In her untiring strive to sustain her esteemed position among universities across the globe, the University of Ilorin joined the race of higher institutions operating radio stations on Thursday 13th, August 2009 when it started transmission.
Officially commissioned on October 22, 2011, the station is imbued with state-of-the art equipment – transmitters, modern editing facilities, attractive studio, back up facilities and all that combined to make a wonderful campus radio that transmits round the clock all days of the week.
The station adopted the call-phrase "Better By Far" and it is located in the Faculty of Communication and Information Science Building of the Main Campus of the University of Ilorin.
UNILORIN 89.3FM is and remains the first radio to transmit 24 hours in Kwara State, and the first campus radio to transmit 24 hours in Nigeria.
The educative, informative and entertaining programmes on the radio have far reaching effects and influence on the lives of the over 30,000 population of the University staff and students and millions of our immediate neighbourhood.
It’s worth to mention the dedicated and hardworking workforce by members of staff and student volunteers of the Radio Station handling the digitalized equipment and paperless studios of the Radio Station with unceasing efforts to achieve the goal of attaining a Better By Far position in consonance with the University slogan.
On the whole, the radio staff in upholding standard community and academic broadcasting which makes the station live up to the expectation of the listening audience as well as the objectives of the establishment which is educational broadcast.
