Cute Styrofoam Handbag Memo Board

STYROFOAM Brand Foam
Block, 18" x 12" x 1"

Other Materials
Fabric of choice, 45" wide: hot pink, 1/2 yd.; limQuilt batting, 13" x 16"Heavy-duty iron-on adhesive, 1/4 yd.Pink ribbon: 1/4" wide satin, 2 yds.;7/8" wide grosgrain, 2-1/8 yds.Silver sequin braided trim, 1/2" x 3/4 yd.Rhinestone buttons: 3/4", one; 7/16", seven

Tools
Serrated knife
Candle stub or paraffin
Fine-line black permanent marker
Ruler
Toothpicks
Scissors
Pins: straight; sequin, 3/4", 18
Dressmaker's chalk
Iron and ironing board
Thick, white craft glue
Optional: Photocopier

Instructions

1. Wax serrated knife with candle stub or paraffin. Enlarge
pattern 200%. Cut one purse/flap shape from foam block.

2. Cut second purse/flap from quilt batting. Glue batting to
front of foam purse; let dry.

3. Trace two purse/flap shapes onto pink fabric; cut out,
adding 1/2" seam allowance. Center and glue fabric to front
and back of foam shape, pinning to secure. Clip corners; glue
seam allowance to edge of foam.

4. Using photo as guide, cut six lengths from 1/4"-wide
ribbon. Cut lengths 1" longer than needed to cross front of
purse as shown. Note: Pin each ribbon length in place before
cutting; do not glue. Glue 1/2" ribbon ends only to foam edge.

5. Dip sequin pins into glue and through ribbon ends into foam
to secure. Dip seven sequin pins into glue and push into purse
front where ribbons intersect. Note: Two ribbon ends just
below flap only need to extend 1/2" under flap.

6. Cut two 7" x 11" pieces from green fabric. Following
manufacturer's instructions, fuse pieces wrong sides together.
Cut one purse flap from fused fabric. Glue sides and bottom of
flap to purse front as shown, leaving top edge open
(cardholder). Glue sequin trim around flap edges.

7. Cut 12" length from grosgrain ribbon. Center and glue
ribbon length across top edge of purse, letting ends extend 2"
down each side. Beginning and ending at center bottom, glue
remaining grosgrain ribbon around foam edge, leaving excess
ribbon unglued across top of purse flap to form "handle" of
purse. Overlap and glue ends to secure; let dry.

8. Glue larger button to purse flap and smaller buttons over
sequin pins at front of purse.
