Monospace - Writing and Notes for Android
Convenient and minimalist. I'm unsure if minimalism in presentation should entail minimalism in function, though: a few extra features, while small, could be crucial in increasing usability (eg, a dedicated or easily accessible undo function). Small touches like that which aid in the process of writing itself could really up Monospace from more than just a glorified, Drive-syncing notetaker and into something that's precisely between writing quick blurbs and longer walls of text, a niche that I think is nicely (but not yet perfectly) being carved out by apps like this.
Monospace is a good app for quick notetaking or short files. It definitely beats the average app looking to rip off Apple's notes app, and has some useful features for grouping files into folders and even text styling, which doesn't come standard with every texr editor. However, my main issues with it is that it becomes cumbersome to use over time - in that, when you click a file in your list of files, and then go back, it returns to the top of the list of files. Not so bad when you have only a few notes taken, but I've been using this app for over a year and it seriously hinders my use of it. I would also appreciate a feature to tag files without changing the "date modified" date - that may be technically impossible depending on how that feature is implemented, but if it is a possibility, it would be much appreciated. This app has worked well for me for over a year so I definitely recommend it.
But... I need folders. If Monospace had folders it would be perfect. EDIT: Nevermind, just found out hashtag grouping. It is in fact perfect.
Due to annoying file name detection errors, changes to file names on the desktop often causes duplications or deletions of files on the phone app. I've spent more time troubleshooting what happened to my files than I did using the app, and an email about the issue was ignored.
Bullet list behavior is retarded. The app keeps removing the bullet marks whenever I press enter to go to the next line.
Reminds me of my type writer! This is a sweet app. Perfect for writers who love to see the font which was highly popular!

Guys you nailed it......
Loved the simplicity.
Pro: This app is absolutely fantastic for note taking. I'm using it for keeping ideas, lists, and lyrics. The filing system using tags is both unique and useful. Con: I can't find anywhere in the settings to set up my drive to back up my notes, so I'll have to take a star off for that. If I check the 'Google Drive Sync' button, I can tell that the app is attempting to sync but it just keeps spinning on top of when I'm writing notes. That's pretty annoying. Suggestion: Also, I'd love the exact same interface in browser on pc. I'd pay $10 for that, no question.
Just installed this today and saw that it says it has "automatic syncing" with Google Drive when you get the pro version ($4). I assumed that the app would create a folder in Drive called "monospace writer" or something. So I decided to try the Pro version. After enabling Drive access, I created some notes, and then went to Drive to see what was there. I even gave it a while. But I was not able to find anything in Drive. I saw, while in a note, that I could share that note with Drive, but that would
I used to love this app. The workflow used to be perfect. I would write notes on my phone and they would backup straight in to dropbox. I could write a note on my computer in plain text and it would shoot straight in to my phone. It was beautiful and simple. They added drive sync and it hasn't worked for me since. Pretty lame for a paid app. It still works well if you don't want sync but that defeats half the purpose.
i absolutely love this app. not only used for notes, it's perfect for those random bursts of creativity when you have that idea for a bomb ass text/poem/story/whatever and have no paper around. plus, it looks super tumblr-esque. it's a must for me now
So far I am really loving this app, it has moved to become my go to note app. The only thing is, I am having problems syncing between my Huawei Nexus 6P and a Samsung Galaxy Tab A. I have pro, and I have done reinstalls on both devices. Upon the reinstall on the Galaxy Tab A, it prompted me to connect an email, not so on the Nexus 6P. How can I resolve this?
Love the simplicity but bugs exist. It has crashed sometimes on my phone and there is a big UI bug where if I pop up the keyboard after it has closed while editing a file, there is a huge blank space between the keyboard and the sentence being typed. So only 1 or 2 sentences are visible (the ones we are typing) at the top of the screen with a big gap on between. I am going to recommend it and consider purchasing the Pro version only after such issues have been dealt with.
...please add folder sorting! It's really annoying seeing my folders ordered like this: 2013, 2016, 2011 ; and this: 05, 08, 01, 06. As you can see there doesn't seem to be any discernible rhyme or reason to the current "sort" for folders!
A very buggy app. I pressed undo a few times and erased a 3,000+ word story. This should not happen. Text also doesn't retain its formating after the app is closed. I want to like it because it's precisely what I've been seeking, but it's too glitchy to be of any use.
I love this app. I store all my notes on it. Minimal. No distractions between you and being able to write. However, it doesn't work anymore. I don't know what happened, but it closes as soon as I open it. I'm on Nexus 6P. I would give 5 stars, but this problem means I can't even use it.
The format settings disappeared after I bought the full version. Other than that the app is fantastic, and the only improvement I could think of is to allow split screen support.
Whatever you do, do not try the undo function, it wipe the whole note!! Very unstable, listen to other people, DO NOT USE FOR CRUCIAL NOTES, AND BACKUP THE MONOSPACE FOLDER THIS IS ALPHA RELEASE... DANGEROUS BUGS LURK WITHIN, YOU WILL EVENTUALLY LOSE YOUR NOTES!!! CANNOT BE OVERSTATED.. USERS BEWARE
I absolutely love it. There are some problems with the encryption command, tho. When I try to encrypt a note that is also tagged to a folder, it loses the encryption and the password security. Any ideas on how to solve this? Also, why not simply add the option to encrypt an entire folder?
Clean interface, easy to use. Why do I hate it? I just spent an hour trying (and failing) to locate an exported file from monospace that I would have liked to use in another application. Likely I am some sort of idiot who just doesn't get file systems, or the intent of the Monospace creators, but I am unable to identify any place in the instructions or controls which allows a clue as to where to find my data outside of Monospace on my device. As such, Monospace is a beautiful work of art but useless as an ap for generating text that can be used anywhere but in Monospace, so far as I can tell.
Looks like one of the best of this type of distraction free writing apps with just the right mix of features but several times when I tried to use it the program deleted almost all of the text in the note/file then saved it as is so there was no means of getting back hours of work. It was just gone. Too bad because it has potential. Maybe using swiping to type is what triggered deleting and saving features but still unacceptable for real world use.
Still no support for underscores and asterisks. Another problem is that Dropbox occasionally glitches, restoring or deleting notes that should be deleted or present, respectively. 5 stars when this is fixed.
This is a great tool, so easy to use and no distracting features to get in the way. Plus it just looks lovely! I use mono in meetings and for making notes at conferences etc, easy to manage the content via the tagging mechanism.
I simply loved this app. Is easy to learn how to use it and I'm amazed by the simplicity. The pro version is expensive, this is a down factor. Keep it up.
Good simple note taking app, however the #encrypter hashtag function doesn't work because it is not truly encrypted.
I really like the material dark option. Most note programs don't have the design this one offers. Get Monospace!
Pressing undo after performing a formatting action (make bold, italicise, block quote etc.) clears the whole file! Was a pleasant experience until I discovered this and lost some writing. Clicking redo actually restores the text but unfortunately I exited too quickly.
I've accidentally set the share mode to Android beam and it won't let me change it back
The app is everything it intends to be, it is specially beautiful when using "True Black" on an OLED screen, it is just missing one thing... A widget, that would be the best addition.
I find it very easy to use. Somehow it's just easier to write, It is good-looking, and I use it more and more. Sometime Google Drive sync creates duplicates. Ask: when I use # the app creates a folder for the hashtag and files correctly, unless I use #encrypted too. Then everything goes into an encrypted folder. For instance I would like to be able to use #docs and #encrypted at end of a note and have it file in the docs folder, not all of them in the encrypted folder.
This app is truly the best writing app if you need something that is close to the paper feel. I liked its simplicity, the sober black and white design, and I particularly appreciated how it does not have extra options -which bothered me in other writing apps.
Switching the device orientation while editing a note will cause the loading wheel animation to appear in the middle of the screen and won't disappear unless you close and reopen the note.
I dont like a complicated writing apps. Sometimes i just want to write and just it. And monospace delivers what i want.

Like the app, but I use it mostly for sketching out programming ideas. It is a bit annoying when _code_ is converted to bold text. Also, I need longer lines sometimes, so being able to adjust the text size would be sweet!
