Feather - Music / Video Player for Android
I wanted an app that could play all my music files in a playlist so as not having to choose each one individually. Unfortunately this app plays all my 4.3 ratio videos in 16.9 and makes them look ridiculous. A very basic player and having to keep turning the phone into portrait mode to access the controls is absolutely ridiculous ... uninstalled.
PROS: Tiny, folder based, multi-format, simple, intuitive. CONS: No external subtitle support. Working perfectly on Pure Nexus 6.0.1 on bullhead and grouper but not flo, (bizarre!).
Didn't work for zero USB phone.
I was sick of the bloated media players for Android like MX Player and VLC so I snagged Feather up enthusiastically thinking I fully understood the concept of a file manager based media player. Wow was I wrong this app does not even identify itself to Android that it handles media files so if you want to open media from an external app forget about it you have to drudge thru your filesystem. Thank goodness for the two hour Google Play Refund Policy! On the plus side the interface is pretty.
Very good player

Finally, access to ext-sd
Okay, so this app doesn't look good, in fact it's downright ugly, and it has no equaliser, no album art, no lyrics downloads, no this that and the other. What it does have however is a stonkingly good folder based music and video player which has been able to handle every single thing that I have thrown at it. What it does have is absolutely minimal resource usage and a tiny, tiny installation footprint. It's absolutely brilliant. The only actual drawback is that it probably doesn't handle subtitle files, but hardsubs are no issue at all. So, if you value functionality over aesthetics, download this media player now, it costs pennies and it's worth every single one of them. It's replaced PowerAMP and MXPlayer on all my devices. Many thanks Aaron! My only criticism is that it shows hidden folders. It would be nice if we could switch these off.

Oh, if only. . . You can only access the controls in portrait mode. Simple enough for a phone or tablet, albeit a bit tedious. However, this means I have to rotate my CAR or AndroidTV to hit pause? My car doesn't have an autorotate mode, nor does my AndroidTV. A couple simple changes and this would be my goto player. I love the simple interface. Fits my old school personality well.
