TWC WiFi Finder for Android
2 weeks after I got my new phone I started having WiFi issues. Ran it in safe mode for a day with no problem. Now back in regular mode this app constantly notifies me that I'm connected to Twc passpoint. Of course I am, I'm a Time Warner customer! Nothing but problems with Time Warner anymore! I'm removing this app today and hoping that I don't have to reset my phone.
I'd been wondering why the battery on my Note 4 dies so early in the day. Mystery Solved : "My TWC" and "TWC WiFi Finder" are soaking up 20% of battery power, more than any other 2 apps or services on my phone! They do this EVEN WHEN I DON'T USE THEM!!! I expect I'll remove them from my phone. I thought they were 'added value' of TWC, but instead they are TWC taking value from my phone.
This is a handy little app that has been very useful getting me onto hotspots. Although it has gotten better with each release, it still fails to log into some hot spots, and seems to cause my Android S5 to slow down and occasionally freeze as it negotiates connections. This may be a function of the Android OS, but it seems to be related to this app as well.
April 2016: This hasn't worked since I downloaded and registered. And this is the bettter improved Time Warner? Update May 2, 2017: Now that Spectrum has fumbled their management of TWC, how much worse could they app get? Well for starters my data usage has now skyrocketed because this ridiculous app isn't syncing properly. I think it's time to say goodbye and part ways with TWC/Spectrum.
My phone keeps indicating there's a hot spot even when I am already using Wi-Fi at home. It's very annoying and even when I'm away I cannot seem to sync into the signal.
Doesn't work. It requires you to have location services on, even if your phone recognizes TWC-WiFi within range. Even when location services are on, it does not recognize, match up, or connect you to TWC-WiFi, even when only 10 feet away from the source. I would not recommend to anyone for any reason.
Only slightly less painful than trying to connect without the app. In the end, the point is moot since the hotspots are crap. Spent 50% of my battery trying to connect the other day, only to keep disconnecting and reconnecting. In the end, it said I got 4.5MB of data for my trouble.
Not that great. Usually very Slow speeds. Sometimes shows as connected but doesn't do anything. ... have to disconnect wifi to browse. .. like now. Looking for feedback from the tech dept.. like they have for other reviews.
Since spectrum took over twc this app rarely works even with icons showing numerous Hotspot around . Tried logging out then back in with no better experience. It will work for a minute then stop. Spectrum took over twc with a motto of less service at the same cost.
I like the functionality, but it is shown as top battery usage even if I didn't open it once today. Hundreds of wake ups. Android battery reputation is really killed by those kind of irresponsible apps.
On my Nexus 6, this app causes my auto brightness to spike about 40% of the time when I unlock it. I have isolated it to this app by going one by one. This continues to be a problem even after a year.
I tried it and it seemed to find the networks, but they weren't close enough to connect to or they would be close enough to allow me to try to connect, but by the time I would come close to connecting the network was out of range, even though I was stationary. I just got frustrated and uninstalled. Less than 2 days. Nexus 5 X on Project Fi network. Yes I know Project Fi auto connects to WiFi when available, but I was interested in the app for finding Time Warner Networks.
The WiFi finder is great except. Before I installed Wi-Fi finder all three of the available TWC Wi-Fi login worked on my phone. Now my phone won't work in the community unless I turn off the Wi-Fi and use my service providers 4 LTE.
I got Spectrum with a high hope of using their WiFi anywhere. However, it worked for 3 hours, and then that was it. For the last 3 weeks I have never been able to connect to twc WiFi or twc wifi-passpoint.. They only say "saved", but they won't connect. I have tryed in many locations and almost everyday, but no luck. It's just another BS company offering something they can't give. And their upload sped is only 10Mbps not 30Mbps. Lies, all lies..
I'm not even connected to TW WiFi today and this app used 34% of my battery power. Time Warner, fix your f****** application. I'm using the Samsung S6 and Android 6.01
This app is always unavailable. It show you Wi-Fi in your area but you can only connect to unsecured Wi-Fi. My phone already have this feature to show me available Wi-Fi no need to download an app that is taking up space. I thought it would allow me to connect to TWC hotspot but it doesn't.
I have a Nexus 6P. Fi does a better job of locating hotspots. TWC, sell this to businesses by showing how they will be pinpointed on the map. Even small businesses will profit. Update 2+ months later: haven't been able to connect to the hotspots. The signal is so weak connection must continually be reconnected. You reply to other ratings "we'll troubleshoot it personally." That's a lot of tech time. Fix it.
It could be very useful but unfortunately it kills your battery. The "Auto-Connect" option really doesn't matter if it's on or not it still connects you automatically. When you're finally connected, you're much better off disconnecting your wifi because it's either extremely slow or won't let you browse at all. Judging by old similar comments on here, looks like the app was never intended to properly work or it would have been fixed by now
Alot of the place I feel they should have a hotspot do not. Thinking like chain restaurant. Not sure if the request for the hotspots are being checked on.
App updates wipe out user name and passwords. When I need the app I have to find login credentials. Should remember them. Damn frustrating.
I have not been able to connect to any hot spot it has posted... Oh and you cannot find a hotspot if you aren't connected, I don't need a hotspot if I am connected....
I would like to keep this app on my phone, but when it drains upwards of 20% of my battery when running in the background, I can't justify keeping it installed. It didn't use to be this bad. Whatever recent update caused this battery drain issue needs serious investigation by the app's engineers.
I'm grandfathered into the Verizon unlimited data but it helps if cell signal isn't the best which isn't very often since Verizon is everywhere.. so yeah comment cancelled itself out but still great app..
This app is great for finding and connecting to TWC hotspots, but it will reduce your battery's life around 5 - 10%, even when not connecting to a hotspot.
I noticed some of the hot-spots have poorer connection compared to when I first started to use it the service. The app won't let me connect without turning on auto connect. A pop up will come up suggesting to turn it on, if you don't you won't be able to get online.
Very useful app & saves me from going over on my data plan. BUT phone notifies me app is lagging for 55 mins & results in battery drain. Have to charge constantly or get caught with dead phone. Constantly auto-searching. Wish their was an option to only manually search when I requested it to run. TWC quickly replied to Fb post that it's always running. I had same issue over year ago & thought I'd try again. Going to have to uninstall again. Shame. Note 5 Verizon
It works, connecting me randomly, but it's not user friendly. Sometimes I can see that a wifi is available, but it won't connect
Force to use an app that I don't want. App shows connected, but no service. What's the point?
No additional hotspots have been added to my area since Charter merger announcement despite the "request hotspot" feature. Coincidence?
Been with time Warner/specturm for two years. Got then cause they were cheap. But now prices have tripled cause of all these features they "offer". Yet when you use these features they mess up or don't work at all. Like this app. It says I'm at the hotspot. But I can't connect to it at all. Why bother offering anything if you can't deliver. Been paying for 60mbps internet but only get 40mbps or less. I call and all I get is oh here is all the reasons it isn't working. Funny. Never had these issues when you were time Warner. But now that you are spectrum. All anyone has is issues
I can't even connect to the Wi-Fi at Time Warner Cable. I mean I'm sitting right in the office and the people that work here don't even know the password. well i finally got the right password. Im only complaining because it says free wifi and i tried my own username and password and it didn't work. and nobody working there knew how to connect until my last visit. time warner cable office should be a hotspot, right?
I really don't understand the purpose of this app. It doesn't automatically sign me in if in range or seem to be able to connect me; and it throws off my home wifi.
I would give it a 4 but I can't even open it.... Can't use/rate it properly if I can't even OPEN IT.... Will change it when I can actually open it!!
There's just no excuse for a background app to use this much power, or this much data for that matter. I'm banishing it from my phone.
Even though it says I'm connected to a hot spot I still can't get Internet and can't report the hot spot trouble through the app. I guess I'll have to call them to report it.
Hard to use, weak connections. If I move from satellite to satellite, I have to sign in again. Need this for travel but it pains me that I'm not getting what I paid for. (App may be free, but the service certainly is not)
Prior to us having TWC we had Verizon now frontier. While they did have a great speed when FiOS was working the available public hot spots/WiFi were almost to zero compared to TWC. Even though Verizon was a huge company it didn't serve us well even after the frontier fiasco. We are still upset from the lack of service and loss of purchased movies bought during our long term service as customers. At least TWC has a very good public WiFi coverage.
While driving around town I have constant notifications blaring at me every time I drive by a bus stop. How do I shut them off. Annoying!
Used to love it. It does not love my Nexus 6P. Crashes pretty much immediately. Hung on inputting my credentials. Locks up frequently. Build N4F26T

nice data saver when traveling around town. like how it alerts me when I'm close to a hotspot. unsure if there is an auto connect feature.. but I have one on my actual phone, so it does it anyway. also love the "average data savings" feature, pretty cool! ...i believe you need to have a time warner internet account established and pay monthly to connect to passpoints..
