About SMS Reader
This is an application that reads text messages (SMS) out loud (and from some 3rd-party messaging apps)
You can activate reading of incoming messages and also read recent messages manually.
Optionally, you can let the application display an incoming SMS in a popup before choosing between reading or dismissing that message, without having to unlock your device.
You can even stop the reading by shaking the device.
It can be used for example while under the shower, while biking or running, even while driving to read your messages without reaching for your phone, which is safer (do not forget to stop the vehicle before answering).
Moreover, it can be useful for people with low-sight, blind and old people.
The service that reads incoming messages is compatible with applications such as Llama which allows activation or deactivation triggered by various events. Check help for more details.

The application requires the following authorizations:
- Receive and read SMS: required for the reading service.
- Read contacts: To identify the sender of the messages
- Bluetooth and audio settings: To stream audio through mono and stereo bluetooth devices
- Boot: To start automatically when the related option is checked
- Internet : For ads
Privacy:
The application uses the contact information exclusively to retrieve the name and picture associated with a phone number. There is no data sent on internet nor gathered in a file.
Notes:
- Some Bluetooth devices may not work correctly with the application, especially with Android 5 and later. If you encounter an issue, please send me an email with the reference of the Bluetooth device as well as the model and version of your mobile. Thanks.
- Huawei mobile owners: On some models there is the Huawei app manager", on which you need to add authorization for SMS Reader or it will not work correctly. Check your device documentation for how to do that.

Samsung users on Android 6 (S6, S7 for example) should avoid using Samsung's built-in TTS engine, because it is broken. Refer to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/26730082/illegalargumentexception-invalid-int-os-with-samsung-tts for more details.

This app is exactly what I was looking for. Only mild complaint I have is my bluetooth adapter goes into power save mode and this app doesn't wake it up when a text is received. Very useful app though to keep me from reading texts while on the road.

Doesn't suspend music for text? I want to give this 5 stars because it seems to be just what I want; an uncomplicated text reader that isn't bloated with other "improvements" that I don't want. However I noticed when listening to music, either with earphones or just through the phone speaker, that incoming texts are recited very low in the background while the music continues. The first time it happened, I thought the recording was flawed with a low conversation in the background. Every other app I've tried (my first was the best, Vlingo but it's no longer available) suspends the music, plays the text at full volume then resumes the music from where it was suspended. Does this app not do this? Am I missing a setup? I can't use it if It doesn't handle music properly. Edit in response to Vincent: I'm using the stock Android music player that came with my Galaxy S7.

This is my favorite app. It's wonderful for us lazy folks who don't want to pick up the phone to read the latest message.... I requested a "shake to stop" feature that silences the app if you move the phone in case you don't want the whole message out loud. Works wonderfully! Thank you thank you thank you!

Would give 4 starts but for some reason after the first day of using, my messages are coming in and being read but then they disappear and dont get stored in the sms reader app or in my regular messaging app. Could be a problem with my old phone it has been glitching in other ways. Other than that I love this app. Lots of settings!!

It's okay but sometimes I turns itself off even though in notifications it says it's on. I picked this one because the developer seems to respond to where others do not. I hope I get a response to this problem

Very light and easy to use! Only has a small ad displayed in the top center of your screen. Wish this app included option to only "enable when connected to a Bluetooth/headset device".

I get a close message several times a day and half of the time I use the widget it won't work. I have to open up the app to turn it off/on. When I click on the status bar notification it does nothing, it should at least open up the app. What's it for then? I really want to like this it just seems to have annoying bugs. And I would love the option to shake or something to silence a long text.

It took me a while to find a good free app that reads my text via Bluetooth. This one works better than expected :)

I've been looking for something like this for awhile now. Found one app that worked well but was quirky. This one is simple. Gets the job done. I'd suggest two things though: 1) Have it automatically mute when on the phone. I just got a long text while on the phone and it read it out loud right into my ear (and the other side could probably hear it!)! Lol! And 2) The ability to reply by voice would round it off quite well! It's a nice, clean interface though, which is gold to a user.

There is a problem with that otherwise good app, it does not support my car Bluetooth system. It won't take over the audio to play the SMS. If I use the Mono Bluetooth setting then it takes over permanently the Bluetooth audio but then I have no more radio... Any solution?
