TV Front for Android
Supports MythTV backend 0.26 + 0.27
Does not support commercial skipping.
Does not support Bluray Folder structure playback.
Does not support DVD VIDEOTS folder structure playback or iso playback.
Does not support adding / modifying recording schedules
Playback is limited to what your device supports.
Playback features only, no LiveTV yet.
No live tv, only some recordings are deletable, crashes a lot (I've owned it less than an hour), and doesn't support skipping commercials in flagged recordings. UPNP/DLNA apps do most of what this app does for free without the crashes. Don't waste your money. I'm only giving it 1 star because I can't figure out a way to give it zero stars. Saying nothing about using MythTV's commercial flagging in the app description (what you do) is different than explicitly saying that you don't support it (which you claim to do). All my other frontends can delete any recording. I'm running: mythtv-backend 2:0.26.1+fixes.20140322.1a4cebf-0ubuntu0mythbuntu2 i386 And TV Front is on an Asus Cube The crashes were "force quit" when the dialog popped up saying TV Front had stopped responding. A couple of times I waited a few minutes to see if it would recover, but it never did. That happened twice in the dialog entering the IP address of the Mythtv backend, and several times navigating the recording listings.
We use it, but mostly still use the mythtv frontend. When the app supports live TV, I could see us not using the frontend at all. I'm using it on a LG g3 TV. Watching recordings works well. It would also be nice if they could organize recordings by date. So we could see the most recent recordings at the top.
Installed on my Sony NSZ-GS7, put in my myth server's IP address, and was watching recordings a moment later. I was surprised I did not need to make any changes to my server. The app does occasionally crash while browsing through the TV Show listings. It is a consistent crash. Repeating the same navigation sequence will cause the crash to occur again. Features I miss from the mythfrontend: - Skipping commercials. Stuck skipping 30 seconds at a time. My understanding is that the developer has submitted a patch to mythtv so commercial information will be available to the app in .27. Here's hoping. - Fast playback. I like to watch some shows at 1.3x speed. I would anticipate that a custom media player would need to be written from the ground up to support this with proper audio downshifting, so I'm not holding my breath. - A view of all my recordings in chronological order. AFAICT, the app always displays show titles in alphabetical order and you have to click on a title to see the episodes. I do like the mythfrontend default of a list of all recordings in reverse chronological order. Yes, I have a few complaints, but I do like the app and give it 4 stars.
Installed this and like how it works. Unfortunately, I am using it on a Vizio Co-star and all my OTA recordings use ac-3 for audio compression - which the Co-star doesn't support. So until it does (if ever) I'll need to do some transcoding.
I am absolutely pleased I am with this app. Can't wait for the full feature set to become a reality. It is in my opinion, one of the most attractive MythTV apps I have seen and, for what it does, IT WORKS. We don't use a PC based MythTV Frontend at all and rely on Mythweb for management / scheduling etc.
Installed this, since the official android frontend is not compatible with the Vizio Co-star. This app does what i need it to do, playback recording, and play some of my saved videos. Very nice UI. Some of my movies are showing up as TV shows, i'm not sure how it categorizing my files. Definitely recommend this app for anyone who is looking to use their Google TV as a front end.
Love that there's someone working on a GoogleTV MythTV frontend, now. I've got it installed on 3 devices, and all are decently successful. I am getting some force closes, though. More than happy to provide debugging info if developers are interested, as well as to contribute $$ to help the project along.
Since Primetime doesn't work in Canada this is an excellent alternative! PLease add voice search and the ability to make video playlists!
