Social Media Campaign

Hello, and welcome to Diego Granada’s and Alejandro Urdaneta’s Social Media Campaign. For out project, we decided to use our digital world to our advantage and create an app. The objective of our app (aptly called “Social Media Campaign”) is to inform the average person of what things they do that are harming the environment, and what they, as a normal person can do to help the environment. We wanted to focus on making our app as functional and minimalistic as possible, cutting out ALL of the unnecessary fluff that other campaigns have. We also focused less on what big corporations are doing because we felt that the average person won’t be able to have any effect on what a huge multinational corporation does. Instead, we focused on things that have a small short-term effect, but if done by a lot of people, for a long time could really improve the future of our planet. Small things like not showering too long, or using more public transportation, or using bio-degradable things are easy to do, but can have huge positive implications in the long run.

Our app also covers some of the things average people do that have a negative effect on the environment. This is important because a lot of people, even those who consider themselves environmentally minded will find themselves to be doing some of the things we mention unknowingly. For most people, knowing that SuperEvil Inc. cuts down 6000 trees a second won’t really affect their life, and there is nothing they can do about it. However, not knowing that sitting in the shower for 15 minutes can use 37.5 gallons of water is devastating when you realize that thousands or millions of people in a city are doing the same thing.

As you can see, we believe it is important for normal people to be able to make a difference, and being proactive, instead of simply feeling guilty over what corporations do but not actually doing anything, which we feel is a big problem in our society nowadays, something now known as "slacktivism". People feel and they get angry, but they never actually do anything. With our app we wanted to work against that common trend, hoping that whoever uses our app will change their life in some ways to save the environment.
