Total Boox for library patrons for Android
Haven't used in a few months but trying again. A lot of the well known popular books and authors aren't available. I feel like this is another outlet for Indy/lesser known authors to try to advertise their books. I can get a lot of those types of books for free at Amazon. Stop wasting our money and purchase better books on Overdrive.
The screen shots on the Play Store page show some sort of controls. Not on my android tablet. No "preferences", no way to adjust size, brightness, etc. This just looks like something from 10 years ago. And since my library requires it for their ebooks, I guess I'm stuck. Very disappointing.
When searching, hold the phone very steady - chsnging from portrait to landscape erases your results. The back button sends you all the way back to the opening screen, therefore never make a mistake. Be sure to click on "read" twice, so the app knows you're serious about wanting to read the book you requested. At least the text is readable.
Terrible app -- it's only available on your cell & it takes for EVER for books to load. I read my ebooks on my desktop, not a dinky little phone. Hope my library finds a better program soon.
Please update soon. Applications crashes everytime. Maybe make it accessible on computer as well as app.
Ridiculous! Why would I want to keep an ebook on "my device" indefinitely. My library claims to have spent almost a Million Dollars for access to this garbage. Where are Michael Connolly books for example? I tried this application several times over the last 3 years and see no improvement in the selection or the software. You're kidding; right? It's only available on my phone. Duh...how about Kindle, iPad etc. Slow loading. Yeah! I am looking at a blank yellow page for the last 10 minutes despite a very fast internet connection. The TotalBoox Version on Android Tablets is not too good for programming books. THe code windows seem to be all garbled. The end of lines dont seem to be respected. Can we we please fix that.
Updated review: It's okay but sooooo slow and it still has the look of something that was designed for iOS and then transposed to Android...which is probably why it is so slow. I do like the selection of O'Reilly books. I want to see more. I'd also like to see EPUB format so that I can read it with more portable readers that extend to my Chromebook or desktop systems.
Zero functionality. Ebooks are cumbersome but this ebook makes the experience painful beyond belief. I think the developers designed this app in order to ensure no one actually uses it.
It's good to have unlimited checkout and would be awesome to have a totally upgraded app with many features to go with it... Maybe model after "Google Books" Thanks.
I try to run and it crashes every time. Wasting my time.
Horrible app
Last year, I tried this app and found it totally unusable. I noticed now there was a new version, so figured I'd give it another shot, especially since our library system is buying way fewer books and pushing everyone to e-books. But although the app seemed to install fine, it just hung for a long time downloading the book I chose and wouldn't open a book it found I'd downloaded last year. However, finally the download completed, and after another long pause, I was able to begin reading the book. so big improvement over previous version, but still buggy. I see many others have had problems with this, but it seems by now they should be fixed.
If you are reading computer programming language books, please do NOT install the latest update. After installing latest update, all the coding examples in books were misaligned. They became cluttered together and lost structure. That makes python, C, C++... unreadable . I contacted the company. They replied quickly but they didn't seem to acknowledge this issue. I really like Total Boox concept and its collection; however, the latest update is a setback.
Hope they fix the loading of same ebooks after you scroll to the end. It seemed to loop itself. But it nice that you can keep it for as long as u want.
I haven't used this in months but when I say teens that is what genre I want NOT children's. When I tap see more I see the same books over and over. Waste of the library's money.
Left side of left page gets cut off after two page turns. Update:current version works perfectly on all devices including a 20 dollar tablet. Thanks!
Sure, you can download the app for free... That's where the free, that's stamped over all the place ends. At many Libraries, this company places an ad for Total Boox. However if you try to read a book it will charge you an insane amount of money. If you download the Library app, it won't work the books simply never load, you end up spending gigabytes of data and not a file is readable by the app and you constantly get advertisements. Making the incredible amount of data spent on advertising and none on reading. Oh, wow, see that response of complete denial, is why your app sucks.
It just kept saying "total boox has stopped" before I could log in.
Totally unusable unless you intend to read the book cover to cover, in sequence, in one sitting.
Hate it
Wow, this is a horrid reader app. Images are skewed and/or fragmented. Text has broken flow. Font size adjustment is two settings, neither ideal. I need to contact the San Jose Library and let them know this service sucks and not to spend our city's tax dollars on it. They also are an epic fail since they can't support kindle e-ink devices either, nor kobo or others...
No improvement! Loads with continuous wait indicator. Works the same. A very bad ereader that is decades old in tech.

The app is lame. The selection of books are either trash novels or cookbooks. Or books on cult religions.. Not what I'm interested in. My phone froze while I was trying to look for a specific book. And not one book I searched for was in the list of books. I'll stick with my kindle

I experienced the problem mentioned in other reviews where only the first page of each chapter was available. However, when I contacted the developer with the issue I received a prompt reply that the latest update resolved the issue. I'm happy to report that the new update did fix the problem for me (on a 2nd gen Nexus 7). I was very pleased with the user support provided.
The books that do load stay stuck on the first page. I was so looking forward to making use of this app. Some books don't open at all.
The app stopped working with Android version 4.2.2. Until this update, the app was great...now it does not work
Great idea but the app execution is awful. It looks like someone tried to take an iOS app and make it run Android without considering any of the style differences. Certain things flat out don't work, like trying to name a shelf. I also wish that this wasn't a separate reader but used the already well known EPUB or even AZW formats. Finally, it has a prompt to use Facebook id but none for Google? That's curious for an Android app. UPDATE: Now I have to remove another star because the latest update caused it not to work at all!!! I enter my library card info, click "Start Reading" and nothing happens. Time to uninstall...

This is pretty cool! I like the concept and accessibility. I love everything about it. However, I believe there's always room for improvement since I very much agree that UI/UX aspect of it is not up to par. Here's a list of room for improvements: -letting users select multiple books to drag and drop into their shelves -fonts and coloring for reading should be better -ui for bookmarking were not obvious -download should be faster -there should be a tutorial on how to download these books for users who aren't technologically savvy
