About WemoWay

Belkin(tm) WeMo devices are awesome but the app to manage them, is politically speaking, less than optimal...So we put some monkeys to work pounding on a keyboard and created an app that made management of local WeMo devices easier and prettier. A better way to manage WeMo apps..

We made A WeMoWay..A WeMoWay....In the jungle...oooooo

-- Features --

*New* Tasker Background Service

Version 2.0 brings a new background service to monitor the devices in without the application running. This should allow for Tasker Conditions to run smoothly.

-- Usage ---

Since we are using the WeMo SDK, the devices only work after they have been provisioned with the Belkin WeMo App. Belkin does some proprietary magic in the cloud but once the devices are setup in your home network, you are free to use the WeMoWay app.

The WeMoWay app only works when you are connected to the same wifi as your devices. That way no information is sent over the internet and all the connections are handled locally. Even if the internet goes down, your lights can stay lit.

Since this is the first release we are looking for lots of feedback. Let us know how it works and how you are using it. We are always improving the app and new features will be coming out often!

If you want to be part of the Beta Test community email android@2linessoftware.com and we will put you on the list.

-- What's Coming Up ---

Sept 20 Update

Android Wear Integration. Turn my lights on from my watch...(Still working on this)

NFC Writes/Reads. Tap your phone to turn on / off anything...(I'm not sure this is a priority for anyone but it can be implemented quickly)

Cloud Synchronization is off the planning because of potential security risks. You have to be connected to your local wifi network in order to use any of the features.

Permissions

The app uses a lot of permissions. Belkin WeMo SDK (http://developers.belkin.com/wemo/sdk) needs us to include all of them. To that end I have no idea what they are needed for, email belkin.wemo.sdk@belkin.com and ask.

Internet

-Our Monkeys collect crash statistics in the really, really unlikely situation that the app crashes. We send that to the internet so the Monkey Handlers can berate the Monkeys.

Photos/Media/Files

-Local storage is used to cache images and settings.

Wi-Fi connection information

When you switch between networks, we need to connect to the new WeMo devices. This permission lets us verify your wifi network

What are users saying about WemoWay

by C####:

Works, fairly stable, and integrates with tasker. Lost a star due to how slow it works with tasker, im not sure if its on my end, but theres about a 30 sec delay between tasker starting task, and the switch turning on or off.

B70%
by B####:

I have 5 wemo lights. All work with wemo app. This app says no devices found when on wifi.

I70%
by I####:

WARNING: APP HAS SEEMINGLY BEEN ABANDONED BY DEVELOPER! The worst battery hog I have ever seen. Regularly chews up 25%-40% of daily battery life. FIX YOUR APP!! Tasker background service is completely unreliable - turns itself off randomly. Way Too long between updates. Let us pay you $!!

A70%
by A####:

Works.. as long as you never leave your house.

C70%
by C####:

Your description sounds excellent, but your app can't see the devices on my network. They work fine in the Belkin wemo app.

K70%
by K####:

I really don't think Belkin should rely on third party developers to make their "stuff" work. This app fixes their laziness, thanks. I sometimes have trouble with scheduling and it would be great to have more than one on - off period. But it's saved me so much frustration. Thanks for your work.

K70%
by K####:

Much better than all other apps I tried and I tried most of them. It does 90% of what I need and is stable which is 100% improvement on belkins ridiculous offering. Developer is quick to respond and helpful too

I70%
by I####:

Previous version (w/o tasker) had better stability.

I70%
by I####:

This app fixed all my problems with the official wemo app in 30 seconds. Fantastic, thank you.

A70%
by A####:

Needs to refresh before sending tasker task. I have the wemo motion set to turn on lights via Tasker and it will not work unless this app is open. Also keeps sending the on command even when no motion is present.

K70%
by K####:

Used to work a while ago, now it's very glitchy and Tasker integration doesn't work as expected.

K70%
by K####:

None of the third party apps work, but that's not surprising given that Belkin's own software barely works anyway.

K70%
by K####:

This app sounds good but does it work with wemo led at all? Hoping to see any response thanks

K70%
by K####:

Does anyone know how wemoway can work faster from tasker?? Ive tries everything.

K70%
by K####:

Would like to see power consumption from insight switch though

K70%
by K####:

HUGE thanks to the dev for sharing this app with us!! In under 10 seconds my Wemo was working perfectly. Yay!

Z70%
by Z####:

App is great but unfortunately, Tasker integration is not working as it should. Events won't trigger the service, could you please look into that? Android Marshmallow preview 3. Update: developer fixed issue, tremendous support!

Z70%
by Z####:

Needs widget support still. Getting better, would like to see a way to rearrange the device list so that I can have the most frequently used devices at the top of the list. Suggestion to remove the toggle green icon on the white schedule bar or use it to show if schedule is on/off rather than the status and maybe change the orange background for status instead. A bit confusing at the moment with the layout when you first use it.

R70%
by R####:

UPDATE: Last app update fixed below stated issues. Now, I just wish that I would be able to set more then one scheduled timer within 24 hours time frame. ---- That is, if it does what it's supposed to do. I'm unable to turn scheduling switch on and scheduling settings do not retain new values. Apart of the on/off function the app is useless.

Z70%
by Z####:

Your description sounds excellent, but your app can't see the devices on my network. They work fine in the Belkin wemo app.

Z70%

As said in title, the problem get even worst. Device HTC m8, please fix it

Z70%
by Z####:

So much faster than the Belkin app, and nicely designed too. Please add Wear support!

Z70%
by Z####:

Can't get scheduler to work! Simple on/off seems to be OK, but can't get a schedule loaded. App says "Unfortunately, WemoWay has stopped."

Z70%
by Z####:

Looks nice but always gives me the "No Wemo Devices found error". I'm trying to connect WemoWay to some Wemo LED Bulbs but nothing appears (the official Wemo App works)..

Z70%
by Z####:

App works great with tasker except for one thing, the app doesn't auto refresh upon launch, making voice automation in tasker impossible when app is not currently running. Fix this and I'll give you 5 starts :)

W70%
by W####:

Needs either built in widgets, or the ability to make a toggle tasker widget instead of an on and an off widget.

Z70%
by Z####:

It can't find any devices on my network

W70%
by W####:

Can't really review well since the app can't find my wemo devices.

F70%

Easy to use, works out of the box! Edit: stops working after a few days... :( can't find any devices on network

Z70%
by Z####:

App fails to find all devices upon scan, uninstalled

Q70%

Crashes every time I click to set schedule

H70%

Thank you so much for the tasker plugin and it's also so much quicker to use than the official one. Edit: A week later, tasker commands stopped working and now getting high battery use without using it.

Z70%
by Z####:

I have used this app fairly extensively in conjunction with Tasker. The app works 100% of the time if you open the app and manually refresh the device list before sending the On/Off command. It's slow, but currently is the only working option I have. You can automate the refresh using Tasker and a shell input command. I look forward to future updates that refresh the device status automatically before sending commands!

Z70%
by Z####:

If this is what it was designed to do, then it worked great

T70%

HUGE thanks to the dev for sharing this app with us!! In under 10 seconds my Wemo was working perfectly. Yay!

T70%

Needs widget support and it will be prefect. Question about the schedule option in the app, are the schedules (rules) triggered by the app or set on the device? Like if I set a rule to turn on the light at x o'clock but the phone is off etc will the rule still trigger? Also when you try to set a schedule the app crashes

T70%
by T####:

I like it. It is simple and straightforward. Works better than the original Wemo app. Yes some advance features are missing but the fact that it has Tasker integration makes up for it. I think you should not add more features and overcomplicate it. Instead focus on stability and speed.

Tasker integration, material design, simple, easy to use, and free!

Would love to see integration with the smart LED bulbs
