What are users saying about TiVo Classic

by U####:

TiVo has no problem taking my money every year for the two HD boxes I have. They also have no problem removing support for them as well. First they took away online scheduling. Now their app no longer works. What's next? Coming to my house and taking the units away? I used to be a fan of the TiVo brand. Not so much any more.

M70%
by M####:

Total crap does not accurately describe the crappiness that is this app. It used to only suck, when it worked, however now when I try to use it I always get "the app has encountered a problem...". Thank you TiVo for continuing to not support your older products so you can try to strongarm us into buying your newer crappy products.

M70%
by M####:

The standard tivo app claims this is the new and improved version, and the only one that works with the newest tivo hardware... which is true... however it constantly crashes and fails to setup streaming every time I try. It's also insistent that I attempt to setup streaming every time I launch and I can't make it stop.

E70%
by E####:

As others have mentioned, Series 3 is not supported despite the Tivo website claiming "TiVo HD/Series 3 users: Find shows, schedule recordings, manage your TiVo box, and more using the free TiVo app." None of that works. It's bad enough that Tivo dropped access to Series 3 owners, but lying about it is despicable.

M70%
by M####:

Doesn't work. Had Tivo for about 15 years. I can use it as a remote control, but not much else. I wish I could use it to find programs and schedule season passes now that Tivo stopped supporting HD and series 3 for online pass manager. Still love my Tivos.

L70%
by L####:

TiVo is now a CRAP Product. We have the HDDVR w/Lifetime, and now we CANNOT any longer do the remote Online programming for Season Pass. There is NO technical reason for the TiVo policy of now eliminating that from the older DVR devices. This so-called App is ALSO USELESS for remote programming Season Pass for our TiVo!!! Screw You, TiVo. Sooner or later THIS household will be dumping the TiVo "box".

M70%
by M####:

A month or two ago this worked fine but now keeps telling me nothing matches my filter (which is blank). Guess everyone is right. TIVO is choosing to ignore older devices. Won't buy another TIVO!

N70%
by N####:

Bought lifetime service in 2007 for their flagship TiVo HD. Class action lawsuit anybody? 9 years later and features keep getting disabled. First online programming nixed. Now the app no longer works. No guide. Really, you incompetent boobs? You could have hired some preteens to maintain compatibility. Bottom line: TiVo sucks as a company. Avoid in future. Lifetime means eight or nine years.

Y70%
by Y####:

I used to be able to schedule shows using the app, but unfortunately that function no longer works. Useless at this point.

H70%
by H####:

Did Tivo even think some people don't like to spend $$$$$ to update to latest dvr and be milked? I needed this app for an older dvr. But you geniuses gutted it to be now useless. Leche kayo. Buwisit!

M70%
by M####:

Updated Jan17 (last review oct15) Status downgraded from "sucks" to "lying b@$t@rd$". Not only are they welching on their lifetime support for Series 3, but recent claims (by shills, no doubt) of the app being repaired are totally false. One might still log into their account and go through the motions of remotely scheduling an event to record, and being told that "an email confirmation has been sent", but neither ever happen. The box never receives anything and neither does the user. ***This.app.is.misrepresented***

M70%
by M####:

This new app sucks! Loved TiVo for tablets. No customer loyalty. Think I'll call customer service and complain.

C70%
by C####:

Yep, just as others have said, Series 3 no longer supported by the app or the website. Was also hoping Mike was right, but sadly no. Not sure how just his is working. TiVo, instead of pushing me to upgrade my perfectly fine device, you're pushing me to another company.

C70%
by C####:

Looks like tivo has decided that lifetime subscription only means "until we get tired of supporting it.". The DVR still works like a charm, it's just a shame tivo forces uninstalling the old app. Shame on you, tivo! At least let us continue to use the classic app, rather than forcefully uninstalling it!

C70%
by C####:

It looks like TiVo has given up on Series 2. I cannot even login on the app, even though I can login on the web site. I guess "LifeTime Service" means "The life time of when TiVo can make money on it." We know you could support it, we used to have a web interface after all, so why not support the older technology for those of use who purchased lifetime service on it.

G70%
by G####:

Might be time to explore a class action lawsuit with Tivo. There is z e r o reason I cannot schedule a recording online or through this app (which I was told would work). Paid for a "lifetime" membership for a series 3 and now they've stripped most of the functionality other than manual recordings and serving as a digital tuner. I will never buy a Tivo product again. This app is crap and they mislead me badly.

M70%
by M####:

I have a TiVo Series 3 HD still running fine with no hickups and Lifetime Service Agreement, but this app blocks many of the best functions (marked only for Roamio and newer boxes). I guess TiVo and I disagree on the definition of "Lifetime Service".

V70%
by V####:

I was directed by customer service to install this app because they no longer support Series 3 season pass manager on their website. Ok cool. Installed the app, it also does NOT support Series 3 season pass manager. Similar to the online offerings, anything below a Tivo Premiere is not supported. However, do not expect to pay less monthly service fee for less services. Your monthly fee is still the same. If it wasn't such a horrible experience to cancel TiVo, I would, but the idea of calling them and been harassed not to cancel is enough to keep me away. Time to start exploring that Comcast DVR option again.

C70%
by C####:

The previous tivo app that would allow me to schedule recordings suddenly tells me I have to upgrade to the 2.0 app and won't let me do anything. I installed the 2.0 app and it tells me I need roameo. I just want to schedule a recording and now I cant.

C70%
by C####:

I wanted to schedule a recording from the web. On my 5X I first tried to do it through the site and went on circles of redirects. Finally, it told me to install the app. After I did the new app said that my series 3 required the old app and took me to the Play Store where the page said it wasn't available on my Nexus 5X. The whole experience was bad and felt like Tivo was trying hard to force me into a DVR upgrade.

C70%
by C####:

Now tells me my TiVo is on another account. What the heck did you "fix"? It broke compatibility with my DVR.

C70%
by C####:

Many of the options - Info, My Shows, To Do List, and Season Pass Manager - are grayed out. So, I get Guide and remote control only. Update: I really wanted to believe Mike's comments, but still almost useless on my Series 3.

C70%
by C####:

Like others I had the same issue where the App wouldn't control my Series 3. Reading the Tivo User forum over the weekend, I found the CEO's email address and decided to send him my problem. This morning much to my surprise I actually had a call from someone at Tivo who was going to investigate the issue with me. Over the weekend I got a new phone and reloaded all my Apps, much to my surprise I found that the remote scheduling was now working. The person who called me from Tivo indicated to me a fix was put in place around 2 weeks ago. As a result of this weekend I can gladly say the repair works!. I'm now able to remote schedule from all my Android devices. Motorola Droid Bionic Android Version 4.1.2 Samsung Galaxy S5 Android Version 5.0 Asus Memo Pad 7 Android Version 5.0 (K01A) I suggest that you uninstall the app and reinstall with what's on Google Play and hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised as I was. Thanks to Tivo. A happy and loyal Tivo customer. Mike

Useless! If you have an older Tivo device. Even if you have paid up front for a Lifetime Subscription. The tivo website doesn't work if you have an older device (It redirects you to to use an older website which doesn't exist). This app used to support older Tivo devices but no longer. So, you have no way to use the tivo website or app to browse shows or to setup recording.

I bought it, you broke it, TiVo. Until recently, TiVo had a single app for all of its devices, then suddenly it shunted legacy boxes onto this new, slightly crippled TiVo Classic app. TiVo hardware updates haven't been compelling, so I have stuck with the HD. Meanwhile, phones have moved on, so I upgraded. The new one runs Marshmallow, and I am unable to download the app from the Play Store because it's "incompatible" with my new device. Behind the times yet again. That's just like TiVo, amirite? Adding insult to injury, TiVo's web interface no longer works with older boxes. Those users are directed to use the TiVo Classic app. A Catch-22 if there ever was one. The good news is that you can sideload the APK. I grabbed it from my old phone and transferred it to the new. Lo and behold, it works (as much as it ever did).

C70%
by C####:

I can view the programming info for my TiVo, but I always get an error when trying to schedule a show to record. Problem seemed to be resolved with previous app update, but has returned with latest update.

L70%
by L####:

I have a new Premier and kept my old Series2 (lifetime plan) - but now the App won't allow me to program it :-(

H70%
by H####:

I would give it 5 stars but on my LG g4 the app will not let me create a season pass only let's me record one day at a time

J70%
by J####:

No support for series 2, 3, etc., what's next, Tivo? How's that patent coming?

C70%
by C####:

I cannot watch even a 30 min show whenever I stream from my Roamio Plus to any of my mobile devices (S5,S6, S7, iPod 5, iPad Air, iPad Pro) but successful streaming with HBO Go which is how I know the problem is TiVo. Network cable from Roamio into router us how I connect.

C70%
by C####:

Basically let's me look at my Series 3's channel guide on my phone. That is all.

C70%
by C####:

Just tried for first time, and it let me add scheduled recordings to my home Series 3 HD tivo. I haven't seen the proof yet, but it did seem to work. Yes a new model tivo is needed for most other remote features.

C70%
by C####:

Changing my review because they gave me the option to record back. I am still a bit put off by this company now though

U70%
by U####:

The app no longer works for series 3 devices. No big deal, I'll just use the TiVo website to remotely schedule recordings. Oh wait.... the website doesn't work for series 3 users either. Not sure what the company motto is, but I'm starting to think it includes driving away your oldest customer base. The longer I search for a solution, the more angry customers I'm finding.

B70%
by B####:

Updated 7/21/2015: Could you at least make the older version available for people with Series 3? You have a lot of customers that won't be coming back. Why did you send me to an update and then say I need the old one? You folks must have too much time, to much coffee and a shrinking customer base.

U70%
by U####:

Can't operate my Series 3 from the app or the website? TiVo is by far the best DVR on the market, but that kind of dominance means they only have to be "just good enough." I was planning on cancelling my TV service soon; now I'm actually looking forward to it. Good riddance.

U70%
by U####:

Does not support Series 3 TiVo. The company dropped support online for their "lifetime" subscribers and now this doesn't work either. Making it even more painful, the site tells you to use this app and a non-existent old site to manage your shows.

U70%
by U####:

They removed the online management for Series 3 from their website and their mobile apps do not support the Dvr either. The only way to schedule a recording is to be directly in front of the device with a remote. Ridiculous.

U70%
by U####:

Another nail in the coffin of me continuing as a TiVo customer. I have been a customer since the very first TiVo. I've never been particularly happy about having to buy a guide after spending so much on hardware. TiVo has proved to be consumer unfriendly by not supporting working models, attempting to coerce us into buying newer models which require entirely new guide subscriptions. This is another one of those instances. Well no more, not from me. When this unit dies then I will be moving on to an HTPC and TiVo will have lost a customer who was with them from the start. Planned obsolescence and law suits are not the formula for a thriving business model. Top companies get there and stay there by making their customers happy, ESPECIALLY long time customers.

U70%
by U####:

This app used to work for series 3 tivos but now doesn't and has not for some time (months). Way to go tivo. Constantly striving to suck. If you think this will force customers to buy romio you should think again. I will never buy a tivo product again.
