About Ultimate US Public Campgrounds

In this app you will find thousands of camping locations across the lower 48 United States, Alaska & Hawaii. The source of the data is the Ultimate Public Campground Project, acknowledged as the most comprehensive single source for public campground information. PLEASE NOTE THAT IT DOES *NOT* INCLUDE COMMERCIAL/PRIVATE CAMPGROUNDS.

➤ Locations shown range from full-service campgrounds to boondocking sites with no amenities to back-country hike-in and boat-in locations.

➤ Filters allow you to select which types of campgrounds you want to see displayed on the map, such as Tent, RV, Walk-in sites, Back-Country Hike-in and Shelter locations, Boat-In, Group. or parks with Cabins and/or Lodges. Additional filters let you see camping sites with only the amenities and/or activities in which you are interested. A set of elevation filters and region filters are also included.

➤ Included are campgrounds owned/operated by towns and cities, counties, states, and federal agencies including the National Park Service, Army Corps of Engineers, Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Fish & Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation, Department of Defense and Tennessee Valley Authority. Also included are locations operated by Native Americans, utility companies and non-profit organizations.

➤ This app does require internet access to work properly. The campground data is on your device as part of the app, but the map is loaded from the internet. When first opened, the app will be centered on your current location. From there you can scroll the map to view campgrounds in other areas or you can enter a city or latitude/longitude into the Search box and jump to that location. To get back to your current location, just tap the Locator icon.

➤ Campground icons are color-coded according to the "ownership" of that facility and also include an abbreviation, thus making it easy to pick out each type on the map. For example, Forest Service locations have a green icon with "FS" on it. Unique icons are also used to denote trail and river campsites, such as the Appalachian Trail and Idaho's Middle Fork Salmon River.

➤ Tapping on a campground icon will result in a pop-up balloon with all the info available for that location. You can tap on a Details button for even more information about the location, including links to its phone number, website, route planning to get you there, weather conditions and pictures of the campsite.

➤ You can also add a location to a Favorites list. The Favorites list organizes your saved locations by state and type. You can tap on a Favorite item and the app will jump you there on the map.

The data itself is updated every month with new locations and corrections and additions to existing locations. The Play Store will automatically update your app with the new data.

This app has been very dependable. We have used it on 2 separate cross country trips and have not been disappointed. For the most part, we only use public campgrounds. Love it.

Love this app. First time boondocking and the wife and I relied on this app exclusively and found 3 great sites in Mammoth. Saved ourselves 480 bucks on what would have been a very boring campground experience.

It is nice to have the NPS, USFS, BLM, city, county, state, and other institutions' sites all in one place at the same time. This is a great tool for those of us who like to pull out maps and drive. I found a recommendation for this app on the Northwest Overland forum.

This is an amazing app for anyone who enjoys back country. It's suitable for on the fly planning. I hope this product continues to develop. For instance, in many of the locations internet or cell signal is impossible. It would be nice to be able to cache those locations and map. I understand the sites are listed as waypoints. They used to be downloadable for import into another gps program be it Google, BackCountry, etc. I would happily pay extra to be able to have these waypoints usable in a more sophisticated gps system. That said, I've not found another app that compares with the number and quality of locations. It simply doesn't exist. I very much wish the ability to provide user notes attached to each campsite. For example, it really sucks to travel 30 miles in 4x4 low to suddenly encounter a forest service road closure. Likewise, some grazing lease holders sometimes place gates and locks. Those locks can be cut without problem. And frequently, even if we don't like it, arriving at a great location is often after the sun is down. Knowing if a site is poor for night arrivals is also useful. Same with the common trees across a road...would be nice to have carry a chainsaw notes. I use this app daily, and have for a couple of years now. I've stayed at over a hundred different sites identified by this app. Some of the best locations I've ever stayed at came via this app. Almost as many as I just happened upon myself while driving our FS and BLM land. I'd love a way to share these sites with a responsible community.

So far, so good. Planning a trip from Needles, CA to Portland, OR via NV and UT. Will you be adding an icon for Pet Friendly? Or is it safe to assume dogs are welcome if there is no notation.

Amazing resource as I plan another three month roadtrip in the States. The maps, the links, all works really well for me. The recent updates had a few problems but they fixed the issue within two days. Great customer service . Thanks.

Best app ever! It puts all the campgrounds in one place for you to find them easily. The map makes it great for traveling to areas you're not familiar with. The satellite image is great also I can't say enough about this app. It's the greatest thing I've ever found.

The only thing that loads is a map. No icons, no other info except what you see on Google maps. Refunded it, but would love it if it worked. Did everything like tips page said, location services working. Wish it would a worked!

My only criticism is that the app does not keep an offline copy of the map. For example, Google Maps will download sections of the map you are looking at, so you can still view it without a WiFi or data connection. As soon as this app loses a data connection it becomes useless, since the map won't load. I normally use the app when traveling in remote areas without LTE, therefore this app is of no help. Any way to fix that "feature"?

There is a free County Park campground in Iowa I stumbled across years ago and since then I have used that as a spot to look for in camping maps and apps. This is the first one that actually shows it. That shows me that these are the only people to go into that much detail! Well worth the money!
