Translator Heaven for Android
This app is designed to help Japanese learners easily look up words and expressions that are not commonly found in dictionaries, such as verb conjugations and grammar rules.
In order to make the app fast and lightweight, besides including grammar rules and verb conjugations, the app includes a slimmed-down dictionary with the most common words in the Japanese language. You don't need an internet connection to run the app, though you may need it to access the Tangorin full online dictionary and the Kanji radical search links.
I built this app to help me decipher Japanese texts at a reasonable speed as a fun (but serious) hobby; as such I update it frequently and it's ad-free. I am building the app's database myself since there is currently no learner-friendly repository for rules of the Japanese language.
Technical details:
You can search for words in English, Romaji, Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji and even mixed script.
The app includes five main functions:
DICT:
Look-up a grammar keyword, normal dictionary word, conjugated adjective or common expression in English, Romaji or Kanji, and see how it is used in example sentences. When looking-up a verb, you can click on the Conjugate link to see its many conjugations.
CONJ:
Look-up a Japanese verb in its conjugated form (in Romaji or Kanji). This is especially useful if you can't recognize the original verb or don't know the meaning of the conjugation. If you search for a conjugation shared by many verbs (such as "saseru"), the search results will be limited to the first 50 verbs.
TGN:
Search using the Tangorin full online dictionary, which also includes uncommon and obsolete words, and many more example sentences.
KAD:
Lookup unfamiliar Kanjis using the Kanji-A-Day radical search, one of the most user friendly Radical search tools out there.
Transliterator:
Convert a word from Romaji, Hiragana or Katakana to both of the other forms.
Additional functions:
- Press on X to clear the input.
- Press on H to view and select a word that was recently looked-up.
by Y####:
I managed to search one word but it keeps crashing. Uninstalled after the 3rd attempt and the 3rd crash, a grand total of 2 minutes on my phone.
