About TourTrustees: The Crane Estate
With this tour app, history comes alive at The Trustees’ Castle Hill on the Crane Estate, a stunning Massachusetts mansion and National Historic Landmark. Set against the sapphire backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean, and once home to the plumbing magnate Richard T. Crane, Jr., and his family, this over 2,100 acre estate was designed by a dream team of architects and garden designers including David Adler and the Olmsted Brothers.
This self-guided tour focuses on the gardens at this lush estate and the fascinating yet functional buildings that kept it going. As you walk the grounds, you’ll learn about the masterminds who designed the landscape of this incredible mansion on the hill. With this app, you’ll meet the people who lived and worked on the estate, through archival photos and first-person accounts. Learn from the experts as you hear what it took to maintain such extensive grounds, and who came to enjoy them over the years.
From the cupola to the Casino (meaning “little house”), the stories behind this estate will surprise and delight. Whether you’re a history buff or just a little bit curious about how the other half lived a century ago, it’s all part of the fun of this estate exploration app.
Explore the grounds at your own pace or follow one of our suggested tour routes: Where Nature Meets Culture or Work and Play. Or you can meet one of the five Crane family members who lived here on the estate.
This app works offline, so you’re free to explore even if you’re not connected to the internet. It also links to the many events, tours, and special events happening in real time at the estate. Get the inside scoop on the fabulous gardens and grounds of this estate, all in the palm of your hand.
