.

N70%
by N####:

I like this app....a small but very important improvement could be if, it could be integrated with local time zone for percent addition during daytime. I love the hard work you have done making this app so great.

A70%
by A####:

Have to turn off velis, to overcome the error overlay detected.

B70%
by B####:

And why does my screen darkens whenever I open a pdf file

X70%
by X####:

Stock android auto brightness sucks this solves my issue I thought my light sensor is broken

G70%
by G####:

Very pleased with its usage so far. Minor gripe is that the graph editing could be more friendly

N70%
by N####:

It just working for 1 day and after that the auto brightness is inaccurate and my screen brightness got freezed Please fix this and i will be rating 5 star and i will install this app again

V70%
by V####:

Absolutely the best auto brightness! I used to use Lux, but switched to Velis and I'm never looking back. Lux was killer on my phone's memory, Velis is much better, never spikes my phone's memory. There is also a limitation of Android when you're approving app permissions that you cannot have the auto brightness on (they call it a screen overlay). With Velis, there's a little button in the notification shade to quickly disable it. With Lux, that disable is hidden way in the advanced settings.

N70%
by N####:

Oneplus 3 has a terrible auto brightness setting, with the screen consistently too bright and irresponsive. Velis was a great free replacement. Settings and widget could be a bit more user friendly (especially the ambient to screen brightness curve editing), but awesome app overall. EDIT I spoke too soon... Every 2-3 days the app ceases to function, leaving me with a super bright or ultra dim display, and forcing me to reinstall. Rebooting doesn't solve. What a pity

U70%
by U####:

Nasty looking icon and old Android vibe interface. But the execution is nothing short than perfect. With the correct settings you'll have the absolute pin point amount of brightness at any given time. With a non linear variation! It simply works. Rare thing now a days.

N70%
by N####:

I have Samsung J7 which doesn't come with an ambient light sensor. This app is being very helpful by functioning with the use of secondary camera instead of the light sensor. Still I'm having difficulties in making fine adjustments in advanced settings, but I'm sure I will get used to it soon. It's free! Strongly recommend!

N70%
by N####:

One of the best - suggestion though. When I'm outside walking with my sunglasses on I have a difficult time reading with the brightness level. I'd rather not have it set to brighter all of the time because I want to conserve battery. If there was a way to enable a "sunglasses mode" when outside I'd appreciate it.

N70%
by N####:

Selected custom and worked for maybe a total of three minutes (if that) and then decided it knew better and auto adjusted it to what it wanted. If I wanted it to do that I would use the adjuster the tablet came with

W70%
by W####:

After the July, 2016 Marshmallow Update (on Galaxy S5) this app has to be turned off to make program changes. Now when you try to access app settings you get "Screen Overlay Detected" notice that doesn't work until you turn off Velis' Auto Brightness. I personally will go to the trouble of doing so, because I have not found a better alternative to this app.

N70%
by N####:

Works like it's supposed to with minimal battery loss and only small performance hits. Much better than the system auto adjust. I find it absolutely critical to my enjoyment and use my phone

X70%
by X####:

Velis autobrightness satisfies my long desire for the functionality...thus paid for it.. keep it up! As of updating to Android 7.0 app is misbehaving, but reinstalling the app resolves issue. Thanks..

Y70%
by Y####:

Since I got this HTC 10, auto brightness has never worked. So I used Lux for a long time. While it works, it would cause massive performance problems. I switched to Velis, and while it takes getting used to since it's different from Lux, it as easy to use. Additionally, there are 0 performance problems. It's snappy, intuitive, and doesn't bog down my phone.

G70%
by G####:

Nice features, and works well at low and medium light levels, but doesn't enable max brightness level this device is capable of - either manually or automatically.

N70%
by N####:

Excellent, no noticeable issues and incredibly customizable. However, really needs some tweaks to the manual editing screen. Too many decimal points to be sensible, suggest truncating, and being able to see the graph would be great. Separate fields or columns for the light level and brightness might be nice, so would a single 'delete point' button, perhaps in its own column.

N70%
by N####:

The best of its kind even though the interface is horrible. But the function is perfect. Just does its job. No annoying notification or need for constant setting changes. Edit: downgraded for in-app purchases; tasker integration is only an on-off switch and launcher widgets are nowhere to be found. Not cool. It's a small amount of money but it still leaves a bad feeling to not get what I paid for.

N70%
by N####:

Great app! Can do what the default system settings can't. Finally when I'm in a dark place, the phone is not as bright and when ths sun shines in the display, I can still easily read it. (the system feature works too, but just not in the sensitivity that Auto Brightness offers)

J70%
by J####:

BUUT,all it's goodness ends when my galaxy J7-16 slow,s down from time to time. It will be super app, when you will fix this problem.

P70%
by P####:

I've never liked auto brightness on my devices. I always hated the distraction. This app lets me set things exactly the way I want them and makes auto brightness a feature I actually love now!

N70%
by N####:

This app works really well. You can tweak the curve and even set the thresholds manually in a file. It's gotten to where every time I reboot the phone, I wait for Velis to kick in and adjust my brightness. It responds really fast to change in light conditions such as turning on and off a light switch so you're not stuck unable to read stuff after turning on a light or stepping into the sun.

A70%
by A####:

Almost perfect.. But can you make the Notification "dark" or black or some form of theme.. The white background is hideous.

Z70%
by Z####:

Any app that fixes what's wrong with the OS gets top marks from me. Only a small gripe, can you make your icon cleaner looking?

S70%
by S####:

this worked better than lux for me, and avoids overlay problems. I don't care about screen filters, just wanted better auto brightness

N70%
by N####:

It stops itself. It has to work all the time.

D70%
by D####:

Just a brightness changer. I tried many times to see if it automatically changes in different light. But hell no.

D70%
by D####:

my ph hav no auto brightness setting and this app help a lot. hav some error but i am satisfied coz its free ))

F70%
by F####:

Love it, but want to override the curve to be linear if I want ultimate control. Also I want the option to reduce brightness even more, with a screen filter. The lowest brightness is still too much at night

L70%
by L####:

Could use a little finer manual adjustment in Graph Mode & a color/warmth filter. Bonus for Tasker integration (paid version).

L70%
by L####:

So far seems a great app. It would be cool to have a option to display the LUX # as a Notification Bar Icon and if room maybe current Brightness # too ie 20lu/36% And yes I am aware it shows it in the Notification pull down - I would just like to see it all the time up top. Cant comment on battery hit if any yet (I am using front cam as light sensor) as its only first day for me.

N70%
by N####:

This is a great app and easy to set up. A request to Velis team : I use MI Redmi Prime. In which 0 Brightness is not low enough. So can you make some settings in this app that can further dim it down . I love your app anyways and will keep using it

V70%
by V####:

It didn't take my screen all the way to maximum or minimum brightness when appropriate. Uninstalled.

N70%
by N####:
