Gus Learns Mandarin for Kids for Android
This is a great app. However, I noticed that the app doesn't save the levels that were recently completed.
Really enjoyed this but it needs more levels!
Loved it but now will not open.
I bought this app to help me learn Mandarin to help me prepare for our move to Taiwan. For those of you who are skeptical about how much a little app can actually teach you, you'll be pleasantly surprised when you try this one. Each level trains you by helping you associate the new words with interactive pictures in an immersion style teaching method. I love this because other languages I've tried to learn through English translation don't stick because I'm too busy translating in my head instead of learning the natural way like this app does. The level tests are great because it really puts your knowledge into practice by challenging your recognition speed through fun little games. All in all, I'm very happy with the content of this app and the way it has helped me learn basic survival vocabulary for things like transportation, food, clothing, and lots more. You can pick it up and play at any time whether you have 5 minutes or 30 minutes to kill.
I am a native Cantonese speaker and I bought this app for my three year old daughter so we could work on Mandarin. The pronunciation is on key and she is able to keep amused although we haven't been able to pass the second level, fruits and vegetables. The only things I would change on this is that on the trophy tests, I would have more of the vocabulary from previous tests to reinforce previous learning. Also, if there was some way to show the name of the item in universal English, that'd be great. This is a very good app to keep the children amused and I liked it enough to purchase the Spanish and the Hebrew version for our family. It's a great price. Also, I'm not certain if it's my app, but when I did complete the entire Spanish version, and I went back to play it, all of the levels were locked again.
Interesting apps. Refreshing way of teaching chinese. Hope there more of such apps

My 4 year old is really enjoying this app. We got it as were looking to encourage 2nd language acquisition. I enjoy the games too though Mr 4 learns much faster. I love that it's immersion and not translated as much easier for children and sticks well. Well worth the cost.
