About Get Assistant - Root

Root access required, as always with this kind of stuff.

Want Google's new assistant app but don't want to dabble in the art of build.propness and possibly compromise your device's safety?

Well you're in the right place! Simply initiate the download, wait, install, open, allow permissions, tap the Get Assistant button, wait, PROFIT!

Okay, that's not too simple...how about this: Download, tap the button, get Google's new assistant!

We also save a backup of your model name on first startup so we can always revert back to normal Google Now on Tap, or Google Screen Search. In addition to that, it makes backup of build.prop in '/system/first-time-open-backup-build.prop.bac' in case of emergency restore.

Significant safety checks are now included in the app to alert you ahead of time if the app possibly doesn't support your device to avoid bootloops. Also includes emergency restore option in case you disregard safety check or any other issues.

Waning: Nexus devices running Nougat only. By downloading, you assume responsibility for all damages that may be caused by the use of this app. Root access required.

Permission breakdown:

Network access: This is needed for Firebase statistics and analytics. Simply reports how many users click certain buttons.
Storage: This is needed to copy the build.prop to the user's internal memory to perform modifications, which then gets sent back to the system partition.
Billing: I have a small donate button in the app overflow menu for those who want to support me.

What's Changed
Version 2.7 (1/18/17)
- The major security bug where the app opened directly without creating a backup is now completely fixed.
- Fixed bug where the what's new dialog didn't appear after updating. Just press the 'don't show again' button to hide it for that version. Unfortunately that's the only way to make sure the user reads it.

- You can now choose between the new, model-less, method, or the old legacy method!
- Cool what's new dialogs.

Really nice app! I chose the New Method because I had the newest Google app. After it changed the build.prop file, I went to check if I saw the text it would add, because it didn't work. I found this: ro.opa.eligible_device=truedebug.sf.hw=1 I don't know if it is supposed to be there, or is there something wrong? Please reply. Edit: Yesterday I installed Android Tweaker 2 and selected auto tweaker and then battery. Seems like the app did something to the text I already had (it worked before) in build.prop. I changed what possibly Android Tweaker 2 did to what your app was supposed to. And now it is working perfectly fine ???????? Keep up the good work!????????????????????‍????

This app worked perfectly on my rooted Galaxy S6 Running the latest Nougat S7 edge Rom. Thank you!! I waned to post this so u know, it is working obviously on a non Nexus device. And to the guy with the S3, Jesus! Talk about device support!!!!! That phone came out the same time my HTC Rezound did, and it's been dead! Awesome that you got Nougat on it!!

Hey there thanks for the app. I've loaded Google assistant on my lineage ROM. When I first attempted to run it the initial screen couldn't connect to the server so I downloaded and enabled the chop assistant. Enabled the service. Wasn't able to get ok Google on each screen. Since this I've removed chop service and ok Google works on every screen. Thanks.

I got tired of waiting for the official release. The app worked flawlessly and going through the process was a breeze. I also don't get the 'retrain voice model' pop-up, marvelous! Too bad it will be otiose in a matter of days/weeks. Nevertheless thanks a lot for the app!

I am using Lineage OS 14.1 Unofficial on my YU Yuphoria. Your app worked like a charm but the thing is that I am not getting that voice train pop up again and again like other users reporting. Well whatever the reason is I am happy with this app but I wish I could help other users in removing that pop up. May be I am just lucky I didn't even installed that Chop Assistant App.

I used the "New Method" as the app suggested it, followed all the instructions and after the device rebooted everything was working the way it should. How do I know that I have been successful? I'm on LineageOS 14.1 and I've set Home button long press action to "Search Assistant" but nothing happens when I long press the home button, only a slight vibration. Help? Update: Thanks to the devs for replying to my queries. Basically from what I understood, sometimes custom ROMs don't implement all the Google Now's features correctly and so you might not be able to get Google Assistant even if you are on 7.1.1 with updated GApps and all. Anyways, still giving it 5 stars as I really liked the idea/hack and the efforts put in by the team.

"Denied! It seems you have denied the root request... " App didnt ask for root permission! :( EDIT After much fiddling it now works. Had to update SuperSU after installing LinearOS; SuperSU somehow stopped working properly.

It worked, that's the bottom line. After trying to fiddle with the build.prop file manually and soft bricking my device I gave this a go and was successful. Nicely laid out app. Simple. Good explanations/instructions. This is on a nexus 6, android 7.1.1 running custom ROM Nitrogen OS

Great app Shane! I have just one niggle which is a constant irritant - I just cannot get my GA to unlock my phone using 'Ok Google' command! I've tried retraining it several times but to no effect. Was browsing through XDA and found this issue persistent with many other Nexus users who have used the build.prop method. While Pixel users dont seem to have such an issue. Please help! Note-Used Legacy method as suggested by app.

I installed it,but It didn't work. I am using official lineage os 14.1 on my YU Yureka . Cleared Google app data and rebooted the phone but didn't help at all. Edit 1: Thanks for replying so fast????. I am using Latest Beta version of Google app 6.16.31.21 . Language is set to English(US). And Yes I chose the New method as suggested. As I am using custom ROM, I had to install gapps package . I am using pico version of gapps package . So Google app was not included in that version. I had to install it from Play store. Let me know if there is any option to get the google assistant. Final edit : well the problem was I installed pico version of gapps. I INSTALLED mini version of gapps where Google app was preinstalled. So now I am using Google Assistant without any error. Not leaving any bad ratings. ????

Immediately after using this utility on my OnePlus 2, everything Google related crashes all the time. Even after restoring the build.prop backup, the Google App and my browser can't display anything without crashing. At first I thought this was an issue with Webview, but clearing the cache for everything Google related hasn't helped. I may have to reflash LineageOS. I'm not leaving a bad review though, because it was my fault for ignoring the warnings that stated it was for Nexus devices only.

This app wirked perfectly on my Samsung Galaxy s7 (sm-g930f). It is easy to use and in the only part which isn't automated, the app provides you very clear and easy to follow instructions for the 3 steps. I appreciate the clarity within the app and how it explains (in detail) what it is doing. I can not recommend it enough! APP DEV: Thanks for making this free to use. It was great to be able to install a free program and check that it worked rather than buying an app just to find out it wouldnt work. This app definitely deserves more support :) You have a donation from me :)

This app is great! At first it didn't work as when I held the home buttons, nothing happened, I googled it and you have to install the Google app as a system app. I used Link2SD to do that (super easy with it to convert to system app) and bam, after a restart, the assistant worked great. Maybe you should make a note in the "Didn't work" section and say you need to install the Google app as a system app (I recommend Link2SD it's super easy, just tap on the app, press the dots in the corner, tap convert and reboot your device.) I have a OnePlus one running CM 14 and I recommend it if your rooted. I have my new OnePlus 3 coming and will definitely be doing this to it as well.

I think this app is great for the people that have phones that don't allowed or have the capability of this feature however that doesn't mean that they have a bad phone it just means that it's not capable of doing what this feature does but having a way around it with an app is great and lovely thanks Google

Awesome sauce! Had a couple of minor issues. Installed on a rooted new Nexus 6 with 7.0.0. Properly installed and rebooted. Then My home screen icons and widgets were gone except the defauld Google icons. No biggie, easy to fix. Then the "Rotate the contents of the screen" was not working. Toggled it, rebooted, still no rotation only on the home screen. Worked in apps still. Long pressed on home screen and there was another setting for rotation that was set to off. Turned on, still didn't rotate. Started customizing and few minutes later it just started working. Thanks for this app! Donating. Wish I could donate more than 99 cents. Everyone should donate! The way to fix the voice train popup is to edit build propery like this: Change your build.prop line ro.opa.eligible_device=true back to false, reboot, train voice model in Google App, change build.prop line back to true and reboot again. Only works for Nexus
