International Gospel Helpers Church was founded in September of 1976 by the Rev. Mother Madeline Pugh. Also as Pastor and Founder of International Gospel Helpers Church, Mother Pugh was a pioneer in the village of Harlem New York. Once in 1963 as the Civil Rights Movement gained momentum Mother Pugh along with her husband Rev. Douglas Pugh established an organization entitled United Services for Equality and made arrangements with Amtrak to take thousands of people to March on Washington in support of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. For over 36 years the mission work included a plethora of outreach programs and services for seniors and youth. Not to ever be forgotten along with International Gospel Helpers Church is Star of Hope Mission which is also a non-profit of NYS and an extension of International Gospel Helpers Church which stands as a Pantry and Help Center in case of disastrous life events.
After the death of Mother Pugh’s husband in 1997, International Gospel Helpers Church became virtually omnipresent as it grew to global proportions from local, regional and international initiatives which today are still very much still active.
With the encouragement of the Harlem community, International Gospel Helpers Church was able to combat and wage war on the drug epidemic that took over abandoned lots, school playgrounds and community parks. Lots were turned into beautiful community gardens and school yards and parks were returned to our children.
In 2008 as Rev. Mother Pugh became ill she charged her God Daughter Glenda R. Phillips-Lee who had worked alongside her in the mission to take over the operation of International Gospel Helpers Church as her apprentice. In 2009 she knew that the illness was terminal and charged Apostle Glenda R. Phillips Lee as the Presiding Pastor and her successor.
Not only has Pastor Phillips Lee carried on the mission work as she promised but has planted new operations of ministry in the Caribbean’s, India and Africa. International Gospel Helpers Church in addition is an Education Center for the teachings of Original Substance of Divine Principles. International Gospel Helpers Church has a Purity Program, PYSO, which promotes not only purity but support in the establishment of strong families and communities.
International Gospel Helpers Church stands as Co-labors with God alongside the American Clergy Leadership Conference as their pastor is a protagonist in the Harlem community to develop spiritual, moral and unified leadership linked to Heaven Way as One Family under God.
