Rocker Locker for Android
Google decided to make the volume buttons control the ring volume by default. This is so stupid. I don't know anyone who needs to adjust ring volume on the fly. This app allows you to control the media volume by default which is what people who don't want to accidently blast what they are listening to the world. However all it does is play white noise constantly which drains your battery. I had 50% power when I got home last night, this morning I woke up and the phone was dead. I am going to delete this.
This is exactly what I'm looking for. I never want to adjust my ringer volume on my phone. I've setup this app but it will only run for a few hours, then it gets shuffled into the background and no longer works.
Nice idea and it works, but the battery drain is huge. I was using it at my Galaxy Alpha for a week and I could not have more than 2 hours screen-on time when this app was running. When I disabled it, everything came back to normal, so I can have about 4 to 4.30 hours screen-on time again. I like this app and it is exactly what I need, but the battery consumption made me uninstall it. I hope the developer in the future to solve this problem.
When I first heard about this app I downloaded it and it worked just the way it was supposed to. But it uses way too much battery for such a small feature, which is a huge disadvantage. So sadly I think I have to uninstall it.
...it probably isn't. This app lets the volume rocker regulate media volume instead of ringer volume. How is this not the default is beyond me. However, the app achieves that by constantly playing an inaudible sound through your speakers, thus putting a toll on battery life.
This does exactly what it's supposed to but it was affecting my volume. if using the speaker, it would cause the volume to change slightly for no reason and the volume would jump when the screen is turned off
I wanted media volume. This app gives me back that option. I'll keep an eye on battery. Can't tell you how many calls missed calls and how many workers looked at me crazy when my phone just decided to scream out some song.
I just installed the app and it works great! Why in God's name would Android default the volume rocker to alarm volume control? Freaking clueless Idiots. At least give us the option to choose the default if you do ignorant things like that. Rocker Locker - Thank you for creating this app to fix Android's incompetence. I will edit this if I notice any battery drain issues.
As many have already mentioned, it is a significant battery drain. My battery use shows 283 mAh for screen, and over the same time 206 mAh for Rocker Locker. Second highest (by far) battery use. Crazy. Too bad, because I really dislike the default volume adjustment choice and the app gives me the media volume by default as designed. Just can't justify using as much power as the screen.
I was despairing that I'd have to root my phone to fix this "working as intended" issue that Samsung still hasn't addressed. This app took five seconds to install and correct a problem I've suffered under for years.
This should not consume battery my smart notification (lg g5) said this app consumed 4% battery per hour I think it's too much and I would like to report it for future fixes
Good app, it does exactly what I want but I have noticed it's one of the biggest drains on my battery. Also like a few others I have noticed the speaker hiss. If the battery and hissing could be fixed this would be a 5++ star app but until that's done I have removed it from my phone
Solved a HUGE annoyance on my tablet. I hated the volume rocker on my Nexus 9 adjusting the ringer volume when I never use it as a phone. Now my media device just adjusts media volume. All About Android let me know about this app. Thanks.
The battery drain issue is minimal on Nexus 5x (media server is 1% of a full drain). I don't hear any static either. I love what this app does. It pairs very well with ring scheduling apps.
This app was absolutely great, until I realized it was killing my battery. It kept my device awake 1hr over a 19hr span. For that amount of awake time I can click a down arrow. For some it may be worth the drain, for me is not.
Used to swear by this app. Suddenly with latest update it stopped working. Locks to the call volume now. Who cares about the call volume. Anyway I hope they fix it soon bc it was an essential
When this works, it's great, but too frequently my buttons revert to ringtone control even though the app says it is enabled. I disable and then re-enable it to set it back. Eventually it reverts.
This fixes the annoying default android behaviour where the ring volume is adjusted with the volume keys unless some media is playing. With this app installed, I can easily and conveniently turn down the media volume or mute it before posting some media. Mine times out of ten, this is the behaviour i want from my volume keys. Perfect.
I either want my ringtone full blast or silent. I have been annoyed lately that the rocker wouldn't lower my media volume. This fixed that immediately.
Seriously rocker locker is exactly what I was looking for. With the Nexus 6p the volume rocker is so light to press every time I put it in my pocket my phone volume changes to either obnoxiously loud or completely silent. I like to keep my phone alerts and rings to vibrate and this prevents my phone from changing my settings. The only volume I ever change is my media so this is a new permanent app on my phone. Found this by listening to all about Android on twit.
This problem was pissing me off for years. Thanks for making this little app. No more pulling my hair out.
The speaker hisses while the app is enabled. As much as the volume controls annoy me, battery life is just much more important. I can't use this app if it drains the battery like this. Shame.
It plays white noise or static in the background which is actually noticable. This causes a huge battery drain. It is a good app but try to fix this.
This is actually the best app on the Play Store. It fixes such a minor issue that gets do annoying. Any Android user needs to get this.
continually plays a quiet static in order to trick the phone into thinking it is playing media. Can't imagine this is good for the speaker/battery
Stupid that Google still has volume issues in 2016. This app disables the changing of your NOTIFICATION volume from the volume rocker buttons. When you use the rocker with this app installed it will change only the ringtone volume. Handy tool to have!
Every time I lock or restart my S6 I have to open the app to re-enable the volume function. Otherwise great concept. I just wish it worked at all times as it states.
I would lose battery life like a sieve. Tablet died overnight on the charger.
For some reason this app keeps the media server process active which consumes lots of battery.
The app does what it says. I like that. But what I noticed is that the speaker stays on all the time. I can hear a soft static that only stops when I force stop or disable the app. I guess this explains why my phone as well as other people's phones are getting hot and using lots of battery.
This app simplifies Android's volume controls. If you want to keep your ringer volume to be the same (or always on vibrate) this app is for you. It will keep you from accidentally changing the ringer volume when you just want change the regular volume. Don't worry though, if you need to change the ringer volume you can tap on the bell icon after pressing the volume button so that you can change the ringer volume easily when you need to. This app is super lightweight and worry free. Superb!
It still needs to be restarted every few minutes on the S6 even after updating to Android 6.0.1. It's really worse than useless because I never know whether or not it's still working until I try to change the volume.
Thank you so much for this!!! It has annoyed me ever since i got my phone! I found out about this on a thread online and am so glad i came across it!
Idk why android thought that with my earbuds plugged in, the volume rockers should be controlling my notifications volume. This app fixes it to make my volume rockers controll the media volume. Works on my 4.4.2 Kitkat Samsung Galaxy Tab 8" so I give 5 stars. :)
It so nice to find a utility asp that does what it says and doesn't require unnecessary permissions. Thank you for this. My volume buttons finally do what they used to before lollipop.
This app drains your battery like no one's business. Uninstalling. I'm sure there is a similar app that works better
Every time I lock or restart my S6 I have to open the app to re-enable the volume function. Otherwise great concept. I just wish it worked at all times as it states.
not so nice with apps (Phone and Hangouts) that use the proximity sensor to automatically change the audio output (when listening to voicemail, for example) to either the speaker or headset depending on whether you are holding your phone in your hand or up to your ear. Causes all audio to play through the speaker and won't allow it to change back to headset when you move the phone back up to your ear. Android 6 on Nexus 5X. Bummer because it's an awesome tweak otherwise.
App works great, it's how it works that's the problem. It continously plays white noise or static very low to trick the phone into thinking it's playing media thereby making sure the volume only controls media. This is a huge battery drain.

Android is driving me crazy with changing the ringtone volume by default! Why would anyone care about that?! At least have an option to change it in the settings (as in iOS)...but that's not the point here. The app does exactly what it's supposed to do and I really like that. Unfortunately it only works as long as the app is opened in the background. If you close it, you are back to normal. So overall a really great app, with a minor 'bug' if you want to call it that.
