About Tower Guide

This is a follow up to the well received "Tower Guide" for Church Bellringers containing many of the updates and enhancements that YOU asked for, not to mention lingering bug fixes (all the Towers in North, South and West Yorkshire now display correctly!).

In this new version:-

Seamless integration with Google Maps, using GPS to open at your present location and displaying all local Towers.
Ability to use your devices navigation system for directions to your chosen tower.
ALL towers across the World are featured, as listed in Doves guide.
Ability to export and import your Tower records. Useful for backing up and keeping your records in sync when you get a new device

Ability to record your own notes on the Towers you visit. Date of visit, personal comments etc.

NOTE: This app requires Android 4.x or later to run.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: The Tower data used in this application is sourced, with permission, from Doves Guide, using data file from May 2013. Many thanks to Doves Guide for allowing us to use their data in the development of this app.

I agree with all the positive comments in other reviews. However, I have two things to query: 1) The 'about' section says this is V2 but the blurb says it's V3.08. I just reinstalled the software on that premise. 2) Am I missing something, but there doesn't seem to be a display of towers' postcodes to allow one to use a stand alone SATNAV.

No idea what this app is like because it has never opened successful. Crashes every time.

A really useful app - using it loads. Would be even better if the icons on the map changed colour once you have made a note that you've rung at them, so you can see by looking at the map which towers you have still to ring at.

I downloaded this app about a year ago and hated it. However, the creators have since changed almost everything and now I quite like it. It would be nicer to be able to have a list of towers rather than a map, and to switch between the two... Definitely a work in progress, and I like where it's heading.

Brilliant app for Bellringers! Just like carrying Doves and my Tower records in my pocket! A must for 'Tower Grabbers'.

It is great that you've included import in the latest version- thanks a lot! The interface is now very swish and works well. Opening to the map is a good feature for finding local towers, but perhaps ought not be the home page as it may gobble up data unintentionally. Unfortunately I will still need to invest time re-entering data given that your previous files are not compatible, but now that I know I won't lose the data all over again next time I get a new phone, I can justify this. However the one thing I will say about your new file is that it doesn't seem to allow one to save the fact that one has rung at a tower without adding a note, an odd restriction which is quite annoying if one just wants to quickly make a database of where one has rung. All in all- very improved and a really good app :-)

Was having trouble getting directions for anywhere, but seems to have magically fixed itself today, so who knows. Can't imagine doing without this to navigate to any tower, so much easier than using google.

The idea is great, but the implementation is poor. For example, if you knew the name of a church in London and did a search for it, you probably wouldn't find it. But, if you knew what street it was on, you could! So, to find st vedast, you have to search for foster lane.

This is brilliant. All it needs is contact numbers for tower captains, practice nights and it would be perfect. Can also recommend 'Methodology'.

Have I missed something or does the author of this app live on a different planet ? Where is the county of Bristol ? No Avon either (it doesn't exist any more of course, but not everyone has caught up wwith that, so it seemed worth a try).

I commend you on your initial app. A couple of items you may wish to think about. Like another reviewer, I was disappointed that having located a tower on the map, I couldn't navigate to it. Also, when adding a tower to the My Towers list, none of the detail appears in that list so if a further visit is made and a duplicate entry saved, you can't differentiate between them without going into each entry. Using a Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000.
