Why does this app need so many permissions?
This app gives you feedback about your mood, as you report it, compared to the data that is captured from your phone (which is why we need those permissions). So, for example, you can see how you report feeling when you are more socially active, measured by number of phone calls and text messages, or when you have been physically active, measured by your accelerometer.
The app does not save/read your text messages or send us any audio recordings. Instead, it is just counting when you send a text, and (just before sending you a notification) it measures the volume of where you are: all we would receive is that you sent a message (we don't save any identifiable data) and that you were in a place with a particular volume. Unfortunately, on Android, it's an "all or nothing" scenario, where we cannot ask you to approve one permission at a time (or only those you want).
What about my privacy?
The data that this app collects about your mood and from your sensors is stored securely on a server at the University of Cambridge. It is only accessible to members of the research team, and only for the purposes of conducting research about how mood relates to your phone's sensor data. We will never publish your data; any scientific publications we submit will only contain aggregated statistics. If you have any concerns, please contact us.

Did not seem to agree with my input on several occasions. The bars for level of agreement jumped to a strong reaction immediately for the last few tests. I also think the personality quiz should be taken a few different times, as answers will be affected by current emotion. Questions were good for introspection, anyway.
Not much for user. We are just providing info. I am looking for something which helps in conveying my emotions to others.
First app I have used that has this grid format. I am bipolar, so it is perfect for recording my manic moods when my energy is high but my mood isn't positive. Also, it is very simple to use.
Working well so far, but I'd rather have the option to buy it to unlock everything......
One of the best apps to expose your habbits to you
I don't like the part were you have to wait a week to use the next feedback option, to be honest I'm going to use this app forever its very interesting :)
Upon initial sign in it has an error message that says "connection refused". Not sure what to do about it. Help, please.
No sync back to device, so when you change your phone you are ...
Can't register after installation. "errno 111 connection refused". Please fix it.
I get as far as trying to register then gives me a code and says connection refused?!

App does not work with me
I like it
I have used it for a year, and has given me good insight into my personality and things I should work on for a happier life. It gets annoying at times but mostly at the beginning with time it's okay.
Stopped working after 5 days on my HTC One when it updated to latest version. Please fix!
I didnt have any issues with battery life and the app works great. I love that i can help all the boffins at cambridge. Hopefully my 100s of data inputs help you out. Keep up the good work
I'd love to support you but I can't stay with a phone that last only 5-6 hours...
Battery issue seems to have gone away.
I really like this app mainly because I like the idea of contributing to their research. While sometimes it crashes on me, it's easy to open back up. I haven't had any other problems. Yeah, it does require a little more battery, but I am pretty conscious of saving my phone's battery power anyway so I don't really notice it. Can't wait to see what the research says!
Great app, great research goal and a positive experience that also prompts you to be aware of your mood yourself therfore promoting self awareness.
Has become unresponsive after update. Worked fine before update
I can't share photos with FB since I installed your app. Keen to support your research as I and relatives have suffered with depression and other mental illnesses but this block needs sorting. Thanks x
Improve first...
Positive psychology good tool to monitor your own progress and general wellbeing.
Too power hungry, ruins phone experience.
Nice idea.
...it eats my battery & it won't let me open up the other sensors even after 2 weeks of having the app. Shame - I like the app but I'm uninstalling it as even without using my phone, it's dying after 8 years!
Been looking for a good mood tracking app for years & impressed with this one. Esp the mood graph summary. Very helpful information for myself. Certainly has been heavy on the battery but i keep spares so no problem for me. Would be good idea to also monitor WhatsApp messaging rates as well as SMS.
If you can be a little introspective and have time to actually think about things, this is a good app (so far - had it a week). Nice piece of research and good use of the phone's technology. Stability of the app is variable. Started power hungry and caused resets. Currently can lock its buttons, but a fix is coming for that. So use with care, but if you want to help the research and even your own understanding of you and social media interactions - go ahead and see what you find.
It is good to know that Cambridge are studying emotions. It also helps people who have trouble socially, as it helps to track which conditions trigger certain emotions. I also think that the waiting to unlock new sensors is good, as it helps the users to keep the app for longer. However, I think that it would be better if the sensors were unlocked by lots of usage of the app. This would get people to use it more often and you would collect more info. Thanks!
The app keeps cycling through the consent pages. When I click 'I Agree', it just goes through them again. ... Maybe it's some experiment to see how long a person will go before giving up. If so, well done. Otherwise, this app needs some major work.
Hi. Sorry for the feedback but after accepting the terms the app don't do anything...it stays on the same menu all the times asking me to accept it
I like the concept, but now the app no longer sends me notifications asking how I'm feeling-I have to enter them manually, which removes the element of randomness from my data. I've tried editing the settings, but I can't get it to do notifications anymore and have no clue why!
I liked this app however I noticed it's been eating a lot of the battery.
The concept of this app, and the way it doesn't flood you with way too many questions at each occasion is great. It would have much more potential, however, if it permitted the user to attach a small microdiary entry with custom tags to each entry, as this would allow people to track *any* kind of habit as it relates to their moods, such as medication, physical or mindfulness exercises, and so forth.
I loved this app until the most recent update. Now it sometimes goes quiet for days at a time, and worse, I can't reach the main menu anymore. Whenever I try it redirects me to the rating screen
Was great. Then updated and no longer works!
So far, I've had a great time with the EmotionSense app. I was surprised that see that - overall - I'm a more positive person than I believed myself to be. And I got it confirmed that I'm not a morning person. Looking forward to unlock more sensors!
Translation to real world time/ interpretation seems pretty useless to me. I guess because I'm always pretty happy and positive, with several months of information it just shows I'm always happy and positive. I recommend this app if you consider yourself moody or sometimes depressed maybe it will help you understand when you are feeling that way and possibly why. But for happy people don't waste your time.

Stops working and loses data after a few days. Wasted a great deal of my time.
